Hawthorn were a team that certainly had some high spots during that 20 year period. They also had some not so high points during that time. And you find in Dermot's era all teams (not just Hawthorn) went on end of season trips...Even Fitzroy in its final year had an EOS trip to Bali when they wrecked a hotel. I dont know why an EOS trip was anything special because having known a number of the players of that era of Dermie, the EOS trips that Hawthorn went on were more an event of men behaving badly overseas rather than a demonstration of culture. And in the times when the Hawks were successful and the VFL/AFL system was what it was, most young players at HFC (unless you were a Brereton) did an apprenticeship of 4 to 5 years in the reserves before being promoted. They were grown men when they got to play VFL football. It was not a case of step or you get 100 ressie games. Another spin of fiction.

What's this mean?? i was talking about how & when they booked the trips. You just love a good stir don't you Rhino-Highlight of your day i suspect.

Fitzroy would not have booked their EOS trip in February for the week after the GF for many years on end like Hawthorn did.

Hawthorn expected to win flags, and if they didn't win one, they bounced back harder the next year. If you don't believe in a winning culture, Fine. But i do, and i want to get it back at the MFC. It is far easier to recruit Top Line players & keep them, when a winning culture is nurtured.

After much soul searching I believe we are seriously over rating our players.

I have two good friends 1 Hawthorn and 1 geelong member.

They constantly tell me "your players are not that good"

They sight, Sylvia 1 good season in 6, average player

Green last season his only consistant season

Davey good kick but easily taken out of the contest

Dunn average player who occasionly has a good game

Bate too good at VFL level too slow at AFL level

Rivers Solid but only an average player.

And their greatest criticism is we have not one player who can turn a game.

After much soul searching this year I am forced to agree.

Our biggest problem is probably not Endevour, attitude or culture

It is perhaps a lot more simple We are simply not good enough.

So as in the past a lot of pain appears on the horizon for Dees supporters.

I realy hope I am wrong but with each passing week it looks more and more correct.

I'd say the reason why some sides have a "winning mindset" is because they win games; not the other way around. At the very least it's a chicken and egg scenario.

And they have the personell to get it done.

We clearly do not.

Or is there something I am missing.

Yes, development.

If you could win with a team of talented kids, the Suns would be on top of the ladder.

They all need time.
