Time for Plan B, Dean

Plan B,s dont win premierships

Geelong have only ONE plan

Its the same plan they had in 2004/5 when their supporters where asking for Bombers head

Let Bailey develop the plan with the continual improvement of the players he chooses to implement it

We are 2 years away and there is no magic wand that can fast track players any quicker than that

let alone a whole team

Nice. Agreed. I sense a bloody mindedness in Bailey that is infusing our list.

Doesn't ease the ongoing pain.. Nonetheless, bugger it, the seed grows. :)

Edit: 2nd last para is, IMO, part of plan B - with elements (building blocks) from plan A.. :D

Interestingly this was sort of discussed on Footy Classified last night.

Lyon and Thomas both agreed that the way to approach the game (and few teams do it) is to try to dictate terms rather than being reactionary.

I think this is exactly what Bailey is drilling the team for and it will pay off when the players have developed to a point where they can execute consistently.

1858 agree with your forward line comments.

The things that upsets me with our game plan is with the exception of Watts we do not try different players in the forward line.

For the life of me I do not understand why we never try Garland, Warnock or Dunn as forwards.

They all came to Melbourne as Forwards, surely a half a game would not be to radical!

Why do we constanly flood all the forward line into defensive half? surely a couple of players left across the half forward line gives us some to kick to when the ball rebounds.

Last Saturday we had players in the centre of the ground with no one to deliver the ball to, the result they held onto the ball looking for someone and then were tackled and lost the ball or kicked to open space.

Nett result no score.

What sort of "Plan" is that?

You're right - perhaps they have to follow their men in to create a flood. Unfortunately, we don't effect a turn over quickly enough which would allow 2 or 3 players to sprint back quickly....

Geelong just rely on ALL their players to win the one-on-one contested ball and there are usually 2 or 3 outriders ready for the next delivery.

Agreed. The 2 or 3 "outriders" as you put, back their teammate(s) to win possession of the ball and create an outlet for them for the next quick transition/forward 50 entry. If it doesn't come off, they have the confidence their defenders will mop up any stuff up.

So, does a training regime consist of contested work in today's footy? I remember the old days at Nth Blacky Baptists where the coach would kick the ball out and we'd wrestle for it.

Are today's footballers too precious for this sort of work? or too expensive? is the drill too risky? Anyone know?

I'm tipping Bomber would have implemented it from his Essendon days.

Ah yes, Brisbane. Wouldnt it be great if every opponent played with zero accountability and let us run absolute riot straight up the guts all game. How easy our game would be.

I was referring to our fast run and carry through the corridor and high pressure in contested situations. Heaven forbid you disagree with my use of a perfect example of our game plan working.

Yes, they do contested work at training.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

POSTGAME: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

The Demons almost blew a six goal lead and ultimately hung on to win by three points over the North Melbourne Kangaroos at the MCG and have temporarily jumped back into the Top 8.

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
