Nik Nat challenges?

Read a headline in Monday's West Australian. WATT'S UP? NAITANUI SEEKS NUMBER ONE DRAFT PICK POSITION. I had to chuckle. Sure Nick took one big grab but 4 kicks and 4 handballs, 1 goal is hardly putting him in a position to challenge our Jack.( 19 possessions for 3 goals.) I for one was always convinced that Watts was much better prospect than Nat. He has natural skill, pace, while Nik is athletic but as raw as a footballer can be. I believe young Stefan Martin is becoming the equal of Naitanui as a ruckman so we didn't need him anyway. No, Jack Watts is going to be a superstar.

I don't know why its always one players great, the other is a dud.

Nicknat is going a great player. Jack's going to be a great player

Both are good. Watts is smoother. NN is more dynamic, if less prolific.

We drafted Watts because he is a Victorian. Nik Nat is/was a massive flight risk. Imagine the speculation if he was in Scully's current predicament. Although a return to the West would have been a greater worry than a detour to the West Sydney Ramraiders.

So sick of the comparisons. Both great players with a great future ahead of them. Watts plays for Melbourne, Natanui for West Coast. Get over it.

Hardly a surprise this, on a demons forum.

I think the comparison that interests me in this is more the NicNat, Hurley, Watts one... All talls, all taken first few picks. Nicnat obviously plays a different position. But it's still fascinating.

For mine, at the moment Watts has now caught up with Hurley, particularly considering he's quite a lot younger than both those guys... and BOTH Hurley and Watts are marginally ahead of Nicnat who did a few flashy thing ages ago, but has been a quiet achiever since.

I think at the end of finals the story will be VERY interesting. Hurley playing for a depleted Dons side might slide further, Watts could monster his team into finals, and Nicnat could actually play a part in a WINNING final. Will be fun to see the scuttlebutt.

I didn't say he was a dud, I just reckoned that he was optimistic in believing that he should have been #1 draft pick in view of his performances compared to Jack's.

it doesnt really matter, if wc had the number one pick they would have taken naitanui anyway.

none the less, on a needs basis watts was perfect for us and niknat perfect for them.

i am biased, but will always think watts is going to be twice the player naitanui is just purely for his footy brain!

Good analysis of NikNat on FC tonight. Basically made a couple of points - firstly that because what he does is generally so good, it's not noticed that he only does it a few times a game relatively speaking.

Second is that he still has a ways, being replacement for Cox and all.

God, seriously. I read Bigfooty (probably too much) and the comparisons between NN v JW (v MH) and Scully v Trengove v Martin (v Fyfe) drive me insane, mainly due to Melbourne supporters that constantly have to be validated that our player is/will be the 'best'.

I liken the Watts v NikNat debate to the Scully v Martin one in this way:

Martin will win Brownlows

Scully will win Premierships

relative to...

NikNat will take mark of the year

Watts will take 15 marks a game

Siren goes . 4 points down .40 metres directly in front . Who would you chose? Anyway , the club took Watts partly because Nic Nat doesn't want to live here and Watts didn't want to move .

We only want blokes here who want to be here .Like Scully .

Nik Nat also laid 9 tackles and his ruckwork is awesome. Still prefer Watts tho. Both will be greats for their club.

There are tons of debates like this – especially on US sports sites.

Effectively I think WCE are very happy with Nik Nat and we are very happy with Watts. Jack is starting to hurt teams on the scoreboard which makes him slightly more valuable at the moment IMO.

Watts and Tomic - maybe Watts can add the headband???

Pointless discussion anyway... we have Watts, they have Nik Nat - end of story.

Daniel Rich is better than them both at the moment...Watts and Nic Nat

Midfielders grow on trees, Talls do not.

And Rich has hardly blown the world apart this year. Good player though.

I don't know why its always one players great, the other is a dud.

Nicknat is going a great player. Jack's going to be a great player

Totally agree with this post. Both of them are freakishly talented and should be great long term players for their clubs.

Daniel Rich is better than them both at the moment...Watts and Nic Nat

You're joking... Redden and Rockliff have both arguably surpassed him in the Brisbane midfield already. Rich is a forward running long kicking nothing. He has one attribute and I wouldn't trade Rohan Bail for him.

Crazy comparison - why does one player have to be downgraded to boost the others? Watts, Naitanui and Hurley are all exciting prospects and will all be great players. I'd be excited if we had Naianui or Hurley at the club and I'm very happy with Jack.

Siren goes . 4 points down .40 metres directly in front . Who would you chose?

Jordan McMahon?

Watts is developing in to be the player we thought he would when we drafted him. Nothing else matters IMO.

The most exciting thing about that is that they have been controlling the rate at which he is building himself up (slowly) and Bailey contends that he will be a 25% better player next year - looks like the sky is the limit for Jack.

Daniel Rich is better than them both at the moment...Watts and Nic Nat

Watched any Brisbane games this year?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
