Bulking up the forward line

With Cam Bruce gone and the money will save, should we go after players to help our forward line like Jack Anthony and Jay Neagle?

They are not the best players around but in our age wanted.

With both able to help the forward line and make it look more dangerous.

Jack is a dead eye dick in front of goal and Neagle a good tall mark all this would help out LJ and the small forwards we have.

Ive got to disagree, imo there two average players at best having the two of them would just make things even worse.

I have the belief that an up and running fully fit forward line with players we already have can get the job done and be more than capable of kicking winning scores, with like of Jurrah, Green, Petterd, Dunn, Bate just to name a few talls.

If we are winning our fair share of ball through the middle and getting it into the forward half efficiently, there is enough talent up front to do plenty of damage.

A Jamar going forward is another option, at times. Fitzpatrick looks a good type, might be a year or two away from AFL yet, but is that worth punting on a Neagle? I don't think so.

Yeah he is raw but hopefully we see him a bit sooner than 4 years. Any sort of physical change could occur within that time frame.

I suspect you'll be correct. I'm hoping his agility might allow him to prosper a little earlier than some of the taller types who rely on physical strength over anything else to become effective.

Firstly, you should never trade for or draft a player that you don't believe will be in the best 22 (if it's an 18 yr old, you hope in the future they'll be a best 22 player). Neagle and Anthony are both average players who would not be in our best 22.

Secondly, our forward line doesn't need extra depth. We only lack one very specific kind of forward, the 196cm+ big-bodied crash-packing forward. We will not find this in Neagle and Anthony. It's a myth that we don't have enough forwards... Green, Jurrah, Watts, Pettard, Dunn, Bate, Sylvia, Wona, Bennel, Tapscott, Maric, Fitzpatrick (+ Davey, Jetta etc) say hi.

I think I may have read somewhere that we offered Bruce around 300K a year. (I stand to be corrected)

So we have the money to play around with, but Neagle is not the answer. Complete spud and is most likely going to be re-drafted by the bombers if anything.

Big Jack did kick a big bag in '09, but Collingwoods midfield - I hate to say it - can make almost any tall forward look good. We have enough 'lead up' type forwards already, what we need is a strong bodied player, who can can make a contest and pinch hit in the ruck.

Jack is worth considering, Neagle is a definitive no. None of this really being related to Bruce, just about what's available and what will be best for the list.

Go for a guy like Thorp with no strings attached or pluck a likely junior type from the draft or elsewhere to develop. We could live without one at the moment.

Pass on Neagle. Wouldn't draft Anthony, but would have no problem putting him on the rookie list if he was keen.
