Notwithstanding the other, self-deprecating responses, I must stand up for myself and say...well, and say...well...

This thread has morphed into Memory Lane.

Very nice; thank you, everyone (you all know who you are 😊 ) Guess it's good to get 'em out there before they disappear!

Yoyos re-appeared every year through primary school and into secondary. Clever, Coca-Cola Company. Their annual return, along with that of marbles (in the myriad ways they could be played) was, for a child, actually more certain than death and taxes.

Well ok smart [censored] ..... it was from YouTube

You are a brave man calling @WalkingCivilWar a smart [censored].  I note she has yet to post a retort.  Perhaps you have succeeded a never before achieved feat:  making her speechless or she is dreaming up a doozie of a response.  Methinks the latter!!

I’m actually flattered by BBO calling me a smart [censored], Luci. It’s the nicest thing he’s ever said about me.

Yeah but you can never predict what that deranged lady might do, Luci.

I think he has mellowed since the price of wine casks stabilised:

Is that why you keep on the right side of that deranged lady? Smart man. 😉

Is the left side the dangerous one?

Well, it’s the sinister side, as the Italian for “the left” will suggest… la sinistra. When it comes to BBO both sides of me are sinister. ☠️

Haha WCW, not really. i tend to keep on the right side of Jaded - because she scares me. You on the other hand, I just enjoy, because i never know what will come out of that mouth of yours next. I don't think even you do at times.

Is that why you didn't use the @ jaded feature... You are probably safe as she rarely ventures into this thread

I'm not really scared, just smart. No sense poking the bear (no offence intended Jaded!)

You’re not wrong! My smart mouth has got me into trouble many times. But then it’s got me outta trouble many times, too.

PS: I’m scared of Jaded, too (isn’t everyone?!). And I’m only confessing that because she doesn’t read this thread. At least, I sincerely hope she doesn’t.

😬

That’s definitely why I don’t tag her. I value my existence too much. But just in case she does venture here in a momentary lapse of sanity… geez, she’s a wonderful person. 😁

The absolute love of Jaded’s life is her adorable cavoodle whom she cherishes more than her husband (true story). His name is Bear… so maybe choose another figure of speech. 😝

Sure beats Mordialloc

Can’t let that one pass, Jontee.  I feel compelled to defend the honour of my childhood and teenage stomping ground!

I haven’t been to Merimbula and its been decades since going to Lakes Entrance.  But other than a nice beach they just don’t compare to the Mordi beach precinct at that time.

My memories:

  • A real Carnival; a mini Luna Park with a Ghost Train but sans the Big Dipper  The ‘Dodgems’ were the best rides!!  Always did love driving cars fast!
  • The Shindig dance on Sunday nights.  Johhny Farhnam and the Strings Unlimited performed there occasionally.
  • Fishing off the Mordi pier if one was so inclined.
  • Parents buying fresh fish straight from the sea from Mrs Pompeii’s gate at the Mordi Bridge; it was an illicit business I believe.  Apparently the gate is still there.
  • Just about the best and cleanest stretch of beach on Port Phillip Bay being north of the Mordi Creek.
  • Trapezing up the Mordi creek to pick blackberries and catch tadpoles.

All in all the beach precinct was an idyllic place to spend one’s childhood and teenage years.  And in latter years a refuge in times of trouble,

I'm scared of Jaded too...sometimes....

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
