Unless Grimesy has made a miracelous recovery (please please please let that be true), that injury list has failed miserably.

Mind you, it's still the smallest it has been all year, which is great to see *knock on wood*.

Jordan Gysberts (back) test

Rhys Healey (hamstring) 3 weeks

John Meesen (ankle) indefinite

Ricky Petterd (shoulder) season

Dees website states Jnr will miss this week. And the injury list is a tad longer too.

Sorry Jaded, see my other post. Bit longer!

I'm shocked!

Herald Sun writers are just monkeys with typewriters. Poor monkeys don't know how to construct a proper injury list.

Was going to mention this in another thread.

Not that anyone here cares since most have written him off, but Juice did a quad training during the week. The list says 2-3 weeks. 7 weeks to go in the season... Is that it for him? My mail is that he was going to play until he hurt himself, too.

Let's try to avoid the "good timing on the injury" smarminess if we can...

It also happens to be the longest injury list of all of the AFL clubs and doesn't include Brad Miller who pulled out of Casey's team last week because of back soreness.

Miller must be favorite to win the Demonland Missing Player of the Week now.

You hope guys like Healy, Hughes, Miller and Newton can get back on the park soon, these 4 more than likely will not be on our list next year but you hope they can play good footy for Casey and get another chance at AFL footy.

3 of them are already not on our list and the other soon will be off the list.

Your mail is appalling. As was extensively covered in a number of threads last week, Newton was put back to the rookie list when Tapscott returned 2 weeks ago through Casey 2s. He was and is ineligible for senior selection.

I'm confused with the whole rookie thing. Can someone explain our current situation please?

Jordie is a rookie who was made "the" player mid season who can play without the need of a LTI.

Spencer has been elevated due to the LTI of Meesen.

Newton elevated due to Petterd's LTI.

That's how I thought it was at the moment, but didn't see the article about Newton being put back on it.

Cheers in advance for clearing this up for me.

Hughes is on for Petterd. Newton was on for Tapscott.

They don't write articles for the demotions, I suppose it puts the player in something of a negative light. Obviously it's documented somewhere for the AFL and Jesse Hogan (Age Journo) tweeted that Newton had gone back onto the rookie list for Tapscott a couple of weeks ago.

EDIT: Oh, and just noticed the other error. Spencer isn't elevated for Meesen. Meesen is on the rookie list too. He is/was elevated for Gawn so with his scheduled return this week we may just be left with Hughes elevated for Petterd.

Also, Jordie McKenzie is on the senior list by virtue of the "mid year rule".

So it's:

Spencer (for Gawn)

Hughes (for Petterd)

McKenzie (by the mid-season rookie rule).

I don't know that there has to be a direct correlation with who goes back on to the rookie list based on who they came on for. I.e. I don't see why we can't send Hughes back to the rookie list instead of Spencer when Gawn returns.

I wonder the same thing Nasher. I seem to recall coming across this same question last year and I have a gut feeling that we can pick and choose who is demoted when injured players return but that is based on absolutely nothing at all rather than a hazy memory.

Thanks for clearing it up (?)!!!

Here's one to ponder (inappropriate thread I know), but you would assume Meesen is delisted as a rookie, what's the chances of us delisting Bell and signing him up as a mature-age rookie? This will free up a space on the list, and still have Bell on our list. He is playing pretty good footy at Casey, and hasn't had much of a chance to get some consistency in the seniors. Just a thought.

The only way to do that is for Bell to enter the draft and him to fall all the way through to the rookie list at which point we determine that he is the best player available to draft onto our rookie list at that time.

Personally, I don't think Daniel, at 26 next season, will have as much potential upside as any number of 18/19 year olds we could draft in his place.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
