Media Blowtorch Applied To Bailey...

One thing that has slowly gotten to me about the way we play has come out in the articles in these articles.

When talking about Green's 200th, Bailey spoke about the need to compete, chase and lay tackles that stick. What gets me is that these are the basic elements of the game that most people who play footy are aware of from a young age. It gets me that these simple concepts are not on show two years after Bailey started at the club.

Upon reflection it seems to me that Bailey's whole philosophy is wrong. Time and time again he talks about "competing" when in reality this is the fundamental purpose of sport and should not be demanded from players but expected.

I for one will watch with a keen interest the development of the Kangaroo's list under the guidance of Brad Scott a man who doesn't talk in circles and demands winning from his team not simply being competitive.

you're arguing semantics and seem to gave confused yourself.

Easy for Brad Scott, whose list is more advanced than ours.

I've not seen him win a game this season either.

Why are my posts being deleted E25?

Why are you so afraid of dissenting opinion?

Unless you have something constructive to add to the argument, as opposed to simply "Bailey sucks!", your post will be deleted.

You can have an opinion, pending you at least post something constructive to back it up. Basic fundamentals of society and online communities.

In saying that, we will pay 1-2 great quarters, before finally bowing down and losing to the Pies by 8-12 goals on the weekend.

If the side doesn't improve its performances that contract won't be worth the paper it's written on. Deal with it.

And where do you think we're suddenly going to come up with the money to pay him out a 2 yr contract exactly?

Is that you offering to pay it out Spirit of Barassi?

The media have to write something - and coach-bashing is the easiest way to fill up space.

The Committee knew that the media would start have having a crack at Bailey - which is precisely why they extended his contract.

Jimmy Stynes is a passionate believer in the power of positive thinking - and he would expect us supporters to rally against the negativism the media likes to portray

For goodness sake you negative posters - tell the media that Melbourne has a future.

At a certain point, a decision will have to be made weighing up the cost of paying him out (you would hope the contract includes a settlement clause)

versus the cost to our playing list, membership numbers, sponsorship commitments of keeping him on.

That time hasn't arrived yet but the media noise (particularly Gary Lyon's comments last night) would indicate that there are rumblings of discontent.

Well... despite.. all that seems to be going on..there really isnt much to comment upon at present.. we can simply summise were playing crap..and will do for some whiles.. and probably its going to be a long and painfull year. whats new ?

There is one slight difference to this year. Bailey has used up his free passes. he now has to actually show something on the "positive" side of the ledger. his role to make provisions for drafts is done.. His real job now is to win.. simple as that. Only the timetable can be debated...not the goal.

I must confess I am not nearly convinced now as i was last year or even more recently that a rush to sign has been prudent. I want the spotlight on him ( DB ) I want him to feel the seering gaze of 30000 odd members..I want him to know he is now 100% accountable for the performance of this team . Thats his JOB.. if he doesnt get us going then he fails....and if its patently obvious that he is failing I want the club to revisit the terms of endearment before the years out. If he CAN get us up and running then he is worthy. its pretty simple.

Hes shown us he had mastered the art of Losing games ( as that suited ) now he must show us that he can master the art of WINNING games...as thats all that matters. Its nor for mine enough to be simply 'more competitive' as thats a style not an outcome. The old adage is that any team crossing the line must do so with the ideal if not the idea that they can win...so must we. Excuses will flow that injuries and youth are crippling us...theyre just excuses. Other teams in other years have had inexperience and made fists of the fight... so must we. And if we dont... Then certainly one person ought to be looking for other employment

So keep that blowtorch fired up... we need it ...and how !!

Excellent post. Agree all the way!

It is Round 1 people! Round 1! It was a pathetic display but it was only 1 game- against a vengeful AFL force looking to take all their 2009 frustrations and display their 2010 intentions first up. Against us, the reigning wooden spooners. No excuse to not come to play but also a little justification into getting pulvarised..

I feel as supporters, even members we are a fickle bunch to say the LEAST. We expect everything, in most cases the expectations are unrealistic. Everyone loved Bailey last year and he is currently public enemy number 1 around here! Have some respect! Alot of Demon supporters want to have their cake and stuff it down their gobs simultaneously!

If nothing changes in a few weeks, sure, fire at will..I just feel right now we should be supporting Bails- I feel he's earnt this right at the very least. Patience.

TOo bad the blowtorch isnt being applied to the same senior plasyers who are letting Bailey down every week.

You know who they are.

Bailey has done nothing to warrant a blowtorching but of course he will get it.

Personally i'd line up Bruce, Miller, Dunn, Bate and Moloney and tell them if they don't improve dramatically over the next few weeks their time at the club is done.

Its the law of the media. Imagine the locusts if he was not contracted.

I would not line Dunn up. Waste of time. I have seen enough of him to know that in his 6th season he does not have the intensity and heart for the contest. Miller knows its his last year but is playing as No1 forward. He aint that. Bate will hopefully be better after his first real run after an interrupted pre season. Bruce, Beamer, Jones and Davey need a rocket.

Whilst you can call to account the efforts of individual players the performance and nature of execution of those efforts falls wholy at the feet of the coach.. thats what they do (Coaches..coach ) !! If certain players cant or wont do his bidding then he must change them by selection or direction. if he cant.. again..its his responsibility to prepare a team for competition. If he is failing in this then its more than warranted that the spotlight ne blowtorch be apllied.

Conversely if we do well..he deserves kudos.. .......................... if !!

The state of the Australian media is disgraceful and not just with sport. This carp that's been going on around here this week makes me think we have the media we deserve, by goldfish, for goldfish.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
