Even Leuenberger is fairly decent but has so far not shown quite enough for a pick 4 in my view.

Well of course he hasn't. The poor bloke has been shot down with injuries that have disallowed him to be able to "show enough."

The problem is that Melbourne is very light on for ruckmen. We have only one on our primary list at the moment and that is Mark Jamar, two if you count PJ but I still regard him as a forward who can fill in as a second stringer in the ruck but can't match it with the best. Stef Martin is very much a tall defender who can pinch hit in the ruck while Jake Spencer is still on the rookie list. If someone takes Meesen in the draft we will be left vulnerable. He showed great promise in the few games he played with us so it's no surprise that some clubs are sniffing around.

We're light at the moment, although if we don't pick one up in this year's draft, we may look at trading for a ruckman in the next few years to improve our flag hopes. That's what's been done by both Collingwood and Geelong in recent years.

Although I was initially keen on giving him one more chance, i've gone completely cold on him. Plus a rookie pick would be great with some rough diamonds out there sure to slip

Given the relative scarcity of talls there may indeed be some legs to the idea that a club who is still scratching around in the 70's ( picks ) might think him worth a chance.

If Meesen were taken late in the draft or as one of GC17's 5 priority picks you would have another rookie pick. If we don't draft another ruckman I would prefer to keep him for the year as insurance.

Id rather Meesen than Juice also. even if we were to get Gawn he is an unlikely starter ( even on pine ) until proabbaly mid year. Conditioning, coaching...and games in the twos..leading into his debut.. Leaves Jamar and Spencer with possibly Martin pinch hitting.. If we dont have Meesen. Still might be this sort of attraction that has the Hawks interested.

They get paid minimum at new club and we make up this years contract difference.

Sounds like a fair deal. We get a kid who we can take a chance on at the minimum price, and we had to pay out Meesen anyway.
