THEY BURNT THE POWER

fox sports post match coverage =fail

no song, post match with coach /players games highlights etc, for what? a replay of an epl soccer game from 1996 cmon give the fans who pay $60 a month something 1/2 hours post match is not too much to ask is it?

They are HOPELESS. Replays while the game is continuing live :o

it's fox! you want something for free? I don't know where in the world you could go for that, except to watch your boys win by a point..... Sorry drunk on a 1 point win.

I was keeping an eye on the betfair odds on Gameday Live. At one point in the last quarter, Port were $21 and within 15 minutes they were $1.35! Geez... what a relief though. It would have been so easy one Port got ahead to just give up, but they fought it out. What heart!

But how about that Brad Miller?... what a conundrum he's been for us.

Totally agree. What a joke.

Is Moloney in trouble heard he was reported???

He should get a reprimand at best... so yeah, he'll probably get 8 weeks.

It was a good bump, but they both slipped because of the conditions. The player on the other end was fine, so no damage was caused.

What's going to be the excuse of the Port scum who punched Garland in the stomach? Or Chad "[censored]" Cornes for his hit on Watts?

God I loath Port Adelaide. The victory is extra sweet because the massive amounts of tools in their team get to go home with a loss.

Edit: Foxtel is a disgrace. We play a crapload of money just so we can watch Melbourne play each year, and they won't even stick around long enough to show us the song. WTF?!

Hearts in mouth stuff, a momentous win! Brad Greens two clutch goals were absolutely game-saving, how many times has he done that over the years?

Jamar was again colossul. He definitely needs a rest or a partner next week down at the cattery, was absoultely spent in that last quarter.

Terrible telecast, so many replays shown after play had restarted, and virtually no post-game show.

A huge game for Frawley to hold the dangerous Motlop for so long, and Jones, despite his poor decision making when he had the ball for his stopping job (and a left-field choice by the coaching staff) to completely blanket Pearce.

only saw the second half...garland was hit twice...not happy about that...not sure if it was the same player twice...

good signs from the dees...even though miller kicked 5 we are still in need of a match winning forward. miller did enough to keep his spot we need more from our forwards.

jamar was fantastic tonight in the conditions...the fox commenators suggested he could be all australian ruck this year...wow...massive call...but he's doing everything right...i've never been a fan but i'm happy to be wrong.

green is melbournes best player for the past decade...end of story..i will go to war with anyone who disagrees. lol

we still need more for slyvia, jones, etc...the young boys are coming on...

frawley, garland, jamar, grimes, green, jetta, played well tonight.

Good question. I think he will go, simply because you're not allowed to hip and shoulder a guy with his head over the ball. If he doesn't, it'll be because he didn't make too much head-high contact.

He made no head contact luckily as shown in the replays. He hit him in the side as Tony Shaw said and added that the Port player was acting a fair bit for a free.

We so needed to win a close one to give the kids the belief that we CAN win those sort of games and effort will equal reward.

Cannot agree more with this, bit of a disgrace, but the actual game coverage is quite good, much better than free to air. Going on the boundary at half time (I think), and seeing some of the young indigenous boys there was a good touch, Game well called and I find the commentators call it well, very unbiased and insightful.

/Play fit players only please.

Are you referring to Wonna. I thought he was underdone, but great goal in the 3rd. All the brothers played well, esp Benny and the Jet.

so close ...so stuffed.

Agree - careless, but technically not much in it based on the several replays

Play fit players only please.

Guess you mean Wonna & Morton...tough but probably fair. Glad selection isn't my job tho.

i was watching with the sound down - what were the commentators saying when sylvia was rucking?

I recall some laughter - but he rucked with the ferocity of a 6 footer ;)

How sweet is a point?

That was a very big and important step for MFC, to win in Darwin at the stage we're at, and after playing so well down here but losing a few we could/should have won.

It was impressive in the humidity and with players like Jetta and Wonna and Morton who won't have full match fitness. And how important for Watts?

BRILLIANT, we've got little to lose in next week's game against the Cats... we'll be expected to lose and if we can play fast and exciting like tonight in Darwin, it'll be fun and another step and huge opportunity to get the best experience imagineable for Scully, Trengove et al.

Jamar was simply heroic!

Just returned from the game. No voice left. One of the great victories! I must first describe the crowd. I sat in the Melbourne section; 3 seats from Jim Stynes; just behind Austin Woenamarri's mother; Trengove's Dad up the back with Liam Jurrah to his left; and a myriad of Aboriginal people wearing Melbourne gear & barracking for Melbourne. Jim Stynes happily being photographed with anyone in sight. What an ambassador, what a legend, what a man! The Club can make a success of these Darwin games and cement a place in the hearts of (Aboriginal) Territorians. The victory tonight provides huge impetus for that success.

Four rounds of the Club song were sung with gusto before the players left the field. There will be more victories to come.

Fantastic games by numerous players "out on their feet". Davey, Jetta, Grimes, Garland, Frawley, Miller, Scully, Jones, Mackenzie, ... I was beside myself when we had at least 2 centre square contests in time-on with Jamar off the ground; then he rushed back onto the ground but couldn't get into the square in time. Port got those centre clearances (of course) as they did throughout the last 1/4. But then I saw Jamar try to walk off the ground after the game, I understood; he was buckling at the knees. He doesn't need help at Kardinia Park next week; he must have the week-off. And yes, he is the All-Australian ruckman at this stage of the season. I will mention only one other player in the midst of my euphoria; Jack Watts. In the first 1/2, he personally closed the interminable "Jack Watts" thread. He provided goals, a strong body, incredibly fast clean hands resulting in several assists, and a reliable avenue forward. Yes, he faded in the last 1/4. Yes, he still occasionally canters around the field to the wrong position looking like a lost long-legged pony. But my God, he's a thorough-bred, a champion colt, our champion CHF in 2 years time

I have one question after tonight. Like many others, I'd written Miller off but what the hell do we do with him now? He's not in the 2013 Premiership side but he might still help us get there over the next 1-2 years.

In my tipping competition I tipped Port to win because of our injuries and players coming in not being match fit. I also selected Port to be my SAFE winning team in my knock out competition. I am ABSOLUTELY THRILLED to have been so very WRONG and completely KO'd!!!!! What a gutsy effort to snatch the game back when they were out on their feet. This team has what it takes. Go you MIGHTY DEMONS.

Well I agree with almost all you have said But WHAT ABOUT B MILLER!

5 goals is a winning effort!

All that matters is we WON!

Thats what what matters on the last day in September.

We will not beat the CATS next week however we are heading in the right direction to win at Cat Land in 2011 and 2012.

Go DEES

firstly i think moloney will not get off.... he did clip him in the head slightly.

Moloney has a bad history and last time the contact looked less severe! (2 weeks i reckon)

I mentioned it in the game thread

it looks like Watts and Miller might be a good combination together....

im not sure if we keep miller next year if the gold coast want him

Jurrah and Watts might work the same if not better ...

as much as a i like miller i think we have to lose someone from the forward line.

PS HOW GOOD is bennells hands?

Benny and the Jet - Could they be our Krakours (yep I spelt it wrong but meh - they never played for us)?

How many times did they hit each other up and do it without even looking?

Edited by Rojik of the Arctic

He'll be fine! An over Zealous Gesh clone- Get ride of the Gesh!! Didnt even hit the guys head!!

What the heck was Moloney doing though? It was a vital contest at a crucial moment and he just barrelled into the Port player. Very poor leadership, I would have thought. You've gotta be smarter in that situation. If it was Jnr, he would have tried his very best not to get the head, instead Moloney went straight for it.

I love him but I thought Aussie was pretty ordinary in patches. Not because he made poor decisions or anything, in fact it was generally the opposite when he got it, but that effort in the first or was it second (?) quarter was droppable, IMO. His opponent won the ball and then ran off him, as Wona merely jogged slowly behind him. Certainly should have been dragged (but I'm not sure he was).

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
