Hypothetical; Pick 12 is on the table!!

From that Mundy thread I have thought, ah the hell with it- we have enough kids now, the youth quota is well and truely filled- we need a mature, big and skillful body to help these kids.. with the recent departures of Junior mac and a few other names unsigned, if we make finals i'm not going to sook if we get pushed out by a more physically developed team.. comes with the territory of drafting only youth...

With that said, what kind of names could we hope to lure if we put pick 12 on the table? If you think a "sweetener" may be needed to get the deal done, name who and why this wouldn't have a negative effect on the team..

Many a club has made the mistake of trading away their early picks for On the move players, only to wear the Egg, right on their foreheads.

And many a club have come back & apologized to their members for trading their future away for some misguided adventure of a quick & simple fix. If it was that quick, & that simple, every club would be chasing that player.

We've got 'ta keep on keeping on.

What if Jones wants to move on.... another experienced mature body bites the dust..... can we keep replacing with kids? I understand there are some "delicious" prospects in this draft... but how nice would it be to get one who has been fastracked 5 years and can not only play but make an impact round 1. Only for someone who would be in our best 18 and a forward, of course..

There is little available that I would want for us. There are some ok names one the trading table, but all come with an element of risk being whether attitude, money demands or a checkered injury history.

Salopek/Walker are available, but I would rather move a players around then part with pick #12.

In the spirit of the thread - Jarryd Roughead.

I think he signed a 4 year deal and still has 3 years to run so Ruffy is very unlikely to be going anywhere... unless he and the Hawks both agree to a deal. Both parties may come to the realisation that he will never reach his full potential while living in Buddy's shadow (see Jack Riewoldt). OR Kennett's massive ego might force him (and the football department) to gamble at the trade table to secure another flag before he leaves office next year. I have spoken to a few hawks supporters and none of them are happy with Jarryd and were open to a Warnock + pick 12 trade scenario. I would even throw in our 2nd pick if it got the deal done. Now all I need to do is convince Clarkeson to play ball... anybody got his number?

Could not agree more with this post. Not saying that we shouldn't trade for experience at some stage, just not yet. Of course, if we could get a gun youngster with 8-10 years in front of them that would be different but that is a pipe dream. Not sure there's anyone who's been discussed that I think would be an appropriate use of pick 12, especially given the strength of this year's draft.

Would not have a clue about the worth of pick 12, but I will say this - Geelong when they filled a hole through trading (Ottens) - were a little ahead of where we are at at the moment.

So I agree with Deemolition that if, say, a Jesse White came along I would be going hard to get him but filling a hole in a couple years time is perfectly acceptable when we are better and have a clearer idea of holes in the 22.

It's exceptionally unlikely, but as a hypothetical why not?

The hawks are short on KP defenders - I'd do pick 12 plus Warnock. The hawks probably want more but draft picks are overrated by the majority. Not so sure I'd put in the 2nd rounder as well though - that's two or three very late draft picks we would have for at least a couple of years.

I don't think we're in that position, Yet, to be able to afford to give 1st Rnd picks away, 'because we have many 1st Rnd players'. Those players have not proven anything just yet, just that they can merely play AFL.

Lets wait to see IF we get some of these, to stack up to being Elite A graders,,, before we give up the building blocks..

I think we supporters are getting a little ahead of ourselves by taking for granted, that these Kids will all come on & achieve great things... The Excitement of hope is great,,, and we're all starving for good news @ Melbourne,,, but don't be fooled by that trappings of a bit of media flattery. We've proved NOTHING, JUST YET.

Richmond have unearthed some guns in the same time as our 'boys' have started a career.. Carlton have some great players, but are short for depth of quality,,, yet they can attract topline players at seeming will. If they get Mundy & Tarrant, & Trengove,,, they will have skipped well ahead of our schedule, and they could still grab more in coming years.

IMO we need to try to attract Trengove to our side, & try to stop teams like Carlton, from further strengthening their midfield (Mundy) to our misfortune.

Pick 12 and Gysberts for Brock Mclean and Chris Johnson

what about Brad Miller and Dan Bell for there first 2 draft picks? If they havn't read the news and realised they will be delisted i think they will jump over that.

The best Key forward available is what we need.

It is looking like there will be a few to choose from. Any thoughts on Jack Darling?

Is that supposed to be funny?

Nice input, good stuff... pretty counter-productive and moronic to belittle a hypothetical. If you dare not to dream Mr then save it for another thread.

I am just highlighting how well these trades normally go. The fast track of first round picks for proven players very rarely works. In fact your hypothetical is that good you dont even provide an example yourself on what option may be possible. Unless a ridiculous deal falls in our laps stick fat with the kids. Worry about mature age deals when we are ready for a tilt.

In hindsight, probably a [censored] idea as many are contracted. Roughy would have been good, but hes a no go apparently..

Just so tempting to skip the developement stage and get a big body in there round 1 to compliment the others, more a matter of noone appropriate available for mine

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
