Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Good to hear you are now backing down on Gysberts ... but sad to see you wont give Blease a go.

Ahhhh well suppose 1 out of 2 aint bad.

You still clearly have no idea.

No one has backtracked.

I also would keep Gysberts, but we now have the benefit of having seen him perform at AFL level.

I have great trust in our football dept, but you miss the point that 45 put so eloquently:

you trade an established A grader for a mid 1st round pick that hasn't played an AFL game, any day of the week.

A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

Obviously if you have other information that tells you the player will be much better, then you take that into account.

Just keep twisting words to try to come out on top.

One day you might convince someone.

Blease & Gysberts have shown nothing yet & could be busts.

If you traded them for Boak it would be an absolute win.

Nothing guarantees Blease or Gysberts will be as good, so I'd do a straight up swap in a heartbeat.

Why don't these comments surprise me coming from you. But I can see the irony ... again.

Sorry but I've twisted nothing! I'm only quoting what you & your mate said.

Both of you where prepared to trade before you had seen them play ... LMAO

Look it good you now got Gysberts off the table. but sorry I cant agree with ... "you trade an established A grader for a mid 1st round pick that hasn't played an AFL game, any day of the week. A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush."

All depends on what you thought of the two in the "bush" and what you would have to pay for the "bird"?

Why are we trading for more small players? I really don't get you guys.

Gray has resigned, and Boak...he might not even crack the best 22 with Scully, Trengove, Gysberts, McKenzie, Blease, Tapscott, Davey etc.

We need talls. Seems like you guys want smalls.

agreed!

even though i would love to have him in the team i dont think we need him as much with the likes of our younger mids.

i think if we should be going for anyone it should be a mature aged, big and tall forward to help watts and give us a target

Boak is currently a very, very good player with every chance of becoming elite. You can't have too many of that type of player.

Blease and Tapscott haven't played a game. McKenzie is a hard worker but doesn't have the speed or class of Boak and Davey is very outside. There is a reason he's asking for $450k a year - because he's worth it. He uses the ball better than Moloney and Jones, and has 3 years more development than Scully, Trengove and Gysberts.

I think players who play interstate often get underrated because we don't see or hear of them as often. Geelong evidently rated him ahead of Joel Selwood when they drafted him, and while he has probably dropped below Selwood now, it's not by a long way.

He's a very good player, & when he was in the TAC cup he was reputed to have a great tank as well. Very interesting but I think i'd rather Dangerfield out of them.

Heard this morning on SEN that both Boak and Gray have refused to sign new contracts at Port and are looking around, we are one of the clubs that have supposedly expressed interest. It would appear that one of the more powerful clubs has indicated they don't have room in their salary cap, Boak wants $450k per year, so they have had to pass.

They mentioned that there was something about this in the HUN and The Age but I can't find any related articles.

Here is The Age article on Boak

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/port-star-in-high-demand-20100505-uaml.html

Another one from The Age

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/why-the-bombers-need-to-make-a-play-for-boak-20100505-uamm.html

It possibly couldnt happen with all the great players they have an would be limited with salary. But i can tell you now, being friends with travis. and went to school with him, he went for the blues as a kid. and is unterested in joining them. but you never know, id love to have boaky in our 22.

Boak for Cale Morton

Fool.

Morton ain't going nowhere. He is all class and will be perfect as a running defender / wing in the years to come with silky skills, a good mark and great decision making.

Gray is injury prone and exactly what we already have plenty of- medium sized mid/fwd. No doubt he is talented but wait till you see Melbourne's version next year- Luke Tapscott. Boak is a good midfielder but have a look at our list- we don't need him.

Bottom line, give up nothing. Petterd is going but that won't matter so much in the long term- we'll probably get a second or thrid round pick as compensation.

What's our biggest problem. A lack of big blokes. Use the first two trades on the best available big KPP and add that to Watts, Fitzpatrick, Gawn, Jamar, Martin, frawley, Warnock and others and we will have a complete team.

I see parallels with Morton and Goddard.

When Morton bulks up (when, not if) he will be a force.

When Goddard first started playing AFL he wouldn't get near a contest and even now he doesn't seem to relish body contact but it hasn't stopped him from becoming a very good player. I agree with you, I reckon Cale will be a similar type who will control the backline and every now and then go forward when needed.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
