Well done Martin Flanagan on another great piece. It would still take a miracle for Jim to make it to another Christmas next year, but by God he's an amazing fighter!!! I personally wouldn't count it out. I will freely admit that I didn't think he'd survive for this long with such an aggressive disease in his body; he continues to prove all the doubters wrong.

Wonderful piece. Nice to see there are still great writers around.

I shed a tear of joy reading the line which is the title of this thread.

Jimmy is the MFC and I hope regardless of how long he is around that the MFC has his essence deep within its DNA.

Martin Flanagan - A great Irish name.

How could he go wrong writing such a wonderful story about the battles of a Champion Irishman.

The thing I gained most from this piece is how strong Sam is.

I am quite certain that the strength Jimma has shown,is enhanced by the strong character of this wonderful woman.

If anyone of any less strength and support had been around him. I don't think he would have made it this far.

Keep Fighting Jimbo & Sam

Love you both.

I read this beautifully written and inspiring piece through watery eyes, but with an inner smile. I can think of no one but Jimmy who could evoke that reaction from me. What a man!

Well here's hoping that like Lazarus, you get life Jimma, not just an extension. The tears in my eyes are tears of sadness, happiness, respect, amazement and love. You are an amazing man, and as they say, behind every great man there is an even greater woman. My favourite part of this fantastic article is when MF asks Jimmy if he enjoyed life, and Jimmys response was one that only Jimmy could give in a situation like he is in. "I love life". Amen brother.

Most of us journey through life without thinking too often of the end.

Sure, we know we won't live forever, but death is an event that will happen at some undetermined point somewhere in our future.

Despite knowing we are mortal we push that fact to one side, blissfully ignorant of our death until it is upon us - or perhaps not at all.

I struggle to comprehend what it must be like to be aware of your impending death, teetering on the edge for months, then years, and then months again.

It sounds like Stynes has embraced the positive of this brush with mortality; the prioritising of what is really important, something most of us won't do until it is too late.

Like a lot of articles about Jimmy it was both sad and uplifting. A brilliant piece by Martin Flanagan.

It really does sound like he's on his last legs, but as long as there's a breath in his body he will keep fighting. I wish I could have the same appreciation that one single days brings.

Like Don McLardy says in his review of season 2011 in Heartbeat: "Jim will never stand down while he can stand up and contribute." It's just such an unbelievable attitude to have about life and what inevitably follows it.

I read this article this morning with great sadness to think Jimmy may not see another christmas, But then to read he had some reprieve, which will hopefully see him being able at least to have one special christmas with Sam and the kids, gave me some hope for him. I have said it before I pray for a miracle for Jim, jeysus Sam and him deserve it!.

I hope Jimmy gets far beyond christmas for the sake of his family and he gets to see the Dees play at the G at least one last time. Should this happen I hope the boys play with Jim's spirit so the way he seen us finish 2011 is not his last memory of his beloved demons!

Keep fighting the fight Jimmy and may God bless you.
