Following up on a topic raised on the Big Bash thread I thought I would start a thread on the Melbourne Cricket Club here.

With the advent of the BBL the Demons are at a further disadvantage as they regularly lose players like Hodge, McDonald, Maxwell  and occasionally Keath to the various state teams and now to the extended BBL competition.

Yesterday, in a one dayer, they easily beat Richmond who were dismissed for 186 (interesting number that!) and in reply they scored 3/187 with the Michael Hill 74, Alex Keath 68no the main run scorers.

That wasn't enough to get the club into the finals of the competition's one day series (they missed out on run rate) but the 2nds, 3rds & 4ths are all in their finals.

The competition proper resumes next week and the Demons are well placed for the finals.

Fourth placed Melbourne is in a great position against ladder leader Carlton after the first day of the current round of Premier Cricket.

The Blues had an ordinary day against the Demons being bowled out for just 116. Melbourne quick Dan Worrall was the star with the excellent figures of 6/16 off 12.3 overs with 7 maidens. It could have been even worse for Carlton, with a 50-run last wicket stand between Nick Austin (25no) and Chris Salm (25).

Melbourne was in command at stumps, reaching 5/223, with Rob Cooper (80) and former Gold Coast listed footballer Alex Keath (79) adding 115 for the third wicket and should press for the outright on the second day.

The Blues had an ordinary day against the Demons being bowled out for just 116. Melbourne quick Dan Worrall was the star with the excellent figures of 6/16 off 12.3 overs with 7 maidens. It could have been even worse for Carlton, with a 50-run last wicket stand between Nick Austin (25no) and Chris Salm (25).

Melbourne was in command at stumps, reaching 5/223, with Rob Cooper (80) and former Gold Coast listed footballer Alex Keath (79) adding 115 for the third wicket and should press for the outright on the second day.

Always love to thrash Carlscum at any Sport. I refuse to go near Lygon St. I know i miss good food and coffee by doing it, but standards must be adhered to, and Carlscum have none!

We owe them nothing.

They owe us plenty.

They are not worth supporting.

I respect your nostalgia but without us they would not exist although our form of entertainment has proved far more profitable than theirs.

i also acknowledge that without them the same is true.

Interesting tussle between the Demons and the Cats in Premier District Cricket at the Albert Ground today with the MCC just dismissing Geelong for 266. They were chasing 7/354 (dec) and were motoring along quite nicely at tea with Aaron Finch in the 80s and the score 4/207. Finch got his ton but the wheels fell off and the Cats lost 6/33.

Demons likely to figure strongly in the finals.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.     The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm.
