That's Deefence's opinion on who's his favourite. No need to criticize. Bail is very good to watch and I wouldn't be surprised if he's on some more top 10 lists in the coming years.

1. Allen Jakovich (1991 season fuelled my passion)

2. Phil Read (Ultimate cult figure, beloved by me but hated by many)

3. David Neitz (Machine)

4. Garry Lyon (Occassionally functioning machine. 1998 season still my favourite)

5. Jim Stynes (Ever reliable)

6. Russell Robertson (Frustrating but loveable)

7. Matthew Whelan (Most underrated player of my time)

8. Brad Green (very fashionable to ignore at the moment)

9. James McDonald (untainted for now even by the GW$ connection)

10. Andrew Leoncelli (Mr. Football Park)

Apologies to Martin, Frawley, Trengove (will all eventually qualify), Ingerson, Seecamp, T. Viney and for reasons only known to me Kevin Dyson, Jeff Hilton and Jamie Shanahan.

1. The Wiz. One player you'd pay money to just go and watch. When he was on, nothing was impossible.

2. Robbie Flower. If it were based on best players, he'd be number 1 that I've seen.

3. Sean Wight. What he could do, and who he could do it on was truly remarkable. The 80's/90's had some of the greatest Full Forwards (Ablett, Dunstall, Lockett), and White could walk off with his head held high. Great man.

4. Al Jako. Wowee, what excitement. Anyone remember that goal he kicked against North - soccer goal, over his shoulder, about 30m out, was when they were building the Souther Stand?

5. Jeff White. I get the sense he has copped a bit on here, but he was one of the best rucks I've seen, and enjoyed going to a game to spend 70% of it watching White (when Wiz wasn't playing!).

6. Schwarz. Would have to be one of the worst luck stories. What could he have been if he stayed sound? Neitz was a better CHB than FF, but because of Scharz's knee, we didn't get to see that combination often enough.

7. Jimmy. Amazing man onfield, how is it possible he is a better man offield?

8. Travis Johnstone. I know, I know, but has there been a more skillful player ever to play for the Dees? When he was on, he had that amazing skill, like Flower, to seem to have all the time in the world. He was silk.

9. Jack Watts. No doubt at this stage there have been better players in my lifetime (30-odd years), but in 2011 there were moments where Watts took me to a place that I liked! When he starts doing that for games, and then seasons, rather than quarters, he'll be a true great.

10. Liam Jurrah. I hope he is a 10+ year player for us. That's all I will say.

So many other players that I could've added. Where it was hard for me is that I generally didn't pick our best player as my favourite. Trying to remember all the jumpers I owened, the Number 2 (Robbie) was my first, then followed by 27 (Wight), then I went to 43 (Andrew Ford), and then that was replaced by the 33 and since the Wiz departed, I've retired my back! When I thought about bringing it out of retirement, number 31 up and left, so I'm holding off for another 12 months!

without giving my ten, one that hasnt been mentioned - even though he came from a different club and only played maybe 3 seasons - Steven Icke - a 6 foot CHB ( whose arms were 7'4" long) - rarely beaten and a great decision maker - cool as a cucumber

My list of favourite players:

1. Robbie Flower; I lived in Port during the dark years but would walk to the "G" and come home with the knowledge wehad the best player going around bar none.

2. Ronald Dale Barrassi: I am old. First number on my back. Had a pair of his boots. Remember going to the football with my dad just to see him.

3. Hassa Mann: Like Ronald Dale he is etched as a legend in my memory.

4. Gary Lyon: A true leader and barging tough.

5. Jimmy Stynes: Bar one moment of his career I loved watching him lope around the ground.

6. Adam Yze: How I wished he could go on forever...what was it that made him seem so much better than he was.

7. Rod Grinter: Neeld would have 6 of him in the team today. Imagine having him walk up to you at the start of a game.

8. Sean Wight: Desperate and totally lacking in fear. Would throw himself at the ball. Crazy double handed punches and lunges.

9. Jeff Farmer: "Wiz!" yelled the crowd. Say no more.

10. Gary Hardeman: Like Flower all class and better than the flashy pretender from North Melbourne on any given day.

Special mentions; Neitz, a ray of light in the dark, Jacko and Jacko (vich) both crazy and unpredictable. Fun to watch. David Schwartz oh my when he was on. Stinga, Stan Alves, Brett Lovett, Jeff White,Green, …I keep getting some greart memories from this thread keep it up.

Flower - Pure Class

Grinter - Pure Hardness

Wight - Brave and a Freak

Viney - Won it where it mattered at clearances and stoppages

Lyon - Born Leader, Great footballer with booming kick What could have been with a stronger back

Stynesy - Heart bigger than Phar Laps IMO stands along with the Red Fox and Barrass as legends of this club

Stinger - What could have been when he was fit showed class, sadly body let him down

Schwarter - Crippled by injuries but at his best he was almost unstoppable

Neitzy - AA at CHB & FF, gave everything for the club and made defenders know he was there

Woey - Did everything he could to get the best out of himself, to think we let him go and kept Yze and Jonno

Chris Connelly was my favourite for a time in the 80's but like others on this list was crippled by injuries. Trevgove is my current favourite and shows great leadership for a kid his age, I see another Woey in him with a bit more talent.

Strangely couldn't fit in Robbie Flower - I was twelve in '87 Robbie's last year/ the return to finals, I remember being a kid in the rooms running between and around the legs of the greats of the late 70's and early eighties many many times but strangely have a greater memory of the grunt and brilliance of Brian Wilson and don't fully recall the grace of Robbie. I wish I could remember more of Robbie other than he was really really nice off field. I recall how Peter Daicos made time stand still and was just a magician, I put Robbie in that class but unfortunately the memories aren't as sharp as they should be. I would have seen him play live a good 1 to 200 times. Hmmm

Great to see a lot of love for Stinga!

I remember in 2000 hoping he would come back...would have given us some toughness we lacked on that last day in September. Had the biggest guns in the AFL. Alas a career cut too short.
