Greater Western Sydney Player Raids

WIth the story that Andrew Swallow is a big target and that Mitch Clark and Rhys Palmer are also on the agenda i was wondering who is out of contract after 2011?My link

Scully is the first one that comes to mind, but he seems a pretty loyal type of guy, so hopefully he will sign on quickly.

Who of our big name players could be targeted, who are out of contract?

BTW is there something like GWS get two years of uncontracted players or was that something about PSD or Rookie draft?

And yes i know it is a long way away but over the next four months is when GWS are allowed to sign these such players and with the rumours already coming out i thought why not set the ball rolling.

They do get to take players over 2 years, so any player out of contract 2011 or 2012 is up for grabs.

Those coming out of contract at the end of next year are:

Sylvia, Scully, Gysberts, Morton, Wonna, Maric, Martin, Fitzpatrick, Gawn, Cheney

I hope they take Morton.

That is absolutely ludicrous. You're better than that, mate.

I hope our club is strong enough that NO ONE will leave. We've fended off the Gold Coast (Frawley, Rivers, Petterd and even Bruce all saying no) so now it's time to fend off the rampage that will be GWS.

Guys like Morton, Gys, Gawn, Fitzpatrick and Scully are all imperative to our development as youngsters going forward.

Thanks for that ox

Sylvia has to be our first signing out of those as soon as possible.

It would be a disaster to lose him

Yep, the only 2 players that the GWS would genuinely chase hard and would genuinely hurt us if we left would be Sylvia and Scully.

Like Davey, Jamar, Frawley etc, these 2 are critical to our success going forward, and should be signed on 3 year deals hopefully

This could be a reason why Bruce should NOT get more than 1 Year If he stays.

Sometimes I think an IQ test should be required before being allowed to join Demonland.

No point culling off half the posters.....

Everyone are out of bounds...plenty of premiership medals there...

But would you let in the upper or lower half?

scully was missed in that list!

Or he is the second name on the list...

That seems naive in the extreme. All GReaterWesternSydney has to do is wave big bucks in front of any Vic. footballer and they will go. The AFL is regulating the departure of Vic. footballers to the expansion states so the locals don't rise up and revolt. Whether we can hold onto an uncontracted Scully remains to be seen.

I think our FD has already shown how thrifty they can be when it comes to matters of this ilk. I will again back the FD to make the right decisions. GO DEES !!!

Ohk, if they were to take one of our players, I would want it to be Morton.

big difference in attractiveness between living on the gold coast and living in western sydney.

GWS is only a spiral torpedo away from Melbourne's nightspots and AFL culture.

You're the administrator, just delete him

Pretty confident it will be the same story as this year, it seems we have a committed young list who can see the bigger picture and why it's truly worth hanging around.

Beat me to it Steamin. Our FD managed the process extremely well in 2010, and I have every confidence that they will do the same in 2011. Besides, I very much doubt that any of our young guns would be lured away by big $s to play for a 'nothing' team, when they have the prospect of playing beside their mates in a premiership team.

Scully's family have bought a 2 bedroom unit close to the city for TS and his sister to share. There's no chance that he will be leaving Melbourne.

We are Melbourne.......They are Greater Western Sydney (whatever that is) which would you choose when you REALLY think about it. Kevin Sheedy can only say so much. B)

That may be one of the most misguided posts I've seen. Are we to believe that because someone in Scully's family bought a place, and that they didn't even buy it just for Tom, that he'll be committed to the demons for more than 12 months?

That purchase means absolutely nothing to Tom's future.

Ah... You must be unfamiliar with the little known parents-buy-property-in-melbourne-therefore-cannot-leave-for-interstate-club rule.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
