Soft and cheap 36DD!

I was at the Western Oval in 1981 to see our only win - I know what it's like to take time to build a winning team (as a supporter and coach).

The reality is that Bailey and co haven't got it - the tough decision to take is to remove them!

The soft call is to rant and rave like a [censored], great that you were at the Western Oval in 81, surely you should have learnt a bit about football then. Sack the whole coaching staff in round 2....are you serious man??? You cant just click your fingers and pump 80 to 100 games into every player, it takes time, there are going to be exciting times and frustrating times.

Was your first shag your best shag or with a bit of experience did you start to have a few tricks up your sleeve??? Let the players develop their skills.

4 years at the helm for Bailey now, and his team dishes up that crud.

Do the players still think that there is no bad consequence for efforts like that?

Other successful clubs would not accept this sort of game day debacle.

Will our club management approve that lowly performance?

Have we improved on 3 years ago, based on today?

Can some of the emerging 20-24 years old players step up?

Some decisions STILL need to be made!

You get nothing easy at AFL level, boys!

Bad quarter?!! Get a clue mate, AFL teams should not capitulate like that. What is a coach for? Why have runners? Why even bother training?! We are meant to be past the stage of this happening AT ALL, we may not have expected to win, but make no mistake the final margin is VERY flattering to us. I'm not one to panic, and have always preached patience here, but this IS a big deal.

Quick Stuie! Panic! for the love of god panic! Your just so good at it!

I don't know what people were expecting. Hawks are in premiership mode. They were a great team in 08. They have some absolute champions on their list, in the past few years they have topped up with Gibson, Burgoyne, Bruce, Hale. Even their first pick this year was a ready made player. We were playing the youngsters who need games under their belt. Yes the third quarter was disappointing, but look at the age and experience of our playing list next to theirs.

Posting that we need to sack Brian Royal after 2 rounds is a massive knee jerk reaction.

If you had a shag every week, then after 3 1/2 years, don't you think you might have picked up a thing or two?

I didn't say sack Royal, I just said I would rather Wellman, you really want to argue that after today?

The things that were missing today are things that are TRULY disappointing. Leadership, Unity, Commitment, these are things that we care about at this stage, we understand the results won't always be there, I for one did not expect to win today, but a performance like that was an indication we need to wake up.

What do you want us to do? Just expect improvement without having to work for it? Make no mistake, this club is in coasting mode right now.

It's not the players I'm worried about 36DD - it's the coaching staff and their soft supporters! It's good to see others are now also calling for action.

We need to develop a ruthless attitude - we won't get it by continually defending mediocrity - sometimes exaggerated statements force people to face reality!

Spot on...

First thing you would learn is not to finish at half time...

Sack Bailey.

I am over it.

I am over the excuses.

I am over watching my club seek to inspire but then show a lack of desire.

I am over losses like the preseason loss to Essendon and this loss.

Never in my life of following this football club have I seen a more terrible quarter of football.

Bing181 - the only dummy spits are coming from those who can't accept reality - Bailey and the rest of the key coaching staff have to go. Yes, it's tough, but success requires tough decisions. Try thinking about why other clubs have been successful!

Clubs like Richmond, you mean? Sacking coaches is not usually the best move.

You think sting was able to go all tantric without years of practice??? seriously some people just dont get it. You start a new job, are you up and running within the first week, no you are not, any boss expecting an employee to be would have a never ending revolving door of workers who didn't cut it.

FFS you are the type of supporter who will be calling for Gysberts to replace someone this week and expect a sudden improvement in the middle despite Gysberts having less than 10 games to his name.

WE ARE A YOUNG AND INEXPERIENCED TEAM, TODAY WE PLAYED LIKE A YOUNG AND INEXPERIENCED TEAM.

Your analogies are not helping your argument buddy... Do you think you would still be employed if after 3 and 1/2 years you still made the same mistakes as your first week?

I' not saying sack Bailey (yet anyways), but I'm very worried about what we're "learning".

Spot on mate, what was Hardwicks start to his coaching career like??? No wins after nine matches from memory, I reckon Richmond are happy that they didn't do what our less educated supporters are calling for a sack their coach.

They drew with St Kilda on Friday night, so their recent coach change obviously didn't hurt... and ummmm Bombers?

But no, you're right, let's just keep Bailey, no pressure, just coast along, heck sign him for 20 years right now!

Sheesh...

Unusual yes, but when they were a bad appointment in the first place? Facing up to mistakes is the first step to improvement.

Only the first part of my post was directed at you. The rest was at all the 'sack the coaches' posters on here.

Some people on here are way too quick to jump on the coaches. Look at what we are trying to do. We are trying to get a group of players coming through together. Unfortunately that means we are playing young 20 game kids on 100 - 200 game players.

The Hawks have experience all over the ground. Yes the third quarter was terrible. But I would rather lose by 40pts to a premiership mode team with the kids than have extended Robertson, Bruce, McDonald's contracts and had a 15pt loss.

Mate your argument is falling down as you assume that each player that played today has played 22 games each of those three and a half years which you keep mentioning.

Neale Daniher after 3 seasons put us in a Grand Final. Bailey has 13 wins to his name for the same timespan. I'm sorry, but you've got to realise at some point that that's the end of it, and I'm at the end of my tether.

Maybe MFC should have subbed Bailey for Viney at halftime!!!

As heart breaking as that loss was, we all as fans and supporters of the club need to keep standing with em no matter what. They do however need to stand up now, there are no more excuses, they are at the stage when they should be starting to really gel as a team, in hindsight though on the day they make it to the grand final and win it (and thats not far away) i will be standing at the G with the rest of you, with tears of joy in my eyes and saying it was all worth it. ;)

Young and inexperienced ... what all of them? I counted a fair few experienced players out there in red and blue jumpers who barely gave a yelp when Hawthorn stepped it up.

We capitulated. The fish rots at the head.

Oh ok, so it's about the players now? You can't just change the argument to suit you. Bailey MAY have taken us as far as he can, simple fact is he will have the rest of the year to prove he has not reached the peak of his game.

Aside from Tapscott (who was one of the better players today, despite turnovers) all the players have been around the club long enough to learn Bailey's game plan and structure.

Stop making excuses for today 36DD, the last 3 years were for excuses.

Duly noted mate, and totally agree about Robbo, Bruce etc..

I just think it's time for there to be pressure on Bailey, it's been long enough, a capitulation like today should draw attention.

Absolutely. It was right to give him another year at the end of last season. I was disappointed (hoped for 10 wins last season) but not overly so last year, considering the 2 Collingwood games and the Bulldogs umpires debacle. If we don't make at least that mark and he gets another year there is something seriously wrong.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
