AFL Employee leaked info about indigenous players

The source was a player from within our club. The problem came from within our club & it just so happened that there was no confidentiality between Mifsud & that player as Mifsud then went & blabbed to Grant Thomas.

Given the comment alleges racism from a Club official, what the hell is Mifsud blabbing to the media about?? Who knows its an actual problem and actually true???

Of course it should have been confidential and properly addressed behind closed doors with the Club, the player and the AFL.

Mifsud claiming his source lied! Name the source then resign - who cares if it's not accepted.

Mifsud has exercised appalling judgement that has humilated and defamed a senior MFC official and breach his confidence of the player who told (regardless of whether its correct or not). He must have had a Ricky Nixon moment if he believed it was appropriate to pass information like that to the media. Its an absolute stinker. This bloke Mifsud is a snake

Hang on a minute. It is quite possible that the 'rat' told him something which was misinterpreted. For example, maybe Neeld spoke to all the indigenous guys about Jurrah's situation, possibly at their request, and Mifsud misunderstood and 'leaked' what he did. At this stage, who knows, so please let's all calm down.

Very sensible Sue. There have been too many posts that rival Mifsud's lack of judgement. A few need to chill and put down the torches.

Worse is that we likely have a player or players, very likely one or more of the indigenous boys, who is (are) prepared to falsely slur the club because of some perceived gripe. After ALL Jimmy Stynes, Schwab and the rest of them have done for him (them).

Treason of the highest order. Find out who it or they were and chuck 'em out of the club now.

Do you have any evidence this is the case?

If not (and I have no doubt you have absolutely none), why slur our own players especially the indigenous players?

My question is: why the hell has Grant Thomas been involved in this rumour-mongering?

OK speculation/conspiracy time;

Thomas knew that Rendell was unfairly maligned and sacked based on some allegations by Mifsud which were not entirely true.

He knows that this guy is spreading further untrue or not quite true rumours and decides to go and put them into print to bring the issue to a head and somewhat vindicate Rendell. He kills two birds with one stone by being able to have a crack at Neeld who for whatever reason he seems to have an issue with as shown in the rest of his column. Neeld and MFC are a particularly easy target after the weekend so he picks his target and lets loose.

EDIT: on further reading it seems Thomas and Mifsud have a relationship going back to St. Kilda days (along with Rendell) so it looks like Thomas really is just an idiot.

3aw are suggestion it is an ex player who is no longer at the club

" which Mifsud then relayed to Thomas - with whom he worked at St Kilda as an assistant coach - in what he thought was a private conversation about the recent Matt Rendell case."

Not only was he leaking info about Neeld at this meeting, he was STILL leaking about the Rendell case

I don't see how any Club official could work openly and confidentially with this guy in the future

And Vlad knocks back his resignation

That right blame some one who is no longer there. So where did this ex get his info if not lying?

Believe what you want to believe on this one Robbie. There was no 'evidence' about Scully leaving either.

Channell ten reporting that the the source was a senior indigenous player at melbourne . The whole thing is another distraction we dont need . Our bloody season is off the rails all ready .

LOL how many senior indigenous players do we have? Pretty short list.

Robbie don't get me started on this why single anybody or race out they are all MFC footballers no matter colour or creed, singling people out or treating races or cultures differently is in fact racism.

Everything Neeld has done since he walked through the door and the way he has gone about everything has impressed me no end. It will take time but he is exactly what we need. Time for everyone at the club from players to footy department & supporters get behind this guy.

Furthermore in regard to the untruths spoken of Neeldy by Mifsud & Thomas take it all the way & if there is a rat at the club banishing them to Casey is not enough ban them from the club all together. Having said that it is a big IF as I would not put it beyond the realms of Mifsud twisiting what was originally said to him!

I can't believe the number of people who think the worst at a drop of a hat. The above is an example - why assume the ex got true info? Is there any evidence it was true? No. Even Mifsud says he was lied to by his source. Good grief!

If the player being blamed is not guilty i would expect the club to come out and say so.

No i believe that if you have no facts you dont have the right to slur someones reputation.

This is the problem when you have an AFL indigenous office or whatever he is called. They look for something to do to keep them in a job. And pretty soon it gets murky.

Reminds me of the climate change 'scientists' like Tim Flannery who are paid by the Govt - whoa, guess what? He found out the world is going to fry us all........

And those University researchers in the UK who get 17million pounds a year to research climate! So what if they changed a few emails and alter data to come up with their bodgy conclusions.....

You try working in the sun for a few hours and tell me it's all lies .Compare it to being somewhere that has an ozone layer .

Mark Neeld couldn't have said it better himself.

If I was found to be making untrue, damaging statements against my current employer to others in the industry, I would be fired.

IF a rat is found I would expect no less.

Channel 9 claimed they knew who it was but for privacy (yeah, yeah I know - Ch9 lol) and other reasons were not going to name him

So is it common knowledge in the press? If so, its going to bust sooner or later

I was not singling them out the poster I was responding to did that. I agree I am impressed by Neeld and the accusation against him was way out of line.

I just cant believe how quick and without any facts people are prepared to suggest its a player.

Mifsud and Thomas have come out looking like total tools. How can one beleive what they say without evidence or a "confession"?

Let's give our "senior indigenous player" at least the benefit of any doubt before condemning him on the basis of rumor and innuendo, even if part of it came from that bastion of integrity, the AFL.

Yeah?

At the very least the Indigenous boys should front the Full Leadership group One at a Time, to either Fess Up, or explain what or who has said what to Mifsud...

Then When we find the Culprit, they stand before the whole footy dept, Boot Studders, Trainers, Staff, Players, Coaches & explain to them why...

Then the Leadership group should decide what to do about it.

Huh, I'm surprised Mif hasn't recieved a Thankyou parting envelope of say, Um, $100,000.00... you know, a thankyou, for your confidential approach...

So where does a club "Indiginous Welfare Officer" (or whatever its called) stand in your definition of racism?

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you but the whole concept of setting up a specific racial support system has always struck me as having a level of paternalism if not racism (depending on definition)

Not trying to start a fight or be controversial, but it just shows the difficulty of defining little 'r' racism

No worries Robbie just my opinion on this matter to me we are all Demons from the supporters to the players and employees, same in life really just hate the seperation as IMHO it causes divides for generations and prevents us all moving forward but thats another discussion beyond a footy board

Why start this with a scornful 'Yeah'? You list a perfectly reasonable process that might be followed if certain things are true, but how does that contradict monocular's plea to " give our "senior indigenous player" at least the benefit of any doubt before condemning him". The 'yeah' sounds like you do believe in condemning people based on rumour. I presume you don't believe that, so please cool it.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
