Scully interviewed on SEN

Excellent interview this afternoon by Daniel Harford from Skilled Stadium.

Tom spoke very eloquently and confidently about his experiences prior to and following his selection at #1 in the draft .

He spoke of the constant enjoyment he gets in being handed a different assignment each week , and how doing the team things correctly was more significant to him than any personal achievment along the way . He noted that there was great cameraderie amongst the new breed at the club and how important it would be down the track because they were growing and bonding together both socially and on the field .

There was quite of deal of disappointment at not having got over the line in a couple of matches , and he noted that people do not recall the losers over time , even when they deserved to win .

He was asked about the difficulties he faced last year whilst trying to combine under 18 team football with school study , and was pleased with the way the MFC had managed his training requirements this year , noting that his body was feeling extremely good but with 9 more rounds to go anything could happen .

There was nothing really new or enlightening in his comments but rest assured this modest and well spoken young man is made of the right stuff and will certainly be a leader at the club for a decade .

I heard It. He speaks very well for such a young guy. Did anyone else hear Shifter talking about Jack Viney today? Geez we could be on to a good thing!

Yes Kevin Sheahan described him as ' a gun ' and said he was already playing reserves grade football in S.A. and is still under 16 .

Sounds fantastic.

Based on the assumption he wants to play for the mighty dees, what is the rule? If a club says they will use their round 1 pick on him do we have to match that or is it just round 2 onwards?

Next pick we have after the one they nominate.

Love how he made mention of the fact that 4.5 wins out of 13 means that we have under achieved. Good that the old cliches not trotted out, even some senior boys fallen into the trap.

Interesting observation re Jack. I was at the CEO's breakfast and BP and Cam Schwab recently. I brought up Jack as part of the conversation talking about GWS / GC and ways around drafting concessions and namely the father son.

BP talked him up a storm then Cam spoke about the way Todd sees it. Cam openly said that he is great mates with Todd (memory fails me but he could have actually said best mates ...anyway), he talked about how when Todd was drafted Sheedy cruised into his place and just expected Todd to go, but his folks were more interested in a club that would look after Todd and in the end he ended up at the Dees. Todd has the same expectation for Jack, he wants the club going in the right direction and looking out for the kids. Cam stopped short of saying that he was a cert to be at MFC but that he "would be surprised if he didnt".

Cam was also proud as punch of the new facilities, which i could tell he thought would help in attracting that sort of attention re club preferences.

Thought that may be of interest to some.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
