I thought Skipper was good against us fwd-ruck. He's not much use as a 1st ruck replacement for Jamar so I wouldn't rookie him for that purpose. If we rookie him as fwd-ruck I believe we can't play him because we can't elevate him unless LTI, mid year elevation (or Bruce doesn't sign?), same applies to Newton if we retain him as rookie. I wouldn't want to use an ND pick on him.

It's a massive roll of the dice.. Funny timing :huh.:

agree!

hopefully it comes unstuck for them in two years...we get roughead or someone to play full forward.

These delistings represent a big steaming heap of garbage that I hope we stay well away from. And I would rather play Spencer in the seniors on one leg than see Skipper in red and blue. C'mon guys, I thought we'd moved on from chasing this sort of garbage a few years ago now. If some people can't see a place in a flag team for Nathan Jones... Wade Skipper. Wow.

Feel sorry for Damien Carroll (former Springvale and Casey player and brother of Demons' supp. list player John) who was just appointed coach of Box Hill Hawks. Many of the players delisted formed the backbone of the Box Hill team last year and now it look like he's going to have to rely heavily on Kyle Cheney and David Hale.

Really. Hardly any surprises there. All underperformers and they are all out of contract.

and youre going to replace then ALL in one hit...from a well thats half dry ??

Its not whether theyd warrant delisitng..but all in one go ?? Theres probably 2-3 that might have warranted another year.

Quite frankly I dont really care...hope they come a cropper big time. The wholesale nature of it has caught many by surprise.

Its arguable if Skipper was a real underperformer. Probably played pretty close to ability and the job given him. displaced because of Hale no doubt.

After the glamour recruiting of Buddy, Roughy and Lewis in 2004, 2005 and 2006 have been ordinary years.

2005

Pick

6 Dowler - Gone

14 Birchall - Good choice

18 Bailey - Gone. Bad Knees

22 Muston - Gone

38 Tuck - Gone

2006

Pick

6 Thorp - Gone

24 Renouf - maybe

33 Morton - maybe

40 Kennedy - F/S - Gone I think

56 Moss - Gone

Tuck will be Rookied

Replace what?? They were players the club did not rate and werent pushing for a role. They need to regenerate their list and seek out future players. If you have made the final assessment on a player or players why give them another contract.

And you have answered the Skipper question.

The wholesale nature of the changes are definitely expected given the Hawks have underperformed and the bottom 9 or so on their list and its the time lists are culled.

Tuck will be Rookied

Tuck will only be rookied so Hawthorn are seen as a club to be doing the right thing. PC/PR stunt pure and simple.

You might realise you need new tyres...but it pays to get to a tyre shop before jettisoning the old ones.

Theres a lot of positions to fill.. and its recognised and not a buyers market at present...its not the what..its the when.

11's a lot thats all

edit

correct myself...10 when Tuck rookied

irrelevant why..he will be.

Do you have a source withing the hierachy of the club...or just your gut feeling there

I know he will be but for what reasons. A big mistake if he is rookied, A spot will be taken up by a guy who was drafted in 2005 at pick 38 and has only managed 20 games.

Still if the guys registers 3 strikes and is delisted how does this paint the club ?

Hey, Beau is a fine, gentleman's name!

Why Beau wouldn't be your Christian name would it?

Secondly -WOW -what a delisting list... they must think that Hale is going to be a superstar with the sacking of both Taylor & Skipper. Muston whom starred against us last year was the biggest surprise to me and I thought Dowler was worth a punt..als do they must think this draft is very strong to delist so many at one time?.

He may not even be rookied yet:

From the Herald Sun:

Mark Evans: "Travis will continue to train with the group until March 2011, which will give him the opportunity to be considered for the final spot on Hawthorn’s rookie list and the club will continue to support Travis financially at this time,”

cant remember who...on SEN this arvo ..on the Harf Hour mentioned hed be rookied.

if hes not..hes not...then back to 11 !! lol

Bailey certainly has bad knees but he's not gone yet. Still on the Hawks' list.

Kennedy is doing alright at the Swans.

You might realise you need new tyres...but it pays to get to a tyre shop before jettisoning the old ones.

Relax. They are spare tyres. A couple of them were small sized with punctures.

First, what's a Christian name?

Is it like a given name, except for people who love Jeebus?

Also, Beau Muston would be a nice rookie selection.

There's a few others there that I'm thinking, hmmmm hmmmm... nah...

I see no fire Sale

Its simply a club ridding itself of loose ends

An out of contract player who has limited upside and has already squandered the chance to prove he is above VFL level IMO is a liability to your list

Their would be a faint hope that GWS or GC17 might throw a lifeline to one of them to fill a need at best

We have players currently on our list that will not have their contracts renewed shortly

Skipper and Kepler Bradley were separated at birth, no thanks.

So Hale will definitely be mainly a ruck focus at Hawthorn, which is a surprise, as his ruckwork is one of the biggest knocks on him.

3 ACL's says.....

Thanks. I knew there was something else.

Brent Renouf might have a say in that. And if Bailey can tape his right knee back together then...

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
