well for one, her name. Estibaliz Carranza is a very strange germanic name for an austrian

Read the fine print, DC, ignore the salacious pictures, she's a Spanish National, of Mexican descent.

Apparently into ice cream and concrete.

So much so for being a 'Used Ice Cream' salesman.

yep, a strange place, austria, dieter. almost as weird as the "most liveable city in the world" :o that will teach us for naming the country after that place :P

It occurs to me that this thread is possibly the only one that can't be derailed. I mean, how could you tell ?

That is the wisest thing said on Demonland so far in 2017. In fact it could  take the crown for 2017.

Yes, strange place. I was born there, fled when I was two. Then my parents thought they were going back but forgot about the difference a consonant and a vowel or two makes. Ended up among the Scotch thistled paddocks and outside dunnies of North Sunshine ( So we're back in Scatland.)

I've never recovered.

I guess it could be railed, though, by mention of a certain GWS player ... :)

Most of you have missed the great literary genius behind this post. And English is not my mother tongue. Ah, the poetry and symbolism, Scot, Scat, the simple fact that a german knows the difference between a vowel and a consonant...

Pearls before pork munchers, and those who abhor the meat because in the olden days it rotted before a sheep or a cow or a horse or a camel or a donkey did. A refrigerator would have changed the kosher habits and aversions of all Semitic people, their Muslim cousins and brothers and sisters and fathers and mothers included, and given them the benefits of what my favorite Lebanese Deli in Orrong Road used to call 'Kosher Ham.'

What I take out of this Dieter, is that you quoted yourself. That is awesome.

you spoke fluent german when you were 2? i'm impressed dieter. of course sunshine was not a good place to learn english so i can sympathise. i grew up with irish parents (what the yanks call "ulster scots") so my english got off to a bad start too, not particularly helped by having german/polish jewish neighbours. still, being able to swear in 4 languages gave me kudos

oh, i forgot and a young viennese migrant couple as neighbours on the other side

It's a form of auto-didactic proselytizing. FYO.

You sound blessed: being able to swear in 4 languages.

Not even my father swore. Or my mother. I was distinctly underprivileged.

Ah, what treasure, German/Polish/Jewish neighbours.

I had the Morris Family, Doris Morris, who married the two timing Terry Twomey, and Ronald Morris who called me a poofta because I liked Beethoven.

Still, I was able to bowl him out mercilessly when we played cricket, mainly because I was fast and because at that time I was the greatest living German cricketer.

That was after many years of fruitless overs. And, I admit, he kept encouraging me to bowl faster. He had no fear.

Of a tennis ball.

Ah, not to mention the privilege of being an Ulster Scoot, that wonderfully rich cultural ancestry of dwelling in bogs and being sustained by the noble Taittie.

I envy you, most of all, because of that inimitably poetical cascading Irish brogue.

jawohl, t'be sure, t'be sure, dieter, 'tis a sweet wee sound, quite unlike that gutteral saxon

About time this thread got interesting.

Just ate fried nanas in Ha Long passed off as Vietnamese.

I've eaten them in Australian Chinese restaurants since the 70s

Ha long bay would be beautiful, probably was ,but too many humans here now.

The N/S divide is very much alive.

Call it South China.

Saigon is a rats nest, but Vietnamese all the same.

Still beats Borewood by a by a thousand miles yet nobody here is as sophisticated as Our own DC.

I will make a quick comment on the ridiculous banning of Bitters for writing  "flied lice" or whatever it was.

The most innocuous comment ever in light of the fact that the Chinese may be the most powerful nation in our time.

Add to this their entrenched racism.

Add to this their population which makes them dominant globally.

In comedic terms We discuss"punching down" or up.

Bitters was punching up .

I'm not sure who banned him and we don't get too OTT on these issues here but I request the Moderator that made that farcical decision to quietly hand in their tin badge.

I would add the Clunes riots were probably in order if anyone here has ever shared a hotel lobby with Chinese tourists en masse.

Dr John, whom I respect for his intelligence, though often disagree

with,is hopefully not the person responsible .

The complainant was DLs Resident SJW.

I'm a solid contributor here.Love it.

So are others whos ideas I dislike. Does not mean they are invalid.

My point is that the censorship here is getting OTT.

Can I suggest we ban a poster based on more than one complainant , and check the track record of the whining regular Mrs Mangles.

I'll invoke Jazza here- who made some crude comments at times but lived a solitary rural life and was a man of his time.I don 't believe he ever meant racial harm but might have caused some minor offence to be taken. He was a minority ,even in his own country.

My main point is, stop the naivety ,stop the PC bans unless WELL deserved.

I love Demonland and hope it grows with our great club.

Race exists,as does religion and politics.

Can we be adults here and make valid points without recriminations or is it Commo China?

I'll defend Aboriginal Ozzies to the hilt but FFS I need an explanation.

Please Explain.

You can't beat a good old fashioned banana fritter to wash down a cheeky Chinese meal. Ice cream, cream, caramel sauce and some purple stuff.

I love a good Biffo rant. Should be more of them.

In fact, I have a theory. Has anyone seen Biffo and Titus O'Reily in the same room at the same time???

Maybe like Titus with an acquired brain injury.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
