I didn't mean they were similar players. What I meant was that McLean ended up as unfulfilled potential, as I'm afraid Bleeze might, but in his case I think he has been cruelly struck down by injury which has robbed him of his elite potential - his pace and his skill.

I hope I'm wrong, but at the moment that's what it looks like to me watching him at Casey

Who's Bleeze?

I know you are entitled to your opinion but are you sure you are facing the right way whilst you are watching Blease, I was at Visy where the ground was heavy and it was blowing a gale, Blease did some really good things, considering he is 6 or so games back after a serious injury without a pre season behind him...sigh....

INteresting that two of our 'private school' recruits lack intensity - Strauss and Watts. Its a pet theory of mine.... Particularly when compared to a Dustin Martin type who plays as if his life depends on it (It probably does)

Judd and Goddard both went to Caulfield Grammar and they go alright.

Luke Ball went to Xavier and always puts his head over the ball. But I know where Jmac is coming from. They have different junior programs that don't always expose them to the right coaching.

Or they are both just 19 and in Strauss' case has had problems with this shoulders so is easing back to match fitness and of course Watts who is running himself to a standstill in the games and gives away quite a bit of weight and muscle...........of course they are tree hugging, latte sipping, quiche eating Private School Boys........you could draw as many comparisons as you like....all players are different and at different stages of development and fitness

Useless theory.

It holds together like a dropped pie.

Tapscott, Scully and Trengove are all private school boys as well, so I see no real correlation between attending a private school and a lack of intensity.

Back in the mid '80s a school friend joked with me that Melbourne were not tough enough because we were full of solicitors and accountants where his team the tigers was full of builders and plumbers

Was funny, if not anything else

Prejudice and stereotyping of the worst kind.

Dale Thomas and Alwyn Davey attended public schools and are both as weak as [censored].

James McDonald and Luke Ball are Old Xavs and are hard at the ball. Poor theory

James McDonald never went to Xavier, he just played for Old Xavs.

And Scully isn't a great example of a PS boy. He got a footy scholarship which enabled him to go to Haileybury, but his footy persona was well and truly set, it wasn't moulded by the PS system.

The AFL is full of ex APS and AGS school kids. Without naming names (just too many) Brighton Grammar, Caulfield Grammar, Scotch, Wesley, Geelong College and Grammar, Carey, PEGS, Yarra Valley Grammar, Trinity Grammar etc. etc. are all well represented at AFL level.

I think intensity is a personal thing! That Scotch College "chap" Campbell Brown goes OK I think!

I agree where Watts is concerned being a Brighton Grammar boy. The school is known for it's softness. Playing them in Amo's it's well known they are soft. But I think he should be judged after 3 or 4 preseasons with more bulk. It is taking time for him to adjust which is why i think he should be playing at Casey. He has the right tools to become a good player, he just needs to cope with pressure better which comes with experience.

Not sure about strauss. Has had injuries but may miss out on a spot in Casey's finals team (if its still the 12-10 rule! but again another preseason and we will know more!

Don't most of the rugby union players come from private school and university backgrounds?

120kg front row forwards may lack brains, but i don't think they lack intensity.

Tapscott and Trengove both went to a private school (Price Alfred / Albert?) in Adelaide as I udnerstand it.

Incidentally Luke had a minor shoulder injury which caused him to be rested for last week's Casey game.

Should be right this week and will be advised if he is going to Adelaide vs Pt.

So Brighton Grammar is known for its softness is it? Fairly provocative comment I would have thought....

So you would advise anyone who wants their kid to turn out soft, to fork out a bit of extra money and send him off to Brighton, would you?

Never seen such much drivel on Demonland. "Softness" what a load of old cobblers.

From where I sit no one who gets to be No.1 draft pick is soft.

For that matter I doubt there is anyone who plays AFl that is soft.

Some players are in and under types and others use their skill and finese.

Go to a AFL / VFL game and stand on the fence, see, hear, and feel the physical nature of the game close up.

Then tell me Watts or any one else is "SOFT".

I do not believe it.

Watts might be many things but SOFT! NO

Are you saying that if he is over his injury he will play against port or making a general assumption due to the fact that he was from SA??

Jack Viney also goes to the same school that Tapscott & Trengove went to.
