We've beaten just 2 Vic teams under Bailey

Featured Replies

Richmond - who were bottom 2 in 09/10

Essendon - who's coach was a dead man walking at the time.

Which means that 12 of his 18 wins have come at the MCG against interstate teams in which we have a distinct advantage.

Which means that he has a 4-41 record against Vic clubs and continually fails the same tests over and over.

Not good figures when your contract is due to expire.

I think that this year is seeing a magnifying of his coaching stats. Even teams that have been rebuilding don't have as damning statistics. He is in trouble. And the next month's schedule doesn't help. He should start looking for another job.

So is our Captain.

Let's not read into it too much, how many of these teams have been top 8 since he started coaching? Geelong, St Kilda, Hawthorn, Western Bulldogs and Carlton. Realistically, the only team that the MFC should have beaten, but haven't beaten that they should have is North Melbourne.

And if he had of beaten thos teams we would have been saying we should have dropped them to tank :)

how is it we played Collingwood twice and almost won both times last year ?

well that was last year, this is this year and we won't get anywhere near them in a few weeks time>

I think you need to be as well as be a good coach you need plenty of luck and DB has none !! He is snake bit, bad kama!!!

I really do believe the loss of Sean Wellman has left a huge hole !!

[censored] weak effort- if that stat is true.

Oh it's true.

There is no self-awareness here at all.

If you quietly wished Jordan McMahon to kick that goal, you cannot throw Bailey's win/loss record back at him.

We tanked/experimented/whatever-you-want-to-call-it and it was gooooood!

His win/loss record is meaningless and to bring it up is pointless.

Spot on.

"TANKTANKTANKTANKTAoh sorry Dean, you've lost too many games. You're gone." You lot have ridiculously short memories.

True to a point. Yes we all wanted the draft picks but to be honest we weren't good enough to win. Early in the year we were clearly trying to win as many games as possible but we weren't good enough to. Later in the year with some creative team selection we negated the slim chance we might have had in some games. But there must be a time where you start examinig the succees/failure of the coach/team. If we all agreed that last year we were trying every week and that this year is the same then we should look at the stats for that period and the remaining games this year. Surely they will have some relevance to whether he is reappointed. I know it is not the only factor to be considered but it will come into the equation along with gameplan, player development, fitness, attitude etc.

The point is: will his record against Vic teams improve, now that we've stopped tanking (we have stopped tanking, haven't we?)

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
