The Josh Caddy Thread

This kid has been highly rated for a while now, but I expected him to go around pick 15-25.

He looked a little slow at times and that pushed him back behind the real athletes.

After his testing at the Draft Combine, he has proved to have exceptional speed and endurance which has probably been hidden by the nature of him being an inside player who ends up on the bottom of packs.

He also managed to finish as the best performer in the new Handball test. BP has mentioned his performance and spoken of how important he personally rated this test for judging cleanness with the footy, moreso than the kicking test.

He also mentioned that we interviewed Josh on the final day, indicating he may have entered into consideration.

It has been mused that he may have entered into top 10 status with his performance at the Combine.

I think it more likely that he is now on the cusp. He could easily end up being one of the few considered at our pick, even though he is not exactly a 'needs' type.

It is often said that the difference with a lot of the great players is how clean they are with the footy.

Gotta say he's another I'd be happy to end up with.

Any opinions?

How tall is he out of interest?

Sounds great as a package - a ball extractor with awesome hands who is also very quick and is hard by nature.

Sounds a lot like a young man we have already ... and I'm saying one more can't hurt.

Like the sounds of this kid and if our desired KPP isn't available, jump on him.

Good work E

I actually watched him play a couple of times with Marcellin (his old school) and the Knights.

Too good for school footy and was serviceable against the Suns in one of the matches I saw.

Not overly tall, lovely kick but there was no....sparkle? I don't want to malign the kid, but we've probably got too many players his size ....

Yeah, I know what you mean. Not much pizazz and I'm not certain on his 'hurt factor'.

He's a meat & potatoes type, but I did read him somewhere saying he'd always been used as an inside type and really wanted to work on his outside game and breaking the lines.

He has the tools.

I guess if he had the flash & creativity side sorted, he'd be taken by the Suns in the first 3.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?

I would like to improve the outside features of my game. If I could improve my position to receive more ball it would complement my inside work. Also, I need to improve my decision making when being tackled and release the ball quicker.

Sounds a bit like Nathan Jones, I think we have a few inside mids and probably need a few really good finishers a bit of class outside the packs.

Just going by that short passage could be deceptive, but even if he is like Jones, one thing he has over him is proven speed.

Caddy scored 2 x sub 3 second 20m sprints.

If Jones had that burst of speed it would make him a much better player.

What did Jones do, and what does he do now?

My preference would be to secure a tall forward in this draft and it would seem that at pick # 12 we are well placed to snare a good one. However, it would appear that there are about half a dozen mid sized players likely to be taken in our range and if the quality is there, why not?

I suppose that leads to the question whether we could collect another pick in the late teens or early 20s. Problem is nearly everyone else will want the same thing and these draft picks come at a cost.

The question will be whether we want to pay.

Totally agree.

I had hoped Jones would go because I think he would get that sort of compensation.

Warnock is maybe not enough, but we may be able to include our 2nd round pick & get something else back.

Hard to say.

I doubt either Hawthorn or the Blues would want to part with their 1st picks, but that's what we should demand.

The more mids pushing into the top 10 the better IMO, that'll push some Talls out to 12. The better Quality Talls, all the better.

If we pickup another pick,,, 18/19 or 21/22,,, I'd be rapt & then that may change things re the tall at 12.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
