Can either of the Skullgove twins win a Brownlow in their first year?

I know many will think this ridiculous, but let's examine what has happened so far. JT has been

been BOG at least once this year ( when he got the rising star nomination), and I would suggest was in the top three players on the ground on at least two other occasions. He could have six Brownlow votes already, and he probably needs 25 to win. We are 35% through the season. He also is averaging above 20 touches per game.

TS has one outstanding BOG (last week), and may have scored votes in one or two other games. The rate he is improving it is not impossible for him to pick up half a dozen more BOGs, plus some other top 3s. Anything is possible with these two.

I'll finish with this comment. Are the Skullgrove twins as good players in their first year as one Brad Hardy? Well he happensto be the only (I think) first year player to win the Brownlow

I know we shouldn't put unnecessary pressure on these youngsters, but what does everyone else think?

Mike Sheahan and John Anderson on the Hun online were saying that there have been no better performances in the their first 8 or so games from 1 and 2 picks than Scully and Trengove. They also felt it was too early to say one is better than the other.

Clearly the Press are starting to take notice of these two young guns. (Thank you again Jordan McMahon. B) )

There is no reason why either or both could not be prominent in the Bluey count. FWIW, I think Jamar would be leading it.

Whilst I am as excited as the next Dees supporter about these two and anything could happen, Brownlow talk is a bit much for me when I see Ablett & Judd go around each week.

RR could well be right, the Bluey might be more within reach. Not the Brownlow for mine. Hope I'm wrong. :)

Yeah, unfortunately, there is this guy called Chris Judd running around in blue. Scum bag of a team, but quite a decent player.

Also over in the west, there is another big man called Sandilands, hes a shot at it too.

But it may not be out of the realms on possibility, that they can win the overall tally for the Dees though. However, my money is on Jamar also to win our bronwlow vote.

Maybe, he certainly deserves to from the pact he has had on the team and the opposition this year.

My only reservation is that purely tap ruckmen generally do not poll well. Off hand, the last I canthink of winning was Gary Dempsey although he was more dominant around the ground than the Russian. Peter Moore also. Off hand I cannot think of any ruckmen recently winning it

the other thing about the Skullgove twins is they have had such extensive and continuous publicity that it has to have an effect on the umpires' awareness. It is a question I guess whether thisis positive or negative awareness

A Brownlow? No.

A Bluey? Unlikely.

The Rising Star? Definite chance. If Scully keeps his form up he'll beat Naitanui (or at least he should).

Haydn Bunton, Sr. did it as well. I'm not holding my breath while messrs Judd, Ablett, Griffen and Black are still tearing it up.

I'm keen to see how they fare in the brownlow and especially the bluey. I feel Brownlow votes are hard to come by without a reputation, but as number 1+2 draft picks they might be a chance to grab a few. I certainly hope we manage to get votes in our close losses to Collingwoood and WB. So far in our wins this year - Brisbane game should see Trengove in the votes, Richmond - maybe Sylvia, Adelaide - Frawley and McDonald. And in our close losses to Collingwood - Davey and Petterd, WB - Scully.

Thats correct

Bunton also won it in his second year

Interesting to note that with some luck the innaugural winner Carji Greeves could have won the medal 4 times instead of just once as he finished 2nd so many times

But Ivor Warne Smith fans are glad he didnt

We will get an indication of Scully's future brownlow aspirations on the votes he recieves this year

Some players attract votes more than others especially high possesion players like midfielders

If either of them, from here on in, had a season that put them in line for a Brownlow... They still wouldn't win it. The umpires wouldn't allow it because they're not "names."

One of those awards. You have to lose one first, to win one.

Big call. Massive call. Good call Gary.

They also felt it was too early to say one is better than the other.

Yup. No telling. Scully has greater highs and lows, Trengove more balanced. Can't split them at the moment.

JMac for mine. Frawley and grimes dark horses. But Jamar would be deserving, and i sprobably more consistent at this early stage.

A Bluey? Unlikely.

Bad call, unbelievable call, out-on-a-limb type call, no need to make that call for the time being, tighten_uranus.

:P

Don't mind me, I couldn't help myself. It's all your fault, Dappa.

God I hate the way Hutchy prefaces his 'calls'. Always OTT.

I still doubt they'll play well enough for long enough to win the B+F. McDonald, Moloney and Jamar are the three contenders IMO.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
