Schedule for next Monday

7.05am 49ers @ Eagles

10.30am Cincinatti @ Chiefs

Tough defensive battle. Some stupid clock management late in the game from both sides. An eerily similar game to last year's wildcard where the Niners could have sealed it but the Cowboys hung in till the end. Key takeways:

- Pollard's injury changed the game. No doubt DeMeco Ryans' job was way easier when he went down.

- The Cowboys needed to stretch us down the field more. Lamb was always a threat.

- Not Purdy's best game but managed it reasonably well. First start he hasn't thrown a TD in though.

- Kittle's juggling catch was probably the key play of the game. Thought Dallas had us hemmed in on that drive.

On to the NFC Championship game against the Eagles, Hurts will stretch us downfield. On the plus side I think we won't face a defense as good as Dallas again. I still think the SB winner is coming from the AFC though.

Bengals D is humming at the moment. Chiefs is very solid too, especially at the line, if you face them Purdue will have pressure in his face all game.

Eagles for me have a decent D, you just need to keep up with them.

Yeah that plus side was a bit of a reach in that we probably won't face a defense better than the Cowboys but the teams left aren't far off. I actually really like Philly's front 7, Brock can expect the same pressure.

If I have to pick right now I think Cincy have everything in place at the right time, it can't be said enough how good Joe Burrow is throwing the football. Extremely accurate in the tight windows. Never hurts to have a dart thrower

Burrows throws in the snow were first class.

Bengals 28 @ Chiefs 30

49ers 24 @ Philly 21

Niners 28 @ Eagles 20

Bengals 31 @ Chiefs 13

Well here's hoping the 49ers get through to the SB for those fans here on this thread ... titan/uranus,  DemonDave,  Go the Biff & layzie are all fans but I believe @Whispering_Jack and a few others that have been on this thread are also niners supporters

For what's it's worth I'm picking the Eagles and I'm sure Dappa Dan is out there somewhere trying to boot Philadelphia home.

Not sure there will be much separating the teams at the end of the match anyway

The other match could be a close one as well.  Cinci seem to be playing with house money right now so they can win at KC

9ers 1-6

Chiefs 7-12

Eagles 36 - other team 28

Chiefs 24 - Bengals 32

Reckon chiefs will need Mahomes to be moving 90% to stay up with the bengals, I think Bengals jump them and hold them off.

Niners will need their D to play as good as they have all year, they have the talent and it’s key to them winning, but I think the Eagles offence will play well enough, I think this game will be lots of small possessions with big plays to get into red zone opportunities.

Purdy and Hurts will face pressure like no tomorrow and will be interesting to see how they both face it.
TBH this game will nearly be won by the abetted O line

In my opinion Eagles and 49ers are very evenly matched and stacked in many positions, except when it comes to QB. As good as Purdy has been he doesn't get heaps of Velocity on his throws so you'd be hoping Kyle can scheme guys open with some cushion. He's also going to get hit at some point by this Eagles front. It will be a defensive battle and whoever does better on first down will win.

For Philly I'd be hoping Hurts has got past his shoulder concerns. He's going to experience his share of pressure too. A lot being made of the crowd noise being a factor, it all depends on who gets the better start where that is concerned. Would love to see us get through but as a tipping man I give the Eagles the edge.

The AFC title game is going to be a cracker. Bengals have so many weapons and I think they will get it done. Tips below:

49ers 17 - Eagles 20

Bengals 30 - Chiefs 23

That’s what I meant by the Oline of either team is key. Which ever gives their QB the time could decide the whole game.

If the eagles Dline hold your run game to minimal gains that will be a huge advantage. But if you can’t split their front 7, the games yours to win.

Niners 20  Eagles 27

Cinci 18 KC 28

Rough start. Didn't challenge the Smith catch and now Purdy out, going to be up against it with Josh Johnson in.

Defensive penalties very costly and then the turnover just before halftime. Mountain to climb for the Niners.

Philly have executed today. Jalen has looked impressive, Eagles have made plays when it's counted. Their D has balled out, make no mistake this team is the real deal.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
