Back to rumours please.

Start a "Green is Good" thread on the Football forum people!

I come to this thread to hear nonsense and wishful thinking!

Posted

Green doesn't want to re-sign and is looking for other opportunities, also Sidebottom and Pendlebury want to follow Neeld over to the dees!

Wow I hope you're 2/3. No prizes for guessing which 2 I hope are correct!

Posted

Just want to write this and see what people think...

Brad Green has been a Melbourne player since 1999.

He has played 241 games.

He has won games off his own boot.

He has ran with the flight of the ball and nearly killed himself more than once.

He turned down more money and success at Collingwood so he could remain a loyal one club player.

He has given everything that he possibly could of himself to the Melbourne Football Club.

However he had 1 bad year as a captain in 2010.

Brad Green may or may not be finished, next year will decide that.

But the fact that supporters of the Melbourne Football Club sit in judgement and declare he shouldn't be offered a deal and maybe he should retire is a disgrace.

So he wasn't a good captain... Wow then we should delist him.

What if Trengove is a bad captain and we suck in '12? What if Frawley is a bad captain and we suck in '12?

Just take the captaincy off Greeny, it isn't that hard and it is all the MFC need to do in regards to Green.... Just let him play care free again.

Whether he stays or goes, is good or bad, he at the very least deserves the slightest bit of respect.

Or do we want another James Mcdonald situation? Pay respect to the people who have come before and what they have done.

Totally agree.

and the same for Davey.

I just posted it somewhere else, but I would like to see Green given at least another year. He has been a good servant of the club, and he was in great form last year. I think he will sign. He probably doesn't have much chance of getting picked up anywhere else.

I thought the Sidebottom and Pendlebury comment was taking the mickey ( or taking the Mikey).

Pendlebury has signed for one further year at the Pies. (GWS 2013 here we come)

Do you work for NIDA D-32. Drama classes?

Green didn't Cut-it as Captain, he went backwards. we want a change of Captain.

How can that be perceived to be that we want him gone?

A 2 Yr deal at a reasonable rate for the first year. A lesser rate with bonuses re KPI's, 2 nd Yr.

I was taking the mickey... when I posted it the sub heading was "real or fake rumours..." and now it's not there my comment doesn't have the same context.

My conscience has gotten the better of me now. It was fun watching everyone get their knickers in a knot over the Green comment though.

For the record- nobody actually said he shouldn't be re-signed. Jumping at shadows at it's best lol!

Green is still in NY i think he'll sign when he gets back

Pendelbury rates Neeld very highly i'd take him any day he'd demand more cash than he who must not be named

At least Pendles will be worth that cash. I would be throwing everything we have at him if there is the slightest chance that it could happen.

One mighty post. With you all the way on this.

He might not be a super star but he's given his all for this club and shown courage that many other players could have done well to follow over many a season.

So the Captaincy didn't fit. We move on and let him play some good to very good footy as we all know he can next year.

I'm sure he'll be a key part of Neeld's plans going forward in the short term (given he's now into his veteran years).

One of the few reliable goal kickers in the team as well, albeit a bit of an off year this season. He'll bounce back under Neeld i'm sure.

I'm not so sure it's that easy. I believe he just might have some serious psychological baggage regarding where we play (ie., has admitted that the Demons seem to stand taller at the G and not at Etihad or away etc) and the hard tag that other teams now seem willing to place on him to shut him down and psyche him out of the contest. I realise he might be carrying an injury too. But for me there was more to it than injury alone this year.

Physically, i have no doubts he could overcome any issues if he was willing to work hard for it. He obviously has in the past given some of the fine years he's produced prior to this year. And he no doubt has the talent.

Just not convinced he's capable upstairs anymore.....and they say that a big part of the game is played there.

Maybe Neeld can break this downer his on and help him through it with the right methods/processes/help etc. I guess we'll find out next year.

However, if he's just not happy at the Demons (and i'm not saying he isn't....just assuming given what i've seen this season...body language/attitude) it might be best for both Davey and us to look to trade him, provided we get very good value.

I agree as well.

The fact remains though that apart from the jumper grab at the Crows game, there's not been a whole lot of passion from Greeny of late. I appreciate that there was a lot going on behind the scenes that might have been distracting for him from playing well or being an effective Captain but some players of his age find it harder to come back from a mediocre season.

Let's hope he can.

I think your right about it being in his head and the same with Davey but I am of the view that is much easier to fix.

New coach new year.

RN I think you are fairly close to the mark here.

IMO while Green had a poor year it was still way better than Davey.

The unfortunate part for Green is his contract expired this year, Davey's is still running.

If it where up to me I would offer Davey up as trade bait.

However after 2011 not sure you would get much in the way of offers.

So we are probably stuck with him.

That may be, but the fact remains: both Green and Davey can improve on 2011.

If they have any pride in themselves they won't let 2011 define them.

If anyone doesn't perform this year for any reason other than injury they will find themselves on the outer quick smart!

Whilst we are discussing mediocrity here's a topical hot potato (spud)- Michael Newton. Any (3rd) chance this hack could turn things around under Neeld? Maybe he can play the role of the big KF we are seeking.

He is not necessarily skillful but we can plant him deep and let our other forwards feed off his semi-retarded attempts at getting it?

No, Never, Zilch, Zero, Nada, Nei

My head will blow clean off if he does

7 years on a senior list 7 bloody years

I know, I know he's a rookie he's taking no primary list players spot

but he's not up to it I wish him all the best with his endeavours

success happiness and life everlasting

get the spud off the list it's embarrassing he comes in for his standard chop out of 4-6 games a year

He'll be wheeled out in wheelchair soon as some sort of carnival attraction

Come one come all see the spud butcher the ball

Come on come all see the spud trip over his own feet and fall.

On other news MFC trading mid round compo pick plus Warnock to GWS for Jaegar O'Meera has us narrowly

in front of GC who are offering pick 4.

I'm sure this is 'news' to GWS, who - I would have thought - thinks Pick 4 is better than Pick 11(ish) with Warnock...

A set of steak knives are still just a set of steak knives at the end of the day.

Warnock is not worth the difference between Pick 11(ish) and Pick 4.

Why would a team with pick 1,2,3,5,7,9,11,13,15 want pick 4 this year and give a team that had the same picks last year another what is considered top line kid. GWS will want first round picks in next years draft they will get pick 1 but they would want to add more first round picks, the same as Gold Coast has done by trading picks with Geelong last year. You have to continue to build you list through a number of drafts not just 1.

I hope you are right.

It is hard to see that in Davey's case he could be worse than 2011.

If Green could up his goal count from 31 to 35 then he will be worth his spot i imagine.

Either way they will probably both be in our squad in 2012.

Pick can be banked and used any time in the next five years

I think that's the main attraction it offers flexibility

Hear a new one today. My friend's dad is a carpenter and has worked with Whitecross from the Hawks and has a few a Hawks connections. He told me today that Sewell is for some unknown reason unhappy and he said it with a real look of concern on his face. Warnock and a third rounder anyone???

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
