Both had better individual games last week, except Jacks last quater was very good this week.

Not sure if there were any other eligable players putting their hands up like Hurley did last week.

They can't be too far away surely...

Thinking further ahead; another 25 touches for Scully wouldn't hurt his chances for the rising star award.

Watts: 11 kicks, 2 handballs, 8 marks and 1 goal. AND A HITOUT!!

McKenzie: 3 kicks, 13 handballs, 7 tackles.

Jordie would be a better chance this week. Possible as he's played some consistent footy over the weeks.

That would be a hitout to advantage would it not?

He was third man up in our F50 at one stage in the 2nd qtr I think? The ball went nowhere for another ball-up. Uncertain.

Every season, once it gets down to the last 5 rounds, they award for consistency, not the game they played that week.

I reckon that'd be a shame. I'd like to see one of them crack 20 touches so at least THAT week you could say it was warranted.

Another vagary of the system. I love following it, but geez it's broken.

Jeff Garlett kicked 6 for Carlton on Friday night think he will get it.

Good call.

Good call.

He'll probably get it but it isn't a good call. Jeff had a better game this week but has been underwhelming leading into it.

Jordie deserves it more, he got beaten to the nod a few weeks back by Phil Davis who got his on sustained form not an indiviual game.

Give me a Jordie over a Jeff any day.

EDIT: which is not to say that RobbieF's call is not good, just the selector's call if they choose to bypass the tackle machine.

no chance for the boys to get rising star nod.

watts pass to dunn in the goal square in the last qtr was awesome...but then i couldn't believe Watts missed that snap at goal in the last qtr...

watts is still great to watch...he will either stuff it up or do something great..

It's a nice idea but is never going to be a "fair" system that always awards the best player(s). By very nature of being first or sedong year players there aren't going to be many polling big brownlow votes. More likely the best first/second year or young players will be the ones consistently getting games and being solid players for their team. This could mean you haven't had a massive stand-out game until this stage of the season but could still be in the best four or five young players in the comp.

It's why the brownlow medal is probably the greatest "player of the year" type award in any sport. Yes, it's the umps that give the votes, but it's done consistently, the same way, every game. At the end of the season you might think automatically of the high-profile players who might have had 5 or 6 unbelievable game, but there's often some other bloke who polls 5 bests, another 5 twos, and a couple of ones. Being in the top 3 players on the field in 10+ games in a 22 game season is a pretty impressive effort.

Having said all that ... Scully is up there for the award this year. Tregove will be a gun, Shaun of the Dead (Jordy) is a tackling machine and Watts is slowly getting there and showing great signs. All are in the best 22 players that qualify for the award (even on this year's form alone).

You mean that missed snap that was going straight through the middle of the goals if not for the Richmond defender marking it on the line, while running back with the flight of the ball, or are you referring to another snap at goal.

I actually think someone needs to get into Jack's ear and just tell him to get a bit more selfish when he's close to goals. Actually i'd say someone needs to tell him to "Kick the bloody thing when your close to goals!!!!". He was 15m out from goal in the pocket and tried to hand-ball back into the corridor when he could have just had a shot (albeit on a tightish angle) himself. He needs to have confidence in going for those shots because in a couple of years he will be EXPECTED to kick those, not handball off to someone else.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
