We should be chasing major mining sponsorship. Go and get a BHPB, FMG or Rio... Look at the Dockers with Woodside.

Something with an Aussie flavour to it.

WYL - has there been any mention of this company anywhere other than on this forum?

Billy i know as much as you do tbh. All i will say is that if CS is over in China right now i am confident we will secure another top line sponsorship deal before the ball is bounced in 2012. The type of deal that clubs like North, Footscray and even Richmond could not compete for because their name and heritage is not Melbourne. It does help. Edited by why you little

However, clubs like Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon can still compete for the big sponsorship dollars becasue of their brand.

I would like to know if people think that the front of our jumper is worth the same, or more than the front of a Collingwood or Geelong jumper? If I were in a position to invest $m's in to AFL sponsorship, and our price was equal to the other 2, I'm quite sure I wouldn't invest in to the Red & Blue.

Sure other clubs can compete. But China wouldn't know them. But they do know the Melbourne name. And if marketed properly it will be most lucrative. It is what should have slowly happened way back in the 60's-70's when the game started to generate $$$. The MFC is very smart to keep the China doors open.

What was the story with the Shanghai Showdown - was it always going to be just a once off? For some reason I thought I heard/read that it would be something we were going to do each year (I could be making things up here!).

No doubt the Chinese market is potentially quite a lucrative one, but I'm just doubtful that we will land a major sponsor that will pay more than what EW did. I think if we can get a company on board, in similar style to Kaspersky, then we have done well. I would still stand by my estimations of a $1.3m per year price tag. When people are talking a $2m a year price tag, all of a sudden it is a significant investment, which I'm just not sure if a Chinese company would see a great return on.

That is about as close as you need to be KiL.

Just a joke of course, I am getting a little edgy that nothing appears to have happened.

Just want the sponsor in the bank, round off a good post season after the season from hell

You know as much as i do Billy. But just remeber that China is now the world manufacturer now, as Japan was post 1960's. So a strong sponsorship deal could be massive. The market is now so much harder at home with the 2 new AFL corporations diluting the market. So i think it is very smart to entice overseas Greenery into our business plan. But like you i am only speculating. I am confident though that our emblem will help sell our club to a very large backer. Be it now or in 5 years.

Yes exactly like that, i think they definitely need to make a move sponsorship wise if they want to become a player in the Australian market.

And if they are the second largest manufacturer in China then they will have the $$$$ to splash in our Market easily.

You can be first on the scene, maybe it was in the back of my mind from that post.

Mate... sory Im not trying to trump only show that youre definitely not alone in that thinking. I thought it was as som ethink a good marraige as it were. . Chanchong seem to be at that natural take-of point for brand awareness , as were LG.

What vould be worse than some maega consumer electronics mob coming on board for a 3-5 year stint at... $lots-'n'-lots !!!.

We are a proven work-horse for this kiind of thing. For me...it has wings. Obviously its all up to the various parties.. Be very interested to see who comes on board. ( like der )

The overseas market is the toughest one to crack in to, and I'm a firm believer you have to start off small (like we did with Kaspersky), and take baby steps from there. If a Chinese investor were to offer $1.3m a season, plus we could get Kaspersky on a minor sponsorship package, then we can see that we are starting to make in-roads. It would also be a great achievement considering AFL is just that, an Australian football league. It's not a world sport, it's a very captured audience (which compared to some international sports, isn't very big!).

Will be interesting to see who ends up coming on board, and how much they pay. I for one won't be disappointed if we land a $1.3m sponsor, I just know a select few on here will be calling for Cam's head if "that's the best" he can get.

The back of the jumper got 1.9 the front will earn no less otherwise youd be asking to get the front . Stands to reason.

It seems reasonable to think that 'someone; is either at the line...very very near the line, or over the line.

if we can land a deal over there i am more interested in the length of it. Anything over $1 mill per year is worth considering in the current climate , but i do consider us worth more. Australia is a small market yes, but we do spend and that keeps production lines ticking over.

Well,a suggestion to CS if indeed he is in China, go to Tianjin, our sister (Melbourne's) whom we maybe able to get John So ,former Mayor to assist to gain sponsorship. We may get them also to sponsor us when we move to Docklands.Air Asia whom flies from KL to Tianjin may become joint sponsor or coaches sponsor. These are thoughts only. But it is about time we utilize all our resources and networks accordingly.

What miles? A group trip to the Great Wall and a Mickey Mouse game agaisnt the Lions?

We cut our teeth with Kaspersky coming on board, let's just take the time to build this empire, not think that we are at the peak already. There is a heck of a lot of building to do - put the walls up before you go putting the roof on.

If a Chinese company is willing, after negotiations with CS, to give us $1.3m over 5 years, I'd be taking it. Anything over that is cream for me. I know you totally disagree B59, but that doesn't mean to say you're right. I'm also quite sure that when EW put the $1.9m cheque on the table, the question would've been asked "front or back". I'm very doubtful that we would've said "$1.9m? That's only enough to get you the back, sorry".

$1.3mill over 5 years..No, i would want $1.3 mill per year for 5 years otherwise it is not worth a jumper deal.

It was my understanding that the Kasperksy deal was finished up. Is this the case or did i miss some news?

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
