It was in the first half of 2010 but who could ever forget the day when our colours were red and pink and we nicely matched the umpires. So much so that we found a new way to lose a game - by handballing to an umpire instead of a teammate.

I reckon we owe the Dogs one for that game. They kicked the last two goals and just fell in.

That's 10-12 MFC players difference in one year, with Cameron Bruce, James McDonald, Daniel Hughes and Paul Johnson no longer at the club and Matthew Warnock, Clint Bartram, Lynden Dunn, Aaron Davey, Jack Grimes, Neville Jetta, Joel Macdonald, Michael Newton out of favour or likely to be out injured...

PJ was horrendous that night.

A couple of goal-umpire decisions went against us too. Green's scissor kick and then Lake allegedly touching Bate's (IIRC) long bomb. Also IIRC, one was definitely a goal and one was a behind, so we got dudded there.

Seem to remember Danny Hughes doing his job pretty well and kicked one or two. Considering it was his first game and he only played a couple I was surprised he got delisted last year.

Bate also not in the team... that's 13 different..

Extreme!

But in a good way, mostly.

And of course who can forget Tom Scullys massive final quarter, 18 possies for 39 in total, in a game that made the football world stand up and take notice that the kid may just be an elite.

Ahhh yes... the umps in pink. Total disarray. Ugh! A shocker...

But what about the Jamie Bennell screamer on the wing in those wet conditions as well as his turn-around, spin-around, run backwards snap at goal?? Showed class in the wet conditions...

I was majorly peeved - two interventions by field umpires to cancel out goals to us, plus the crucial turnover on the members' wing late in the final term when Bartram mistook an umpire (in pink top and blue shorts for chrissake!) for a team mate.

We were royally screwed that night. Let's hope we repay the 'dogs what we owe em - which is plenty.

The worst one was the 2nd quarter where CB handballed straight to one cos he was hot in the midfield. They grabbed it and turned it around for a goal. Terrible.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
