We've established that Quayle has earmarked Darling as an earlyish pick by her suggestion that the Eagles would have him therabouts at pick 4.

We've also established that you speak sh.it. Often.

Authors here listed as staff writers. Darling mentioned in relation to Carlton (pick 18) & Sydney (pick 21).

Not that I claim this as substantiating any facts mentioned earlier. It does indicate further evidence of a predicted Darling slide and the potential that he will be available should the MFC be interested.

Again, I hope he does and that MFC are.

There's quite a bit of debate re "best available" and "type". Another dimension is "sure thing" and "X-factor". At pick 12 do we go for someone who will in all likelihood be a solid AFL player or go a bit more "California or bust"? I reckon picks in this range start to get into the conservative safety first range. too early to risk stuffing up but not early enough to get an absolutely guaranteed player. You've got your Nathan Jones and your Cyril Rioli.

Back on topic (if I may) I suspect that a number of clubs including our own will shy away from Darling on the basis of the no dckheads rule.

With respect to the no dckheads rule #2a. Being involved in an alleged "sex romp", does this: -

a/ activate the no dckheads rule - therefore ruling him out of consideration for drafting in the ND if available

b/ mean that we have no dckheads on our current list ?

From what I've seen of him and read (excluding off field activities*) he looks a handy player WJ.

Finally, I think this might be worth discussing. Particularly as many here look to add a "need" / "best available" with pick 12. My point is if he is available ( & regarded at the best available) when pick 12 comes around, should we pick Darling up instead of turning a blind eye because of a reported off field activity ?

* Does this confirm a poor character; one whom may carry extra baggage ? For I'm not entirely sure.

I can't think of many teenage boys that wouldn't engage in the same behaviour if given half the chance.

The incident with him being assaulted worries me a lot more, ie. how it effects him psychologically going forward.

Also that there were other unconfirmed whispers of dckhead behaviour prior to him getting belted, making it not too much of a surprise.

I don’t think top 10 for Jayden – maybe top 20. He is a very smart and instinctive player though, not unlike Fyfe in that way. A natural.

Re Jack, it’s so hard to pick at this stage. Maybe Eagles would look at him, same with Brisbane, but I’m not convinced of either. Speaking to him at the draft camp, he was adamant that he could play midfield and seemed frustrated that he had been pigeon holed as an undersized key forward. That said, there are some offfield issues that concern people about Jack, and I’m sure he would have been grilled about them at the draft camp. He is obviously recovering from a head injury too – clubs would be going right through that information and making sure he’s going to make a full recovery before deciding whether to go for him or not.

Yes, I remember reading that also and remember he said he could play midfield too, but I read it more that he was frustrated at being "pigeon holed" as a key forward when he feels his midfield capabilities are being overlooked. Not that he thought he was more suited to being a middy.

In any case I think you are right about 12 being a tad too early at the end of the day. If we had a pick 17/18 this year and assuming he passes medicals/psychos etc I think we'd snap him up.. alas we don't.

Darling is very different type of player to Tappscott.

190cm is sufficiently tall to be key position forward if he's talented enough (Fev 191cm, Neitz 191cm, Carey 190cm, Pav 191cm). He has the build of a key forward as well. Tapscott is a stocky built midfielder who has good goal sense so can play at half forward.
