He should also be in today... we might have something better than 3.9 for our effort in the first 40 mins of footy

Totally agree with this. We absolutely dominated the first quarter, yet got no scoreboard pressure for it. I reckon Sylvia at half forward would've made a big difference.

I cannot believe some people think it might be okay to let him go. He's probably our most talented player, and, quite simply, we won't get adequate compensation for him, absent some stunning luck or gross negligence by some other club.

He will dominate at a good club - the fact that the Swans (and other clubs) really want him demonstrates this.

His stats and body language do give something away. But it has nothing to do with his physical fitness.

And what would Lyon and Viney know hey? lol

Look if you are saying its mental ... I will accept thats your point of view. I'm not 100% sure it is.

Last thing Lyon & Viney would want to say is oh yes, he is carry a right hip injury blah, blah blah ... this is the old "sheedy flu trick".

But you go ahead and have a crack at the negative side of the debate. Thats what people do around here ... its almost the default forum model.

Its possible its a bit of both!!! ... but geez it makes damn good radio to talk tough ... gives some people some sort of satisfaction. B)

When you go on radio you have a target audience ... its not the players is it?????

PS Blind Freddy could see Jarah needed as rest too. But hey if you dont go to the games HTF would you know.

I knew you'd say this.

I don't agree with you in this instance but it's good to see that you're open to the possibility that people lie and obfuscate in media interviews.

Yip mate ... I've been with you all the way on that point in here on those debates. Please if anybody has agreed with you on those points its me. I've intimated the same if you didn't notice on a certain saga ... I just think in that saga the preferable destination might be a little different B) ... would GWS have an involvement yip I pointed that out too ... YES if its in their interest.

I have never, never had a crack at you on the possibility the people in AFL football teams bend the truth.

PS Glad you now agree with me its not 100% mental with Col ... there is some grey area in there. B)

They say much of football, over 90% of it is between the ears once you cross the white line. . Lets just say if their was a calendar for this then Colin would be one of the 12 !!

and many factors come to bear in how this happens.

Just to make MY point clear for you RR ... experienced people in AFL football bend the truth in AFL football for self gain.

Do I think there is a possibility Gubby Allen has bent the truth Yes ... does he have past history ... YES

Do I think there is a possibility Kevin Sheedy has bent the truth Yes ... does he have past history ... YES

Do I think there is a possibility Tom Scully has bent the truth Yes ... does he have past history ... NO why I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Ultimately, people will believe what THEY want ... but think I've said that from day 1 also.

Hope that helps you with my point re-Col. He is a tuff committed AFL footballer who has played with injury for most of his AFL career. You can see it in his body language ... Yet if you asked him he would say ... "nah, nah I'm right". Its his nature.

PS But if you dont go too the games ... HTF would they know. ahhhhhhhhh ... its obvious half the people around here are nothing but keyboard heroes ... but I'm not saying that about you. They have no clue about even the most basic references to our club ... B)

More crap absolute rubbish. Mentally Col is one tough bloke. I challenge you again grows some balls and say it to his face if its what you think. Mate he would laugh at you. You constantly display you have no idea about our players.

Insulting him to make you feel better ... is misguided logic. You dont support us ... you support your own self beliefs.

No problems ... if it makes you feel better think what you want. B)

Mate I feel the pain every week, why I probably come here and have a go at you blokes so much. When I look around myself and see a sea of opposition supporters. I think gutless, weak, soft ... but its not out on the ground its in the stands.

But Melbourne supporters have a history of being selfish ... the want the spoils the premierships before the hard work. Sorry its 2011 it does not work that way in the modern era of AFL football.

However, it is a public forum ... I have the right to voice my opinion. I understand why there is soooooooo much hatred for it around here, I understand why many cant and dont want to understand me.

But you go ahead believe what you want ... B)

PS I'm no troll but I can see how I would be perceived that way ... I dont agree with the majority around here. :)

PSS Just tell me where I bent the truth? I'm happy to have the discussion. But at least I know the truth compared to know only what the media publishes.

I'm sure that was a key reason but he was also virtually unsighted against Hawthorn and Geelong. Not good enough on both counts.

The terms 'flatters to deceive' was invented for sportsmen like Sylvia.

To my mind his bad habits are now too far gone to break and we would do well to trade him and get something of genuine value while we can.

He goes missing in the big games and when we need him most, I'm either way on Sylvia it doesn't bother if he goes and good if he stays.

My feeling is that we have another "trapper" in Sylvia.

High draft pick who put is some blinders but quite often is among the missing.

When we traded Trapper I thought we hade made an error but we got Grimes

and Trapper did the same at Brisbane as he had at Melbourne.

Now it maybe the same with Sylvia.

Is it time to trade him for a high draft pick?

I am not sure but it has a familiar smell to it.

Yeah, let him become a 10 year player somewhere else.

Spot on synopsis...

Add him to the trade pile

yep OLD very familair isnt it.

Yeah good thinking. He has played 8 years with us, so that would make him an 18 year player.

Sylvia in his 8 th season doesnt show the application and consistency that a 1 and a 2 season player do.!!!!

I know the type of player I would want to keep and emulate. I also know who needs a good kick.... and a wake up...and he'll possibly enjoy that at a new home.

FCS..if he doesnt know what he is supposed to do by now !!!!

I'm hearing rumours Sydney are into Colin Sylvia, if that is true, play hard ball at trade time. Tell the Swans - Here he is we want Sam Reid in return and as a package if Scully goes (and it still is if) we will give you one of our compensation picks in return for Keiran Jack. If they take that I will drive from Perth to Melbourne myself then convey Col to Sydney and drive the other two back. In those two pick ups you know what you get honest performers who bring something extra to the team, Fight which is what we need. I know Sylvia has the big body which we desperatley need but he doesn't appear to me to have that leave everything on the field endeavour in him.

If he wants to go to Sydney, they can have him & a 2nd round pick for Gary Rohan.

Done deal.

Nice idea but you'd need to offer more to prize Reid away.

Col gets a 2 year deal in my eyes....Time to step up Colin, but i think he is still required for 2012-13

I agree, but I wouldn't mind engineering a Deal to get Andrew Gaff back home to us, if we could work out something.

Sylvia to Sydney + maybe Davey or Bennell or someone, to West Coast for Gaff + a pick from 2012 draft.

Sydney get their player,,, WC get they're small forward,,, & we'd get a great young Mid we need, with great foot skills.

# Sydney would obviously give something to the equation that would be used to balance the Deal somewhere.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
