This is getting more annoying than the annual 'Bring Back Woewodein' threads.

these Jack Watts threads are the biggest snooze fests ever.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Charlie Watts has been a far more consistant performer over the years IMO...

Thats because its so easy to play 2 and 4

There's two reasons why JW is not being considered for senior selection.

1. His form with CS has not been good enough - fair enough.

2. Now for the real reason. Jack still has a sore back. How sore? I don't know.

Presumably not sore enough to keep him out of the CS.

I don't know about the sore back, but I think the club rightfully is taking a slow approach with Jack to ease him through the season.

I also heard an interview with CC Connolly on the weekend which explained a lot to me. He said Jack is still growing taller. This he said means the bones are soft.

I don't know about 'soft' bones, but, I DO KNOW that when a young man's frame is still growing, the bones end plates get sore from too much load & this is not good to load them up too much when growth is happening. It can do damage to the bones. I learnt about this stuff some years back, but am not still in touch with the latest medical theories, Re this situation.

I do know it makes bugger all difference for us this year if we finish 9th or 12th at the end of the year. So to me there is no rush for him to be put in any risk, or rushing him in for bragging rights is pointless to the extreme.

Anyway there are other players (forwards) we need to screen before the end of the season to see where they are in their careers & or development.

Does anyone know if Watts bleeds red and blue?

Kinda like Butcher right? Similar age, similar size. I guess Butcher has a shocking attitude and that's why he isn't playing as well.

Tom Lynch? Went in the same draft and can't even get a look in when Reiwoldt is out of action. Shocking attitude.

Oh, and McKernan. Can't forget him. Disgraceful the way he goes about things.

Or how about Scott Gumbleton? He was drafted two years before and he's barely played a game or produced anything. Terrible attitude that boy must have. Number 2 pick? What a waste!

Lachy Henderson? Top ten pick my ass! He's never done anything worth writing home about!

Damn, when you get right down to it, it looks like all of the forwards drafted in the last few years have been shockers. None of them have any work ethic, they all have attitude problems and there's not a scrap of talent in the bunch. What on earth is going through the heads of all those recruiters?

Charlie Swings SwampF like no other, there is a way to play them 2's & 4's. B)

If his bones are too soft then why are they playing him Casey?...why not just send him to Uni for 4 years until he stops growing...

Hehe yeah was kidding

Has a Jazz background

Nothing sweeter than some Bonham Triplets though :)

Ok back to the Jack Watts saga

I think this kinda sums up the whole Jack Watts position right now....Everybody please read it & then take notice. B)

If this isn't enough to shut up all the big footy terds, then I don't know what is.

Can this be the end of the discussion now...???

Beautifully said!

Please........someone be dumb enough to challenge this.......I need a good laugh!

I started the new post on Jack Watts.

Why?

Because the original post was so large.

It's interesting to interact with fellow Demon tragics in this forum.

Some become agitated, some digest the information and try to 'enhance' it.

Curious.

By the way, my original post, now wound up, was that Jack Watts has a sore back.

No big deal, but happens to be true.

I think he will be ready in time, Rewoldt took time to develop. Having said that, we saw him a fortnight ago for Casey, he moves well has a great turn of speed but not yet having a huge impact. In that game there were others that deserved a spot before Jack

Understandably Watts wil take time, but please do NOT compare him to Riewoldt who played played 22 games in his second, third and 25 in his fourth seasons of AFL. Compare JW to nobody, he is who he will become.

Hurley. Pick 5 2008.

My concern with Watts is that he may not have enough mongrel to ever be an elite key position forward. Merely an observation and I sincerely hope I'm wrong - perhaps we should second him to the Shinboners for a couple of years.

I agree that there's reasons for playing him as wing & HFF, but my point is that he's not likely to show his CHF attributes playing as a wingman. And while in some games he might make a reasonable fist of playing in a position that's so unfamiliar to him, he'll have others where he'll struggle just to get into it. Imagine, for argument's sake, trying to judge the value of Rivers or Warnock by playing them on a wing.

It's not a problem if the coaches have set him specific goals to achieve in his performance as a wingman, to let him know what he has to do to be considered for the Dees. It wouldn't help if they've just said "look, we don't want you to get crunched, we'll put you on the wing, and if you go well enough, we'll consider you for the seniors". The dilemma is: how well does he need to play on the wing for Casey in order to get picked for the Dees as ... what? Wingman? Or KPF?

I agree with Hannabal - perhaps he should have some games at Casey as KPF, though that would mean that Miller & Newton would have to play somewhere else. Since he's come to MFC, he's yet play a single game at any level at CHF, the position he was drafted to play.

he played at least a half against North Ballarat at either CHF or FF. His leading was fast, but marking ordinary. I agree tho it is time to give him a run in the ones, in akey position forward position. I suspect he will step up in the ones, and given our injury situation upforward at the moment I think the time is nigh.

That would be Hurley the All Australian Full Back right?

I'm not entirely sure it counts when he was drafted as a fullback and thrown forward, although I admit that that's getting a little technical. Also, aside from one game last year where he impressed the hell out of everyone, has he really done any more than Henderson or Gumbleton? Even if you rate him more highly than any of the others mentioned, that makes one tall forward who is playing regularly out of that year's crop, so I would contend that the point remains valid.

Soft bones ? Aargh. Why did I click on this thread ?

Jack Watts, now playing in Soft Bones- the movie about a teenage kid who broke down under the expectations of 20,000 nerdy internet heroes.

Or is that the wrong plot for a movie titled Soft Bones? I'm sure there is a line here about performance anxiety and going soft that I should stay well clear of...:o

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
