Its great to see the development of our players and of course the Wins. I think all our Coaches deserve some reconigiton for the way the side is playing and the improvement. Ie: Our tackling and pressure !

The way we run the ball and take on the game at the moment is exciting and great to watch. In the past people questioned what our game plan was, well its been on show the last 3 weeks and we are getting better.

Im loving it !

The team is running when someone gets the ball-They now TRUST each other.

The collingwood game woke them up.

I think the Hawthorne game woke them up, and they realized what standard of intensity was needed.

It was a pleasure to watch them play tonight.

Their pressure, and effort was fantastic!

I agree I was at that game and it was one of the more disapointing games I have been too. I really believe the players were devistated with how they played since then they have played better every week and tonight game has shown they can match it with anyone, no doubt they will loose some games we now expect them too win but the biggest thing is we will win games we will not expect (IMO tonight) I just love watching them take the game on and run through the guts.

Point Taken but it was the Collingwood game when the Team actually realized that with that hard work they could do it, not just hope to do it.

We have a gameplan??

Of course we do, may not have always been evident until now.

Accountability - Our defensive work has improved out of sight. When we dont have the ball, our pressure on the opposition is excellent. Last year we were 15th for tackles and this year 1st(There abouts).

Just look at Jordy leading the competition in that area and team mates (Junior Mac) close behind.

Our players are pushing back hard into defence, not allowing our opponates to run free and hit easy targets.

When we get the ball, we are taking risks and running hard forward and spreading with the intention of going through the middle and appears been instructed to hit up and honor the guys leading into space.

And with no obivious Target (ie Jonathon Brown) we have a forward line which is small, fast and unpredicable.

Anyway thats my assumption watching games and listening to the experts.

I agree the coaching deserves immense credit for the way they play. It is a very risky style if their skills are down but since round one their skills have been spot on. With the accumulation of early draft picks we can expect this aspect to improve even further, so I think this style of play suits our list and when in full flight is almost impossible to stop. The other aspect of this is that individual responsibility for implementing individusl roles seems to have been embraced by every player. Just look at how commited Warnock and Fawley were yesterday, and how we have seen considerable improvement over the lst couple of games in Dunn, Bennel, Jones and Bruce. Each player is playing their part and it has become a fine team effort.

One aspect of this gameplan though is that it is high intenity to implement with relentless running and tackling, so it is very tiring on the individual players, particularly the young ones. There were times later in the game when you could see how exhausted Trengove was, and Scully was very quiet for the first three quarters, but then of course played a blinder in the last. This intensity on these guys will only increase as other sides realise how good they really are. Scully was heavily tagged yesterday, and took three quarters to shake it off, but of course quality eventually surfaces and he subsequently kicked one of the best goals of the season to seal the game for us in th last quarter.

I think as we make our way through the season we will need our strong reserve group as this will be a very tiring journey on the player group, which is sure to put considerable physical strain on them. But there is nothing like a winning culture and the competition for places if anything will only get more intense which is a marvelous thing. Having also seen the Casey game yesterday there are a couple of players putting their hands up big time for inclusion in the team, but with form like this in the seniors you would not expect any changes for next week. Can anyone for instance expect Bail to get his place back? Martin added balance to that side yesterday, so unfortunely I can't see any changes for the game against North. He is very unlucky, and that will not be lost on the others.

We could well win our next four, and with Port Power beating the Saints yesterday, it shows anyone is beatable.

This is the highest potential melbourne side I can remember and i've been following them for over 40 years, and yesterdays display was one of the best i have ever seen from a melbourne side. Anything is now possible!!!!

that was me poking fun at the fools who earlier claimed we didn't have a gameplan.

Would they recognize one if they saw it?

No, they just know it is working, that we are winning and it looks good.

Perhaps it was 'the game we had to have'.

We have a gameplan??

I can't believe there are still people who think we don't have a game plan. The same people who were calling for Bailey's head 4 weeks ago. Well back off! We just beat the fancied Lions with a brilliant game plan for God's sake. The team is now learning how to do it. There will be blips. Will you guys start harping again as soon as we lose another game? Bailey knows what he is doing. Isn't it obvious? Just enjoy it rather than looking for a whipping boy.

Sorry enforcer. i didn't see your later post. I'm so sick of the negative, carping Bailey bashers. They remind me of "Mr. Negative" Mark McClure.

Huge manlove for Scotty WEST- he has been a huge factor in our development of the mid field...Saturday night , the players did him proud. We killed them...

Hahaha that's ok mate, I was just about reply to yours until I saw this at the last second.

There has always been a gameplan, but when it is breaking down, for whatever reason, it will

look like an absolute mess.

This was us last year and in the first round this year.

It was only a matter of time...

...strange.

I think I've heard that somewhere before...

The coaching staff maybe?

That Josh Mahoney is a dud though, right?

Maybe we should fire him and bring in Allen Jakovich and Mark Jackson as forward coaches? :P

how you can give credit to West but not Wilbur is beyond me...

If the game style reflected any one player, it'd be hard to go past a Scotty West type wouldn't it? High possession, hard at it, tackles galore. Love that he's geared the kids to play this way.

And Mahoney's coaching stocks have gone from terrible, to rising quicker than ANYONE. To get a forward line that size to work effectively for a month? He deserves a lot of credit.

And then of course there's the defensive coaches. I can't find a hole in ours. Can anyone else?

I have never had a problem with our coaching and development department

Being a genius on the field doesnt necessarily make you one off the field

Some of the greatest coaches were in fact very ordinary players

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
