Queens Birthday

The Queens birthday clash has been great for the club over the years as far as exposure and dollars, but i feel we should do a bit more with the day.

On SEN today they were saying that there was no publicity before the game, and the Demons should promote it more, ala Anzac day and The indigenous game.

We should have TV Commercials before hand and promote it as a great tradition between the 2 clubs day, honoring both teams past players and the history of the game.

There possibly should even be a medal, maybe the Peter Moore medal awarded the the best player on the day.

Another thing they said on SEN is that perhaps they should rotate the day and give it to Carlton next year,(turn it up!!)

Just think we could do more since we have the stage.

Thoughts?

The ONLY Time these stand alone games get rotated, Is when All of them are shared around equally.

it would be great if the game was like the anzac and the indigenous game but it will never be close.

collingwood have never taken it seriously they take it the same as they do as any other home and away game.

it really has no meaning compared to the anzac and indigenous game really just a day off to watch the footy :)!!

I saw quite a bit of advertising for it myself. After yesterday's result you can bank on it that next year will go close to a sell out. That's fine by me.

The Day exists in honour of the 1958 Record attendance figure and the run of Grand Finals we had against Collingwood in that decade.

WTF have carlton got to do with anything.

My God SEN come out with real crap & Bollocks sometimes.

After being there yesterday i know one thing. Our Blockbuster Fixture is looking pretty safe into the future now. A Proud day.

What do you expect when Koutafides was in the place of Schwarz on SEN - he has to get his 2 bob in.

We should make a big deal around Queens birthday & who cares what Collingwood think. It's our day & if we want to load it with entertainment - so be it.

Maybe we can get the Queen to fly over once a year & toss the coin.

It looks great doesn't it??

Can't believe the AFL would allow it but if I think from memory this side of the ground is less adorned with sponsors signage probably due to it not being seen on television.

In any case it looks great and brings back some ownership and 'home' ground feel to OUR ground.

This board continue to impress like no other in my life time....

Thats exactly right Jack. That area has practically always been bare as it gets no tv time.

And its not the AFL's decision. Its the MCC, and we all know we are great mates again!

Absolutely.

On Bigfooty the other day someone said that only melbourne supporters care about QB. I reckon that's true. And provided we give it to a bigger club, I'd love it if they rotated the opposition to Essendon, Carlton... whoever.

When we're a good side again, it'll be a huge week, as we'll be the hunted... Our supporters will turn up in droves, and the parochial opposition ones will make it a hell of a day.

Given that we have no other big fixtures, I reckon we'd be unlikely to lose it.

But Queens Birthday is all about Melbourne & Collingwood. If the fixture is rotated then the day loses all meaning and just becomes another round.

The Queens Birthday game is Melbourne v Collingwood-who cares what other supporters think.

I don't always watch anzac day game once the pre game is over. Collingwood & Essendon do not turn me on.

The day will become huge when at Round 12 Melbourne is undefeated, if filth supporters don't roll up good. More room for Melbourne supporters.

It is Melbourne's day-somehow we have managed to keep it. It will grow with the team.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
