The bain of my life is my keyboard. Tap tapping away only to look back and half a dozen letters are missing.

Am I the only one this happens to ? Yes, I should replace the keyboard. But I hasten to add that Daffy should be spelt Daffy.

No, happens to me all the time. Re: Daffey Daffy....see what I mean !

You stated that "experts" had Darling sliding. You were then asked who these "experts" were. Your answer was Daffy (couldn't care how he spells his [censored] name) and Quayle.

We've established that Quayle has earmarked Darling as an earlyish pick by her suggestion that the Eagles would have him therabouts at pick 4.

We've also established that you speak sh.it. Often.

Authors here listed as staff writers. Darling mentioned in relation to Carlton (pick 18) & Sydney (pick 21).

Not that I claim this as substantiating any facts mentioned earlier. It does indicate further evidence of a predicted Darling slide and the potential that he will be available should the MFC be interested.

Again, I hope he does and that MFC are.

You had me at yawn with your suggestion of Darling & Bate being anywhere near similar.

I'm not surprised considering your depth of understanding is rivalled by most puddles.

There's quite a bit of debate re "best available" and "type". Another dimension is "sure thing" and "X-factor". At pick 12 do we go for someone who will in all likelihood be a solid AFL player or go a bit more "California or bust"? I reckon picks in this range start to get into the conservative safety first range. too early to risk stuffing up but not early enough to get an absolutely guaranteed player. You've got your Nathan Jones and your Cyril Rioli.

I'm sick of all this rhetoric.

Can someone just ask a question I'm allowed to answer?

Btw, anyone know where I send my application for the defensive line coach position..?

That's a pretty clever line.

Where did you pinch it from and why the hell did you bother replying while Jurrah was going nuts in China?!!

Back on topic (if I may) I suspect that a number of clubs including our own will shy away from Darling on the basis of the no dckheads rule.

With respect to the no dckheads rule #2a. Being involved in an alleged "sex romp", does this: -

a/ activate the no dckheads rule - therefore ruling him out of consideration for drafting in the ND if available

b/ mean that we have no dckheads on our current list ?

From what I've seen of him and read (excluding off field activities*) he looks a handy player WJ.

Finally, I think this might be worth discussing. Particularly as many here look to add a "need" / "best available" with pick 12. My point is if he is available ( & regarded at the best available) when pick 12 comes around, should we pick Darling up instead of turning a blind eye because of a reported off field activity ?

* Does this confirm a poor character; one whom may carry extra baggage ? For I'm not entirely sure.

Imo the "sex romp" is no real indication of anything.

Not necessarily an indication of a bad character.

I can't think of many teenage boys that wouldn't engage in the same behaviour if given half the chance.

The incident with him being assaulted worries me a lot more, ie. how it effects him psychologically going forward.

Also that there were other unconfirmed whispers of dckhead behaviour prior to him getting belted, making it not too much of a surprise.

Just came across this little snippet in an interview with Emma Quayle on BF:

3. The Slider v The Bolter - Regarding Jack Darling, do you feel his height will restrict him holding down a key position and where she feels he may be drafted, and who might be interested?

Jayden Pitt could be the bolter this year as an underdeveloped player with a big upside ala JMP last year. What are her thoughts on him and could he become a top 10 proposition post Draft Camp?

I don’t think top 10 for Jayden – maybe top 20. He is a very smart and instinctive player though, not unlike Fyfe in that way. A natural.

Re Jack, it’s so hard to pick at this stage. Maybe Eagles would look at him, same with Brisbane, but I’m not convinced of either. Speaking to him at the draft camp, he was adamant that he could play midfield and seemed frustrated that he had been pigeon holed as an undersized key forward. That said, there are some offfield issues that concern people about Jack, and I’m sure he would have been grilled about them at the draft camp. He is obviously recovering from a head injury too – clubs would be going right through that information and making sure he’s going to make a full recovery before deciding whether to go for him or not.

It seems Darling sees himself as being more than capable of being a midfielder/forward in the same mould as I think a lot of our supporters see Tapscott fitting in.

Also, I think the head injuries will cause him to slide, possibly well beyond our first pick.

Yes, I remember reading that also and remember he said he could play midfield too, but I read it more that he was frustrated at being "pigeon holed" as a key forward when he feels his midfield capabilities are being overlooked. Not that he thought he was more suited to being a middy.

In any case I think you are right about 12 being a tad too early at the end of the day. If we had a pick 17/18 this year and assuming he passes medicals/psychos etc I think we'd snap him up.. alas we don't.

I think getting a clean bill by the shrinks & medicos would have him going earlier than our pick.

The uncertainty about his recovery is a big part of what will have him sliding.

Darling is very different type of player to Tappscott.

190cm is sufficiently tall to be key position forward if he's talented enough (Fev 191cm, Neitz 191cm, Carey 190cm, Pav 191cm). He has the build of a key forward as well. Tapscott is a stocky built midfielder who has good goal sense so can play at half forward.

I don't think Tapscott is a mid. Not yet at least.

A HFF right now.

And I know he is 10cm shorter than Darling, but both aggressive, built HFFs who throw their weight around and can go into the middle.

190cm is short for a KPF and I won't budge on that.

I'm not saying he's not capable of playing that role, but he is still the absolute minimum height to be considered a KPF.

Do you think this percieved dikcheadness will have a bearing on where he goes?

Yeah, but that's part of the shrink's analysis.

I'm sure they do all personality profiles, etc at the Combine.

It will tell a story.

What's a KPF? Is Jurrah a KPF?

Does it mean you can take a contested mark - Green, Petterd and Sylvia can take contested marks in the forward line, are they KPFs?

How many KPFs do you need? How many is too many?

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
