I dont think their is any doubt he will be on the outer when Jurrah and watts (and even Fitz) develop and get back from injury.

I would just love for the Juice to have just one "special" game, rather than just one speccy/car. This is before he becomes a trivia question.

IMO if Juice could ever manage to kick 5 goals or more for the Dees, he'll stay. His problem is that he can only play FF, unlike Martin, Watts, Jurrah and any other potential KPFs who could play elsewhere if they couldn't cut it as a KPF.

In the future, we'll need all our forwards to be at least capable of getting a swag of goals in a single game, otherwise we just won't have a good enough forward line to challenge for the flag. This is just about a standard requirement for a top 4 team. Juice needs to show that he's worth a place in that sort of forward line, not a wooden-spoon forward line.

This weekend is the best chance he's likely to get all year to kick his bag. IMO if the team plays well but he can't get 4, including assists, he's well & truly blown his best opportunity. I think it's his crunch game.

After this week, there may be other opportunities, but against teams like Brisbane and maybe North the following week. After then, Martin & Watts will be ready to come in. If he hasn't kicked some goals by then, he will have seen his chance pass by, unless he can force his way back by starring for Casey later in the season.

I would love for Juice to finally hit his straps and show us that he's worth his place in a top 4 forward line. But the chances aren't good.

I think he could have a good game. He played ok against Collingwood, better against the Crows and with a team like Richmond on such a low it is his chance to exploit. I suggest 4 goals will keep him in the side, but if he can supply and do all the other hadr stuff and not kick a goal, I would be happy to keep him in, in saying that he needs a bag in the next 2 rounds.

But I have a feeling the Tigers will come out the way the Demons came out against the Pies. The boys better be ready for a tough game. Hope the boys turn their goal kicking around 7-15 is pretty poor.

I have certainly been critical of Juice`s efforts over the past few years and I think we all are guilty of focussing on some of the poor errors that he continues to make. Dropped an absolute sitter in the last quarter straight in front 30 meters out on Sunday which I clearly remembered and I`m sure most of us do. I came home thinking he`d had another ordinary game. I was quite surprised after watching the replay that Newton actually had a crack. I think he realises his footy career may nearly be over and you can see some determination in him now that has been lacking for his whole career. There is also a little agro in him that I`ve never really noticed.

He didnt have a great game by any stretch but he`d be stiff to be dropped. Would love to see him towel up the Tiges.

Good luck too him if he kicks 2 or 6 he is only filling a gap once the likes of Jurrah, Watts and Morton are injury free he is gone hence him going from the main list too delisted too the Rookie list, he must know were he stands from this. Most likely his last year (for us) unless he really tears games apart which he will have too do from VFL and i havn't heard of him doing this thus far.

But like i say good luck i cheer for anyone who takes there place for the MFC no matter how average i think they are!

It seems that our 'gameplan' involves our forwards running towards goal, rather than leading towards the ball carrier. I reckon Newton's a lot more suited to being a 'typical' FF who leads from the goalsquare towards the ball carrier.

Indeed - I've pointed out more than once that I don't think our forward structure is helping Newton kick goals.

How times change Dfart!! By all reports players like Athol Webb were very capable, very smart and clever footballers. From reading Red Fox apparently Norm Smith was similar if not better.

If we had Jurrah fit and Watts has developed as a KPF do you think we would use them as decoys??

How much of a decoy to the opposition is a forward that does not kick goals, does not hold marks or his balance consistently??

I remember watching Athol Webb Rhino. Definitely capable: quick and elusive and averaged a couple of goals per game while being an excellent foil for the likes of 'Big' Bob Johnson and 'Tiger' Ridley. Small and slight for a KPF, about the size of a medium midfielder in today's game.

I cant seem to get this thought outta my head. But I think Juice may play a ripper this week. Juice has only played in few wins in his 20 odd games. One win he kicked 3-3 and another 2-4.

Is this week time for the juice to fly? Can he Cuthbertsoneque, rise and kick a bag?

I reckon I am going to get slammed for this thread. However he has played a couple of ok games, he is putting his body more on the line and lets face it, if your every going to kick a swag of goals it would be against the tigers.

So go the Juice, I hope for your sake you can take a couple of screamers and dominate this week. Because in a year or so, with Jurrah, Watts, Martin and Fitz, there might not be much room fo ya.

I really think that he is wasting our time. I would much prefer big Stef Martin up forward than Juice, pure fact being that there is potential in the kid.

Then again, he could kick a bag of 6 or 7... but only at Casey.

Unlike some here, I have no great desire to see Newton succeed. He's had long enough, and all I get from him is a bitter, resentful feeling that he is a lost cause. However, he has tried a bit in the last two weeks and would be very stiff to be dropped from a winning side against a team that might just make him look better than he is. He did little last match, but also did little wrong, bar a dropped mark or two. He showed a bit of aggro. I very much doubt that he will rise to the occasion, but he'll probably be given the chance, one more chance - in that sense, yes, it's Juice's week. There is simply no other tall-ish player to bring in this week, and no real urgency about doing so. I reckon this might be his last match, something I won't regret. Before the end of this season he and Miller will be extremely redundant.

Hope I eat humble pie after he gets the bag some are hoping for - another week of footballing life for him.

I have been watching Newton closely for about 5 years since he started in Sandy 2nds. I was excited once by hints of natural talent. But he has not shown the fundamental where with all to actual make it happen at AFL level. I d love Newton to make it...(Said that 5 years ago too). Still waiting but I dont think he will.

And he has delivered little to date.

no argument that what he has shown to date has been very little. He has however performed the role over the last few weeks that was expected of Brad Miller i.e, big body, presenting himself up forward. He is 22 years old and on his last chance. Lets hope he proves us all wrong. Colin Sylvia took a long time to arrive.

Nothing would please me more than seeing Juice kick a monster bag against the tiggies. But lets be honest, he has be sub par so far and is not dominating any of his opponents.

I will call this. If he is beaten by the tiggies defenders, he will have played his last game for the club. If he kicks a bag, he will earn himself a chance to resurrect his career.

I would love Juice to kick a big bag of goals. But I just get the feeling that Masta Bate and Mr Green are ready to rip a game apart in the forward line. On a side note, also get the sick feeling we might lose (great to be favourites again!!).

Last week I thought Juice did alright, he worked away.

My main thoughts were along the lines of 'no great impact but he was playing AFL, not VFL at an AFL fixture, and that is a step in the right direction for him'.

He may not get a game this week, which I think would be unfortunate because I agree that the game against Richmond could be a good one for him.

And let's not forget, we all have our expectations of the kids but if a few of the not-quite-right guys in the 22-24 range step up, that will be bonus strength that could make the difference between making a bunch of prelim finals or delivering a couple of premierships.
