Can't stand Mick Malthouse. I simply can't stomach Malthouse. Him in red and blue would just kill me.

Even if he was holding a big silver cup?!!!

You will not notice him at 5.00 PM after our win on GF day!

From what I have been told, there is a view inside the club that Bailey has been a good development coach but that we need someone new to move us into the new phase and win a Premiership. I have been told by one source that the club has spoken to Roos and Clarkson. Roos has told them he is not interested in coming back as a coach, no word on Clarkson.

Ah, But has he said No to a Coaching managers role, to mentor Todd?

Nobody seems to mention Dean Laidley in any of these discussions - not rated..?

Yeah he is killing it at Port!

I'd take Ross Lyon over him!

Can't see Clarkson moving from Hawthorn unless he feels he hasn't 100% support. Kennett moves on next year so I cant see him moving. Malthouse, even if does walk we cant afford him. Roos says No. Who does that leave. Please not Williams. I would love to see Todd there but his first priority with be with Jack. Are there any others. Knights - No. Brad Gotch? Leigh Matthews? Wouldn't mind Leigh Matthews - his love child would be Tappy.

Dean Laidley?

Dean Laidley?

Wouldnt he be a good proactive face for Melbourne. Yeah right. Sorry what is his position at the moment. Part time in SA. No thanks. There must be someone else. I am not sure that Bails is still yet to be the one.

I'm happier with Bailey than most of the realistic alternatives.

Realistic in that they'd be attainable.

I think Laidley is one of those.

As is Wallace, Knights, or even Eade.

Same with an untried coach, like Sanderson, Viney, Cameron, Bickley, Wellman, McRae, Leppitsch, Caracella, Neeld, Watters, McCartney, Lade, Sumich, Rawlings Goodwin, Hinkley or Burns.

Paul Roos, Clarkson and Malthouse I personally put in the 'unrealistic' basket.

Who else is there..?

I'd take Sanderson/Matthews any day of the week.

Pagan is the only 1 of those 3 I consider a realistic option.

ps. how about Bailey / Matthews?

It's pretty much what we have now.

Posted

I'm in favor of keeping Bailey and adding to the current coaching panel.

Maybe Leigh Matthews in a mentoring roll and see if MFC could bring Burns back across the boarder. Would also be intrested in making a play for Neeld and Sanderson.

Roos, Clarkson and Malthouse would all be a great out come for the club, but they don't seem to be realistic options...

I'm of the 'give him one more year' camp now. I reckon we're on track for that. Give him a year, tell him 'finals or bust', and let him rip.

If he makes finals end of 2012, 2 or 3 year extension depending on how we go there.

Notta Wellman should at least be spoken to at seasons end....He will coach one day.

Geez you make some stupid posts...

Spoken to in what capacity? With a view to making him head coach?

If not, to what end?

Or do you think he'd return, a year after leaving, to take up the same assistant coaching gig?

What exactly do you use to judge his ability as a coach?

What makes you so confident he will be a head coach one day?

I actually think he will never be a head coach.

He's not an option I'd take, but if you offered the job to him, he'd jump at it.

Read the posts idiot - 'realistic' in that the candidate would accept the position if offered to him.

Look in the mirror lately.

Wellman is a superb defensive tactician. Huge respect from the players and is a great teacher of young kids.

You are talking rubbish ... absolute rubbish.

If you want to find out something ... go find it out yourself. Because you would not say half the things you do.

Sad thing is some people around here might actually believe you.

Ps If you want a critic on SW ... listen to James Hird or Bomber Thompson. Even better talk to a few of our boys down back.

Wellman has got a much better chance at being a senior coach than Dean Laidley has at getting another gig Artie.

Excellent defensive coach, which is where GF's are won from.

Don't be so rude and arrogant little man...it's tiresome.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
