Disco Demons 92 Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Morton = DUD! Sorry guys...the Brother at Syd a dud also. We got shafted at the trade table end of story. Morton has had a horror run....but I think morton is on the up...i'm going to give him a few more games before i make up my mind..
Forest Demon 4,681 Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Morton = DUD! Sorry guys...the Brother at Syd a dud also. We got shafted at the trade table end of story. Sorry, but what trade table are you talking about? You do realise he was drafted to the MFC don't you? I am far from convinced about Cale, but has definitely shown promising signs the last couple of weeks.
Mac7 309 Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Great article, very honest about confidence and attitude. I'm not writing him off yet. Although he needs a consistent year from here.
Guest José Mourinho Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 1. Your assuming we are better resourced now to be able to do this. Its been mentioned in the media MFC have not go ahead with certain initiatives due to the lack of a 2nd sponsor. 2. We are still light years behind most other clubs in development. Neil Craig was not appointed as a Development Coach. One of key responsibilities is "a key responsibility for the Director of Sport Performance will be supporting, developing and mentoring the coaching team. The role will strongly focus on the establishment of an elite performance culture, in particular strategy and innovation." His focus is not on 1 on 1s with the players. We are up against sides that have groups of development coaches. 3. You are assuming Cale has been skimmed in the past also that he was worked on these issues in isolation and there have not been individual programs for players. In the past 2 years when he was dropped there have been statements that Cale has had to work on certain parts of his game and his attitude towards it. And give Cale has played over 80% of matches in the past 4 years and his form has waivered its a bold assumption that he has been skimmed. Maybe a bold assumption, but it would seem a correct one. See article on MFC website: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/tabid/7415/default.aspx?newsid=135366 “Jade Rawlings, the backline coach, was great with me at the VFL. He outlined for me what I had to do to achieve what was considered a benchmark game, which would earn me selection in the senior team. Morton’s versatility has been a feature of his game at Melbourne. He has played in all three divisions, but now feels he has some stability. “In the past, I’ve been so confused about the position I’ve played. There have been weeks gone by where I haven’t had a game review following a match, because I’ve been unsure about which coach to see, because I was drifting between positions,” he said. That is an indictment upon the previous coaching group and their ability to function professionally.
BIG JIM 508 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Well done cale keep going mate. Wow that was the best look into our club i have seen ever,it told us how the old coaching panel was just not any good “It feels like a professional football club now, which is funny to say,” “This year I came back from injury, and I played for a month in the VFL. I earned my spot in the senior side through form. “Last year, I was eight weeks out with my finger. I came straight back into the team, and wasn’t able to make an impact. I was unsettled, and was in and out of the team for the rest of the year, because I was unable to build momentum with my form.” So it was great the way the coach has handled it this year, because I had to earn my spot in the team. “In the past, I’ve been so confused about the position I’ve played. There have been weeks gone by where I haven’t had a game review following a match, because I’ve been unsure about which coach to see, because I was drifting between positions,” he said. Well this says it all about Dean Bailey and co they were killing this club and all the talent we have. I am so happy to have a coach who is a coach not your best mate GO DEES
Guest José Mourinho Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 You need to invest time and resources in these kids, in a deliberate, considered and structured fashion, and if they have the talent and the character they will repay the effort. Watts will be the same.
Trengove the Magnifique 9 23 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Maybe a bold assumption, but it would seem a correct one. That is an indictment upon the previous coaching group and their ability to function professionally. Spot on, that was the thing that stood out the most for me.
Freak 100 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I felt like he lied when he said that Bartram had pointed out his 'inability to stick to structures'...surely it was 'his softness at the contest' that is evident for all to see.
Nasher 33,674 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 He also said that Bartram "laid it bare for him" - that doesn't sound like pussyfooting around the issue to me.
rpfc 29,022 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 That is an indictment upon the previous coaching group and their ability to function professionally. Let's not hang Bailey here - the club did not invest in development or the FD while Bailey was in charge.
drdrake 3,203 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Reading Cales comments gives you an understanding on why all our early picks haven't lived up to their junior talent. It makes the past seem a complete mess that hoped that talent alone would take us forward.
Guest José Mourinho Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Let's not hang Bailey here - the club did not invest in development or the FD while Bailey was in charge. No, you're right. Part of the reason the football department didn't have the ability to operate as a professional outfit was that they were under-resourced. But I'd also say that was only part of the problem. Missing out on reviewing a player's match is unforgivable and points to a level of incompetence.
sylvinator 96 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 No, you're right. Missing out on reviewing a player's match is unforgivable and points to a level of incompetence. Wow, what was the club doing in past years. More coaches was CRITICAL. Now we've got 2 coaches on every line, an assistant coach and a development coach. That's so much better. In relation to Cale, poor Cale has missed the start of the last 3 seasons with 6-8 week injuries just before the season starts. that's always going to put you on the back foot the entire season. I'm glad he's getting some form.
The heart beats true 18,201 Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Cale's interview was terrific. He knows exactly where he is and what he needs to do to be successful. I know that we are going through a rough period but it sounds like that sort of understanding about where you're at as a player has clearly been missing from our development, and has now been put in place. It was interesting to hear him talk candidly about his relationship with supporters too. Made me really want to see him succeed.
Guest José Mourinho Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 It looks like our mate Cale has been eating at Tapscott's house and is starting to put on some definition... The guns are growing.
Norm Smith's Curse 2,602 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I must admit I like his disposal. I have been a harsh critic but after some signs this year Ill shut my mouth for now.
jnrmac 20,368 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Bye bye Cale. I think you'll find it hard to get back into the team from here on in....
Jordie_tackles 354 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Bye bye Cale. I think you'll find it hard to get back into the team from here on in.... is quite/very sad that you seem to take so much joy in a talented MFC players struggle with form. I thought he was good until last week also he will be back within the month
Good Times Grimes 2,396 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 is quite/very sad that you seem to take so much joy in a talented MFC players struggle with form. I thought he was good until last week also he will be back within the month Agreed. It's a shame that there's no Casey game this week for him to try and work back into form. There were several who should have been dropped before him.
General 35 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Seems to be one of the few this year who has taken steps to changing his ways. Think he'll be made to work hard by Neeld, and it'll be good for him. Number in the team who are still being gifted their spots. We're a poor team, all on the list will get plenty more opportunities before the end of year delistings. I doubt anyone's papers are stamped just yet, perhaps Green is locked into retirement but that's it I'd say.
Nasher 33,674 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Bye bye Cale. I think you'll find it hard to get back into the team from here on in.... I think he won't. When we get flogged by 10 goals again at least once in the next three weeks there'll be another round of selection musical chairs, and when there is Morton should be back in. He wasn't great (hence the omission) but overall he's going fine.
rpfc 29,022 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 He was showing signs, he'll be back. And I hope Misson get s another pre-season with Cale. Try and get something for our investment.
olisik 4,060 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 from what i hav seen of morton this year i think he will make it as a player. he will be a classy player in years to come.
Red N Blue Society 165 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Sorry Forest Demon, I meant draft table. I would have loved Cale to succeed but I think his time at MFC is done much like Flash & maybe Col. There was a time I saw a bit of R Flower in him but that went out the window fast. Everytime I see him play I now cringe...bad skills, gets caught alot..cant break tackles because of no muscle. The guy is quite tall but rarely takes a grab in the air & is a reciever from what I see in most games. Doesnt like the hard ball...but isnt the only one thats for sure. There will be a cleanout end of year & I put $$ on it hes probably dusted. Or Cale can shut me up & prove me wrong!
mdemonski2 403 Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 I did not watch swans game (thankfully as it turns out) but prior to that I thought morton was doing ok and improving nicely? Can someone tell me why he was dropped from last week's performance?
