No, but it does say that he and his camp are willing to have mud thrown at them without vigorously fighting back.

I am simply asking why?

Its because it doesn't matter what he says they will write what they want and people like you won't believe him regardless... He spoke to me about the media conference that the MFC media manager wanted him to do (also the fact that got into the media because he hadn't told anyone about the conversation with our media guy although I clarified how that could of happened)... He refused not because he had something to hide but because he thought it was a bad idea... He said I'll be giving one of these every week because the media keeps writing about it (although when we had a be this topic nearly got off the front page of the forum) so do I have to address every rumour that is published?? (smart kid) I have stated my position at the start of the year. I haven't signed anything blah blah read his press conference.

Does that answer your question

You can't call a kid a liar and then clap him 3 years later.

I don't think he has lied, and, assuming he signs for us in September, I expect great things from him at the Dees.

The end.

Thats cool, just struck me as a tad melodramatic.

A sincere thankyou to RobbieF and Range Rover for making this thread so entertaining over the last week.

I never thought i'd laugh so hard in a Scully thread.

Jeez, your argument is simply all about what journalist infer from their 'inside words' isn't it?

You trust them implicitly.

Good for you.

I don't trust them, because I know how journos operate and I know how sources can be nuclear.

I am trusting the actual words of Tom Scully.

You are trusting those that whisper quietly into the ears of hungry journalists that realise there are no repercussions to their stories being bullsh!t.

Look at Hutchy people, the guy gets so much wrong, is constantly demeaned for being wrong, yet he owns his own media company, hosts a footy show, and is constantly 'making' the news.

If Tom is lying, he will live a professional 'half-life' (to steal a quote from Harry Potter) and be maligned and quite toxic for some time.

If Barrett/Schwarz are not right (if his sources are lying) they can hide behind those sources.

You clearly have an irrational hatred for journalists that is clouding your judgement.

I like everything you have written but the only comment I will make is that when his managements advised Tom of their strategic timeline choice they would have been negligent if they had also not told him what the repercussions of the choice would be . It is little surprise to me that this has erupted as it has. The minute you combine a complete end of contract decision timeline with the knowledge that GWS will be throwing huge dollars for him to move, the outcome we have now was inevitable.

Compare that Kreuzer who received a GWS offer, received a Carlton offer - immediately rejected one - took the Carlton one and story over - except he is being hailed as a Saint.

So whilst I support Tom and choose to believe everything that TS/Velocity and MFC have said and am hopeful he will stay, the timeline is TS/velocity's choosing and therefore so is the uproar that has ensued.

Well maybe not ... maybe Barrett & Ox just want to believe their "source". They now have a hell of a lot riding on this Scully Saga.

Demonland will want to believe their "source". Other may prefer to believe their "source".

Its not just Ox and Barrett, it includes Stevens, Sheehan and McGuire

In my line of work (Civil Engineer working in Construction Industry) we can make allot of money working FIFO (Fly in fly out) to the remote sites/locations in the states north west. I prefer to stay closer to home/the city and my salary reflects this more comfortable lifestyle. It's often commented that FIFO work is something you should do while you’re young to get ahead and set yourself up for life. I think the FIFO vrs City work in my profession is a similar predicament to what Scully is dealing with currently.

Interestingly I think Scully has followed the coin, I haven’t done so myself. So the comments about people judging with their own values isn’t necessarily true in all cases.

Wow...so after reading this forum for years and not feeling the need to post, I have succumbed to the Tom Scully thread.

So my 2 cents.

1. @Wolfmother - Love your work mate. Not entirely sure Sculls would want to tell you "everything" if you're his sponsor though.

2. Sculls has said he doesn't want to make a decision (or tell of his decision) until end of year. Fair enough. His life, his decision, his choice.

3. This has upset many...fair enough, but that's your decision to be upset and riled by it.

4. Those that have stuck up for Scully. Good on you! You're sticking up for a young kid that is in a tough situation.

5. Those that have hung crap on Scully. Good on you! You're showing your passion for this club. Whether I agree, it doesn't really matter. It shows you give a damn about this club.

4. There is NOTHING any of us can do about the situation (unless someone is loaded and wants Scully to be an "ambassador").

5. To simplify this entire thread. Scully is out of contract at the end of the year. Scully either choose to stay with Melbourne or go to GWS.

Thats it.

Please read this.

I haven't read all the Scully thread but I've read enough over the last few days to see much of the debate is whether Scully has lied.

We've had our say on this, put it to bed. Anyone commenting on this issue in future will have their posts deleted and if they do it twice they will be banned.

Please guys, let's just leave this issue. We just don't know and we've all made our points.

Clarification: Discuss Scully all you like, it's whether he's lied that is now done. Thanks.

You and me both would advise Tom differently but he is know stubbornly going to wait (confirmed by him that he is stubborn) mainly because he said he hadn't had an offer which he was lying and he said he would wait and he won't lie about that either (don't know if I agree with his decision there but again I have spoken to him since the GWS offer was announced)

Everything he says points to him staying but waiting until the end of the year also points to taking a GWS offer as you can't announce your leaving mid season, but I don't think that's how Tom is seeing it... Hopefully if he does resign he gives everyone a bake in the press conference about doubting him

Make no mistake, Schwarz, Barrett, Stevens and others are inferring if not outright stating that Tom stared directly at the cameras on March 4 this year and flat out lied to the public and to all Melbourne supporters.

The charges are very serious and if unfounded are a slur on Tom's character and he should sue.

So why doesn't he? What is going on here?

Makes this article from March 28 kind of interesting in hindsight doesn't it ... Recruits Forced To Lie, Stynes Says

So you'll conveniently ignore the May Article?

So can we add Jim Stynes to the list of those you think are lying?

I think that now that the offer is on the table, if he doesn't re-sign it's essentially a surety that he is leaving. That's just what I think. There's no reason not to sign now because he knows what is on offer, and signing and considering wouldn't compromise his playing ability.

Sorry to hurt anyone here that thinks otherwise. And no, I don't have any sources. It is just my opinion.

You clearly have an irrational hatred for journalists that is clouding your judgement.

I'm the son of two former journos who maintain a number od relationships in their world.

There are some very unimpressive people in this world. As in any profession.

As BB59 would say - I wouldn't be putting all your eggs in the 'journo basket' - I would diversify your basket...

Just wanna say - as far as litigation goes, the only people who really win... are the lawyers.

To say Scully should be suing for libel and slander is naive in and of itself.

Ok! Let's add a new flavour to this thread...

Surprise, surprise, Mark Stevens, a renowned doggies supporter, comes out with the opinion that Callan Ward is worth as much compensation as Scully:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/ward-could-be-worth-two-prime-picks/story-e6frf9jf-1226094921348

Surely not!

Anyway, it's all moot.

Scully will stay, but even if he were to go, I'd actually be content with what we'd receive in return.

What are your values? Mine are truth, honesty and integrity.

And I try to view to life and events through a clear set of specs, not rose-tinted ones.

I've read this stupid thread far, far too many times.

RR, you have nothing. Drop it.

Your values have nothing to do with your behaviour here. Truth? To believe footy journalists is an interest in 'truth'? To be caught in the web of popular media is 'truth'...is following a value of 'integrity'? Can you hear the hypocrisy? Truth, integrity, honesty...and you hang with the media? You believe speculation? You are willing to imply 'stuff' about a player with no concrete evidence at all - on the basis of hearsay and self-interest (the media's) alone? AND you say that you value 'truth' and 'integrity'?

Seriously. It is like going to see a stripper but saying that you respect women. Or saying you are a man of science but denying climate change. Or saying you support the footy club but questioning our young man's morals on the basis of gossip alone.

The only truth here is that you value telling other people about your suspicion over 'holding true' in any way to your stated values. You are not digging. You are not investigating.

This whole thread stinks.

Why the hell did I even respond to it?

Disclaimer: I have no inside info to add to the debate, if you're after new facts skip this post, you'll only find opinion and conjecture only here.

It's really sad to see some of the comments aimed at Tom, I know that we all love the club and the emotions run high but the kid didn't ask for any of this to happen, just luck that he was in the right place at the right time. I'm definitely in the 'I believe Tom' camp but my uneducated guess is that there's still a big chance he'll end up going, for the reasons stated below.

I believe that there are two driving forces that are against us, but I get the impression that Tom would like to stay (close to home, enjoys playing with the group, blah blah blah) but the driving forces are making things blurry for him to make that decision.

First. The AFL want Scully to go (or someone of his quality), and they'll keep uping the ante and tweaking the rules. So many quality kids have turned them down, they're desperate to get a 'big' name up there and they'll do anything and change any rule to get it done.

Second. His management. I listened to that radio interview that was linked in a couple of pages back and the one thing that I took from it was clearly they're pretty keen doing a deal. One quote in particular, someone asked him about the offer from GWS and he replied along the lines of 'I would be very dissappointed if he didn't, at the very least, consider the offer.' In fact it seemed like pretty much for the whole interview he was talking up GWS.

Once again I don't believe he's made the decision yet though

Top post Jarka. Agree with most of your sentiments.

I am biased but I think leaving would be the wrong move for Tom. Being a franchise player millionaire at a new club in risky territory doesn't seem bode well for his development nor chances of team success IMO. While he is an experienced top-liner Gary Ablett must've found the going tough on several occasions this year.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
