Wondering which of our new recruits we see as being regulars starting next year.

I think it was general opinion before the draft that both Scully and Trengove would be playing from Round 1... what about Tapscott now, who has been described as having a mature body that is ready to go?

The other thing to consider is who will be assisting Jamar in the ruck and whether Fitzpatrick goes forward or in the ruck.

With our whole list virtually done with MacDonald to go in the PSD and Newton and Meeson to go in the rookie draft here's my team for RND 1.

B: FRAWLEY, WARNOCK, BRUCE

HB: GRIMES, RIVERS, MORTON

C: DAVEY, JONES, SYLVIA

HF: TRENGOVE, BATE, PETTERD

F: JURRAH, WATTS, GREEN

FOLL: JAMAR, SCULLY, MOLONEY

IC: BENNELL, MCDONALD, MACDONALD, MARTIN

EMERG: WONAEAMIRRI, GARLAND, GYSBERTS

RESERVES

B: BELL, GARLAND, CHENEY

HB: STRAUSS, MCNAMARA, BAIL

C: BLEASE, GYSBERTS, DUNN

HF: TAPSCOTT, MILLER, JETTA

F: MARIC, FITZPATRICK, WONAEAMIRRI

FOLL: JOHNSON, MCKENZIE, BARTRAM

IC: HUGHES, HEALEY, SPENCER, NEWTON, MEESON(INJ), GAWN(INJ)

Who the f$#% is Fitzgerald ?

Why can't supporters get to know their players better ? It's either a wrong name or spelt incorrectly.

You wouldn't expect the two talls to play much next year, but the first 4 we will see. Thank the AFL for our early draw Scully and Trengove will get to start their AFL journey with what should be two matches at the MCG in front of 60,000+, add in the Richmond game in round 4 hopefully 50K+ what an experience.

I got his name wrong sue me. It was 2 in the morning. I know who he is. He looked pretty ordinary in the last game of the carnival.

Lock in the bolded players if they are fit and have uninterrupted preseasons.

If we are looking at Round 1 and Junior is fit he will be in the 18. We must dreaming if a young side with a lack of experience would have their experienced captain starting on the bench and not on the ground.

B: Frawley Warnock McDonald

Who knows...if this gets out around the club you could become responsible for his nickname becoming Ella.

I like the look of Tapscott.

I think he's a ready made player with an already impressive frame. From all reports has good kicking and contested marking ability. A good flanker.

In your Team 45HG I'd go with that but exchange Petterd with Tapscott on the Bench.

Sorry Ricky.

Geez, a lot of boys need to prove themselves to get a game now! What a sight! :-)

Gippy

Competition for spots has certainly hotted up since the mid 00's!!

B: Frawley Warnock McDonald

HB: MacDonald Garland Bruce

C: Morton Moloney Trengove

HF: Tapscott Watts Sylvia

F: Wonaeramirri Jurrah Green

Found this very difficult. Alot of competition.

PS. I've put Garland in cotton wool. ;)

Calm down buddy

The below team is the team that is most likely the one to line up, given that I think players like Garland and Wonaeamirri will be out with an injury etc..

FB: Grimes Frawley Rivers

HB: Davey Martin Bruce

C: Green Moloney Morton

HF: Jurrah Miller Sylvia

FF: Trengove Bate Petterd

Foll: Jamar, McDonald, Jones

Int: P.Johnson, Watts, Scully, J.Macdonald

Isn't it great assuming everyone is fully fit that there's now some competition up for spots. Looking over most of the teams Neville Jetta isn't in any of them. This is a kid who played 10 pretty handy games for a first year player last season, kids like him are only going to get better and that's where our improvement will come. Not only have we recruited some players who could become top shelf but we've alose managed to get our hands on some great depth.

The thought of Tapscott and Sylvia on the half forward flanks slotting them from 55 is already making me drool.

Assuming all are fit and ready:

FB: Frawley Warnock McDonald

HB: Grimes Rivers Garland

C: Morton Moloney Davey

HF: Sylvia Bate Wonaeamirri

FF: Watts Jurrah Green

Foll: Jamar Jones Trengove

Int: Martin Scully Petterd Bruce

Emerency: Bennell Jetta MacDonald

Observation: Some of the reserves sides picked look stronger than a few of our teams in the 80's & 90's.

Question: If we still had Brock plus all of our current list - would he get a game?

I think Trengove will get a game, playing senior games in SA, he should be close to being ready for the AFL.

I hope they play a lot of the young kids in the NAB cup... or whatever it is called!!

If all are fit this would be my line up

McDonald Frawley Warnock

Garland Rivers Grimes

Morton Jones Davey

Green Bate Sylvia

Martin Watts Jurrah

Jamar Moloney Bruce

Scully Trengove Aussie MacDonald

Well, there you go Neita, I couldn't fit Jetta, Maric or Wonaeamirri in the side. Probably should have a small forward in the 22. I had Davey in the forward pocket.

It goes to show, as you say, how hot it will be for spots. Particularly if the majority are injury free, up and about. Good problem to have for the FD. It will also help determine the playing list going forward in terms of strengthening the list, if all are in fact on the park, so to speak.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
