Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Boring Football

Recommended Posts

I hate to say it, but watching Melbourne play is boring. Not just because the team is losing, but the way they are playing. I understand that the defensive mentality of the team may not have been great in the past, but there is almost no attacking mentality at all now.

No wonder membership hasn't grown from last season, the club and players need to give supporters a reason to come to the footy, other than the fact that they are Melbourne supporters. Where's the entertainment in watching a team do the same thing (hug the boundary line, play for a throw in) over and over? We too often rely on a piece of individual brilliance from a player like Clark just to get within scoring range.

Melbourne has one of the smallest supporter bases and struggles to get kids to follow the team. Why would anyone want to watch what Melbourne has served up this year?

We can deal with losing (most of us are accustomed to it by now), but I am really struggling to deal with the boring.

Maybe go watch Casey instead Clint (if you aren't already of course). At least they have a crack for four quarters and an attacking side to their game style.

Give Couch some support. Couldn't be any worse than some of the plodders we got upstairs atm.

The only chance we'll have of beating a Hawks team in the foreseeable future today too.

Well Casey do have Jurrah, Watts, Cook and Green in the forward line - most of us would have expected that to be the Dees forward line by now

It was amazing to see how strong and quick the hawks players were compared to ours. Really was boys against men.

Most of our so-called seasoned players (eg Moloney, Sylvia, Bate) look really slow and struggle to get the pill and the rest just get bounced off the likes of Lewis, Mitchell, Sewell, Birchall.

It's sad that it takes new guys such as Clark and Magner to illustrate to most of the rest that they lack effort and hardness.

Thought Fitz showed a few good signs. Why was he brought in only to be subbed off?

You said it Clint. I'm an eternal pessimist in most facets of my life but have spent the last 20 years watching Melbourne games irrespective of how poorly we were doing, but recently something really seems to be missing. Aside from the occasional Howe screamer or Tapscott bump there isn't much to enjoy about watching Melbourne play. I honestly hate most sports but have always found football to be visceral and truly majestic on an aesthetic level, but Melbourne this year are un watchable I really don't think I can put myself through it much longer.

Silly thread. Of course it's boring. It's boring because we suck at it and we can't do it properly with any sort of consistency. But we're showing little moments where it works. When it works, and we are on song, we won't be boring.

The first quarter last night was not boring.

I just can't understand how we can get murdered in the possession count to such extents. (424-259) What ever happened to Moloney, Trengove, McKenzie and others getting 20 something possessions every game. Out of our midfield only Jones seems to be firing in comparison with last year (and on a side note Magner is doing pretty well too)

Generally speaking the first instinct of our players over the past 6 weeks has been to tackle and defend. On a number of occasions last night players stood back and waited to respond to the plays Hawthorn initiated. And this is really boring footy.

Our initiative is mostly non-existent.

Our creativity is mostly non-existent.

Our forward spread is embarassing.

Sylvia, Petterd, Bate, Fitzpatrick out.

Those four in.

Howe, Watts, Cook

Green, Clark, Jurrah

Surely this is the better option? We don't have a decent small on the list.

Dare I mention Alwyn Davey is coming out of contract at the end of the year. Averaging 2.5 goals a game this year and 3-4 tackles a game. Might be a bit old for our "plans" though.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
