None of this "will be good to get some games into him", or "he needs the game time and he'll come good with the experience". Who's in your current best 22 (alright, three emergencies are allowed)

Feck... massive apologies to Sylvia and Grimes.

Form at the moment makes me question his inclusion.

Apparently Warnock is tearing it up at Casey and I dont think Rivers is a lock in in the backline and has not been a standout to date.. At any rate its line ball atm.

If you are going to pick a best 22 right now, (to theoretically play Richmond) then you can't have injured players, so Grimes and Petterd should not be considered.......also I would say the form of Jurrah and Morton is down at the moment

Clearly you have some issues with Rivers.

Rivers has a had a pretty solid three to four weeks of football. Who in the backline apart from maybe Frawley has been a standout

to date? Collectively they have done a great job and Warnock was the one who became iffy, especially with his disposal.

Clearly the FD agree with this as Warnock has been playing VFL football as of recent.

I thought you were the first one to jump to the FD's side big Rich?

The thread sub-title makes it pretty clear, I'd have thought, that this is a hypothetical assuming full list fitness. The game is to identify our full strength team at the current stages of each player's development. As opposed to the hypothetical Rnd 1 2011 or Grand Final team.

This is a very difficult game, and it only gets harder if you fast-forward to next year and consider that some young players will have developed to a point where they demand selection.

B: Bartram Frawley Garland

HB: Grimes Rivers Macdonald

C: Scully Moloney Davey

HF: Davey Watts Sylvia

F: Petterd Jurrah Green

R: Jamar Trengove McDonald

Int: Bruce McKenzie Bennell Wonaeamirri

Emg: Morton Bate Bail

Problem with Rivers since he had the awful injury run has been athleticism. Did he have enough to matchup reliably on a key forward? could he take those great marks he's become know for? etc. etc.

While these questions were in the air Warnock is in the team before Rivers name is put down...he's reliable, tough, does his job.

However, Rivers is a much "better" footballer...reads the play better, and uses the ball more effectively (don't care what the 'effective' stat says, Warnock's disposals are often ultra safe), therefore if Rivers answers those questions he should be in the team...no knocking Warnock, he'll play a part in our team - I just see him going up and down from Casey in the future.

So my best team for this week (i.e. available players):

FB: Bartram, Rivers, Garland

HB: MacDonald, Frawley, Bruce

C: Trengove, McDonald, Morton

HF: Green, Watts, Sylvia

FF:Jurrah, Johnson, Bennell

Fol: Jamar, Maloney, Davey

Int: Dunn, Scully Jones, Wonnaeamirri

EMG: Bail, ,McKenzie which really hurts but he'll be automatic next year - doesn't deserve to be down on form but I think moloney needs to be in the team and well he and Bail make way for Beamer and Trenners

Some may say either wonna or Bennell should miss but personally really like them being there and it allows Sylvia to get more of a run in the middle which is great

This took a bit of effort - I tried to stick with a process that allowed me to remain objective and end up with a reasonably balanced side, but it was tough. The result:

B: Bartram Frawley Garland

HB: Grimes Rivers Macdonald

C: Scully Sylvia Davey

HF: Petterd Watts Dunn

F: Green Jurrah Wonaeamirri

R: Jamar Moloney McDonald

Int: Morton Trengove McKenzie Bruce

Em: Bate Bennell Jones

I'll thought I had made it simple. And understanding what you have quoted has been proven not to one your strong points Stevie.

I said its line ball and I dont Rivers is a lock in. And Rivers has demonstrated that he is not a great disposer of the ball on a number of occasion.

The FD is entitled to its opinion and judgement as am I. Brave enough to put your own side up or can you just take misguided post shots as usual?

And for the record, both Garland and Bartram have at various times been outstanding in the backline as well as Frawley. But maybe you just me missed that. Ho hum.

I think Bennell, Bail and Wonaeamirri are virtually interchangeable (although slightly different roles), ditto Warnock and Rivers.

I hope in a year (or two) we'll be able to take out Bruce and McDonald when they retire and put in any of Gysberts, Bail, Tapscott or Blease without any downside. Same with Fitzpatrick and/or Gawn for PJ.

B - Bartram Rivers Garland

HB - Grimes Frawley Bruce

C - Scully McKenzie Davey

HF - Green Watts Sylvia

F - Jurrah Petterd Wonaeamirri

R - Jamar Moloney Trengove

I - MacDonald, Jones, Dunn, McDonald

Ok, what is "FD"?

FD stands for Football Department. Basically the coach and everyone else who decides who plays each week.

Warnock has been in the best at Casey for three weeks running. I guess that's what you mean by form.

* I don't overly rate Joel MacDonald, but yes, he's been playing well. Not in my team.

* I've included Dunn on the back of his vast improvement and Petterd's long absence, but they're interchangeable

* Bate can play, but right now our forward-line is better balanced without him. He's a tweener, in that he's not as good on the deck as a hff and he's not a true kpp marking target.

* Jones is honest, but lacks class. Right now I want Bail's pace and run and I prefer McKenzie's contested footy.

* Morton is lucky, but I like his flexibility.

Looking forward to Tapscott, Blease, and Gysberts staking their claims.

6 weeks ago I would never have thought that I'd be putting Dunn in our best 22 today, but I reckon he's doing enough now to make me put him in. Same goes for Bartram.

Right now I put Rivers in over Warnock but that's only because one of them's in the AFL side and one's in the VFL side. Personally I'm unconvinced either way for the long term.

Can't find room for Bennell. MacDonald is playing really well and I reckon his run off half back is crucial, Jurrah's not in form right now but is still a best 22 player, Petterd played more than well enough when he was in to get back in, Bail's run and pace, as well as 50 metre kicking, IMO is more important than what Bennell gives us.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
