Allan Jeans had a star-studded team in the 1960s, and it is amazing they only won one premiership in their 'window'. 1966, the premiership to end all premierships.

In my best ever 22 this bloke is the coach, just above Leigh Matthews. Sourpuss - yes. Disdain for the media - yes. One word answers that infuriated everyone - yes. But his boys played with a fire and a freedom that every team aspires to but few reach. Who could foget those Hawks of the 80's? Disciplined, tough, skillful, and those 2 or three with flair.

Great coach Yabbie - well done.

His Grand Final Speeches are well worth listening to...Top bloke Yabby.

Met him at a hawthorn Thursday night Sausage sizzle in '89.

He apologized to me for winning the '88 flag but said "in life you must take your chances" Told me Northey was a great coach.

R.I.P. Allan Jeans...you were a beauty...old school, do ya best and do it again bloke.

I happened to be speaking to an ex-St Kilda player from the 60s-70s who was coached by Yab Jeans (apparently only the media called him Yabby). Allan Jeans had four pillars to his coaching philosophy upon which he built everything-else:

1. communication - everyone has to talk to each other & keep each other informed

2. respect - all Club members are due equal respect

3. responsibility - you are responsible for your actions

4. cooperation - everyone has to help each other, on & off the field

My friend recognised that Allan Jeans was teaching his players about life as well as football. I heard Dunstall use two of these four points on TV just last week. He did it almost subconsciously. Those four pillars are now inculcated into the Hawthorn FC, a club that has won nine premierships since MFC's last in 1964.

It sounds like the MFC will not get the current Hawthorn coach. We would do very well to listen to this legendary Hawthorn coach.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
