Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Changes for next week?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to see the following changes made this week.

IN: Cheney, Strauss, Scully, Trengove, Bate

OUT: Garland (knee/precautionary rest), Rivers, Bennell, Bruce, Watts (all omitted)

I'm just thankful you're not part of the match committee. Rediculous outs.

- Bennel has had a really valuable contribution to our team. He is a big part of our future and adds something different and dynamic to the forward line

- Watts imo absolutely MUST play every game for the rest of the season if he is fit. This is a year of development for him. The quicker we get 50 afl games under his belt, the quicker he will be impacting of games.

- Bruce- sick of this suggestion every week. He is in our best 18 by a long way, whether people like to deny it or not

Garland, not sure if he's injured or not. medical staff can decide that. If he's available, then he'll be critical against Carlton's small forwards.

Rivers might be a victim of Carlton's small forward line... so i agree with you there. But Joel MacDonald is an inferior player to Rivers and should be dropped before Rivers.

Weetra gets a hard time undeservedly. The kid wasn't the most talented in the world, he put in at training and did extra work in his one off-season trying to make it and fell by the wayside like so many do. He was only 19 when he played his two games.

Newton's one and only redeeming quality as a footballer is that he has grown to a certain height. He's supposedly a key forward who appears to be petrified of body contact and who has never revisited the 'lofty' heights of his 2nd game way back in 2007 when he managed to kick 3. Do people really understand that?? He's had one game where he kicked 3. One game.

Furthermore, this myth that he gives us some kind of rucking option is mind-boggling. He's no better than Sylvia in the ruck.

From what I saw of Sylvia in the ruck he did better than what we'll get from Newton.

Newton is expendable in the ruck and it is ok to place him at risk of injury there. Sylvia is not. Miller is also expendable but I want to give Newton sufficient opportunity to be delisted at the end of the year. Bigger leap on Newton too which should help with rucking too.

How many times has Brad Miller kicked 3? He has 130 games (87 goals) to his name (according to MFC website) and still gets selected. Newton 23 games, 30 goals. Not saying Newton should be selected. Just saying that others have been given more time to how how useless they are as a KPF.

So "Can I propose bans or some other kind of sanction for ever, ever suggesting (insert Brad Miller into Inner Demon's quote" - post 117) EVER should be selected in our senior team??"

pringle you do realise that Brad Miller has played a hell of a lot of games in the back-line don't you.....

When we had Neita and Robbo roaming the forward line, Miller was often used in defense against guys like Barry Hall and Jonathon Brown.

Miller has also shown a lot more at the AFL level than Newton has. He's shown an ability to make a contest, bring the ball to ground, provide a good leading target, and a decent pair of hands. Though he has a relatively small number of goals compared to games played for a forward, he's usually received the ball outside 50 and outside of his range.

Newton on the other hand has average hands and is a very inaccurate kick. He isn't as good as a leading forward as Miller and doesn't seem to know where to lead a lot of the time. I think Newton could still offer something, and hold out hope that he will, but I would say Miller is as bad or worse than him. Miller has skills that are valuable to any team whereas Newton has no stand-out abilities IMO.

Brad Miller has kicked 3 or more goals 11 times.

I sincerely hope not. He's the single worst player I have ever seen playing for our club.

Showing a bit of maturity, could be considered to help Jamar. Maybe maybe not, others as well will be looked at for this role, but they have to have a second string, PJ.

As a long term option, hmmn, never say never.

You obviously have a great dislike for him, but he's not the worst ever.

Bennel will be looked at. He had one kick! Jetta not much better. Rivers might have to stay if Garland is out although Carlton don't have a match up for him. Miller was back to his usual self.

Honestly, the form of any running player eg Bennell Jetta would really be excused six days after the game in Darwin - not possible to asses their form at all. Every player was absolutely stuffed. Had there been the opportunity to rest more I am sure the club would have done it. I think the last chance to judge them was in Darwin, and both contributed in a very big way to the win.

i think mckenzie jetta and bennell deserve a game and maybe even watts

i think wonna should take a week or too at casey to get the fitness back up,netwon i cant see comin back

I do to, but you've said nothing, Say who comes out, & who goes in then, thats the difficulty. Maybe some would take Sylvia out, or Macdonald, or Wonna, but wonna is being readied for the big teams, IMO.

I was considering Newton when I saw Jpod getting interviewed on before the game. Plus in light of Aaron Edwards. I can see Newton getting cut from the list, then after joining a VFL side permanently, and training with them, he'd probably go on and kick 80 goals with one of those sides, then get picked up by a team with a gun midfield but no forwards (blues?) and become 2012's JPod.

Could happen?!

Only problem is that JPod isn't the softest player in AFL/VFL history.

True. Got a lot of time for the Pod.

To be fair though... Newton's far from the softest player. What he lacks is desire to push himself. He has a bit of mongrel about him, but only when it suits him.

Not making excuses though.

Newton only ever has any 'mongrel' about him when the ball is long gone and he throws little cheapies when his opponent's head is turned. I've seen him do this a bunch of times and it makes me sick.

What he lacks is the appetite for the genuine contest. He can't use his body to create position and he won't hit a contest with any ferocity whatsoever. He's soft as butter.

There is not one single characteristic of his football that puts him ahead of Brad Miller.

Again, I have to totally agree with you Inner Demon. The bloke just has no appetite for the contest. With a big frame like his he should be relishing the contest and the opportunity to exert stregnth of fullback's. Shows nothing. Why, Oh why do people keep suggesting this bloke deserves a game. He is a VFL journeymen. Leave it that way!!!

To compare the 2 is a bit of an insult to Jpod.

He went years without ever getting a chance; Newton has been given chance after chance and never taken it.

These people deserve games while we need to be competative. When Wattsy has grown his body, he'll be able to do a Schwarze.

At the moment I believe we need support in the ruck. If that be Miller or Dunn or Sylvia, or Newton/PJ, we need someone to help the Russian a little. That 'little' means the player has to have another major string to their bow. Preferrably Not a defender.

So what is the other major string to Newton's bow?

For that matter, what is the first string on his bow??

No, wait, in what way does Newton even have a bow???

I think you will find the JPod had a few chances with various clubs taking a look at him over time, but none took up the option, he could be one of those late developing players who is actually getting better with age, even now you never see him in the back half, so maybe it was his workrate that put a few clubs off when he was younger, I think even in our game he picked up one mark on the wing, the rest of the time he was parked in the forward fifty...but in a team like Geelong at the moment this is not a glaring deficiency

With all this talk about Juice having no appetite for the contest, he's starting to remind me of Jack Watts. At least Juice averages more goals per game.

The two 'contested' marks JW took against the weagles was more than Newton would/will/can ever offer.......you compare a kid of half a dozen games against....nup that's enough...this is silliest comment of the week IMO!

If only that were true. It isnt. Agree with ID on this comment.

But...I dont agree with Newton being the worst footballer MFC have ever had. He not good but he is not the worst. From the late 60s MFC have had a bevy of players who would compete for that title. I dont want to go into a naming of names as I dont think it befits the site. But I have not seen an MFC listed player in the past 6 years that would get on my list.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
