A good story but a great matured attitude on a young man's head.

Fantastic, & a insightful young man with leadership character. He can see the thing that would de rail ours & his aspirations would be young talent electing to go elsewhere.

He's stated his intent Now to set the tone. A great decision to pick this young fella.

What I love most about this article is the comments at the bottom... You can just about hear the fear of opposition supporters in their petty little comments.

We have succeeded in people already having a opinion about our great club something that nobody would have done 2 years ago, they see where we are headed and are trying to attack us already after 1 improved season it's going to be a great time to be a Melbourne Demons supporter over the next decade.

i do feel that the "cost of living" allowance is a moot point now, given how expensive it is to live in melbourne too...

Give Andrew a buzz they are paying for it - I'm sure you will get a fair hearing.

Well then again maybe you wont - they could have hardly called it an "extra" salary cap compensation allowance.

I remember Brock McLean sprouting similar lines. Good to hear but doesn't mean much.

Sometimes i am amazed at these quotes. Brock was quietly shown the door, he had no choice. It was dressed up as though he wanted to leave to increase his value, and what did we get - Jordan Gysberts, potentially one of the top 50 players in the AFL in the next ten years. And where is Brock - struggling in Carlton reserves.

We should have more faith in our decision makers.

It is the second time the powers-that-be at Melbourne have successfully sucked in Carlton to our great advantage.

I hope it continues....

Well said - i totally agree. I continually see the "water cooler" talk about AFL in the offices as constantly underestimating what is coming from the Demons. Supporters are constantly in denial.

Mind you the AFL professionals are far from in denial, They know exactly what the MFC will produce over the next 5 to 10 years, and they don't like it one little bit.

Listen to Eddie - he knows....

Roll on 2011..

Doesn't bear to think about.

The cards would've fallen differently and we likely would have not ended up with Grimes.

Instead we may have taken someone like Brad Ebert, David Myers or Veszpremi.

I agree with you DC however I think an MFC player will go for the cash in the next couple of years

Especially if you think the competition for your spot is getting too tight e.g Mclean

As I said before I would for an extra $300 000 x 3 years = $900 000

I think your point is very valid however don't forget GC only picked up 8 out of contract players. I think we will be lucky and none will be picked up.I can see some Sydney players being targetted due to being already settled there.

Yeah but also dont forget GC17 had 1 bite at the cherry, GWS have two.

If they take more than 1 player per club it starts to cost them something, not that that will stop them ... only make them think twice. However, with the 2nd player at least they will be some form of "negotiation".

Lets hope Sheedy stays there at least another 2 years. Enough to scare away a few players I'd think

He couldn't get the coaching job at theDees- therefore may have a vendetta.Maybe he will try to gain an outstanding young player from us- but by gee wehave plenty and more to come..

The book is called 'Robbie'. Great read.

Just saw this article in the HUN, Dec 31 I know but surely the should be using the new emblem in such articles?

There's a copy of "ROBBIE" on ebay for $10-

So true. Plenty of comments like 'he'll be 40 before he plays in a premiership side' and so on. A lot of supporters do not rate us, and don't like us. Lov 'it!!! They are in for a surprise.

We will also have a much better chance of holding on to Trengove, Scully, Watts and co if we simply win more games.

Brisbane is a good example of a side that chose premierships over money.

Also, don't kid yourself that we are that underrated and flying under the radar - in the latest Herald Sun poll we are clearly leading the votes on who will be the big improved in 2011.

It does induce a bit head scratching when you see that Essendon is sitting second on the list.

Not sure where people think their improvement is going to come from.

No, the Lions players just went on ridiculously back-ended contracts that have crippled the club since then.

good point, but apart from Des Headland they kept the core of their winning group together for 3 years.

If i had a choice of $400,000 in a guaranteed top 4 side verses $800,000 for a bottom 8 club..i'd go for the chance at the flag.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
