NAB CUP INJURY LIST: ROUND ONE

And so it begins again ... everyone who has followed these pages in the past would know that I have an issue or two with injury lists that aren't ... um ... well ... entirely accurate. According to this, we have 42 players fit and available for Friday night. If that's the case, then Jack Fitzpatrick who was on crutches and had one foot in a moonboot last Friday has recovered from whater he had wrong with him. FWIW, here are the official injury lists of the teams to play this week in Adelaide.

Melbourne

Robbie Campbell (achilles) - 2-3 weeks

James Frawley (pectoral) - 10-12 weeks

Michael Newton (broken wrist) - 6-8 weeks

Ricky Petterd (hamstring/back)— 1-2 weeks

Adelaide

James Craig (hamstring) - TBC

Chris Knights (corked quad) - available

David Mackay (groin) - 3-4 weeks

Andy Otten (ankle) - test

Sam Shaw (back) - 2 weeks

Bernie Vince (knee) - 3 weeks

Will Young (shoulder) - 4 weeks

Port Adelaide

Travis Boak (appendix) - 2-3 weeks

Jason Davenport (shoulder) - 2-3 weeks

Hamish Hartlett (hamstring) - 1-2 weeks

Ben Jacobs (glandular fever) - TBA

Matthew Lobbe (dislocated shoulder) - 10 weeks

Andrew Moore (groin) - ongoing assessment

Ben Newton (ankle) - ongoing assessment

Simon Phillips (shoulder) - 2 weeks

David Rodan (knee) - indefinite

Jay Schulz (hamstring) - 2-3 weeks

I look at the weeks next to Chip's name and get a little bit sick. :(

My link

"The young All Australian backman says there is a faint chance he'll be fit enough to face the Sydney Swans in the Demons' season opener against Sydney after successful surgery and a previously flawless pre-season.

He has also been buoyed by the recent news his layoff will be between eight to 10 weeks, rather than the minimum three months that was originally projected."

He hurt himself nearly 3 weeks ago so really it should be another 5-7 weeks, not 10-12 shouldn't it?????

Note: 5-7 would be consistent with 'faint chance for rd1"

Yes - especially since it's about two and a half weeks since the original diagnosis of 10 - 12 weeks and the time expected out hasn't changed.

What if it's 10 - 12 weeks next time?

you conclude the person that wrote the injury report doesn't know what they're talking about?

i'll take the lad's own words off the club website as posted above thanks

I think that's the point Alpha's making in the OP.

now that i look at the calendar, the time between his injury and rd 1 is 9.5 weeks.. if it is an 8-10 week injury shouldn't that be more than a 'faint chance'?

This is good.

We can't make, and don't want to,,, any excuses to be the underdog.

No Scully, Jones or Morton on Friday night.

Anyone doubt that the credibilty of the injury list is in tatters?

I tend to agree. I don't think we will see Frawley back for an awful long time. And Scully with knee soreness? :? Must be training too hard. I hope it doesn't become a long term absence for him also.

Scully & Morton named, are they not playing??

I know Jones is out, but the other 2 would / should be playing

Morton out with a finger injury 6-8 weeks.

10 players on the injury list. Not good to start the year with 1/4 of the list injured.

If you're referring to playing games, the season starts in late March. It also goes right through till September. Not the time of the year to be playing players "at all costs". I don't really see our injury list as being much different to other clubs'. And no real long-term injuries either ... touch wood.

Having both Jones and McKenzie out of the 'guts' isn't ideal, but once again, good chance (especially at this level) to see who might step up, and give some of the younger players a taste.

Bummer about Morton. Presumably he can still train ... and do weights. Can't take a trick!

We should be used to it by now, really.... :(

I'm keen on Tapscott to get fit and firing.

Let's take a step back.

Our core group of KEY players are: Jamar (All-Aus), Frawley (All-Aus), Green, Jurrah, Sylvia, Moloney, Scully, Watts (purely to train up), Rivers (the General down back) and Davey. That's the 10 players I feel we NEED to have out on the park each week. Of those 10, one is missing through injury.

Is Morton a substantial loss??? No - but his longevity is vital for the FUTURE.

Is Fitzpatrick substantial??? No - but we want to give him games.

All those players listed with soreness... Scully, Jones, McKenzie et al... will all be playing Round 1 of the season proper but will bypass some of the pre-season games because that's just what teams do!

Let's take a bit of a breather. We still have a team.

I have been hearing stories that Tom won't be playing Friday night in the NAB cup. Something about knee soreness. Any one know any better?

He is going to Sydney to check out the property market.

Dont even joke....

Why not? The reactions of most of the posters to Fat Eddies musings have been a joke and not even a funny one. Why can't I have my place in the sun?

Not funny in the current climate, Wasn't Ricky Pettard checking out the GC same time last year ??

I liked it!

Time to lighten up a little>

I actually got the feeling someone thought they were being clever and funny with the use of Kevin Sheedy's initials.

I may be wrong, but even the use of capitals, as it was written "Knee Soreness".

We'll surely know by Friday.

wonder if Eddie will laugh if they sign Dane Swan, seems likely

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
