Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We are focusing on the draft 2009. In a longer term view, what are we doing for 2010? Knowing that GC17 get all of the juicy picks, a few questions:

Who will we have on our list that we can TRADE to GC17 for early picks

Who is out of contract that will be vulnerable to be picked up by them?

Just because the draft is skewed, doesn't mean that we wont be able to get low picks if we trade for them. I can imagine GC17 wanting both the newbies from the draft, and a bit of talent to get them started.

Any thoughts?

GC i imagine will be aiming to keep at least 4 of the top 5 picks in 2010. Pick 6 is available to the team who comes bottom however.

I would be happy if we gave up Petterd for anything we receive. Dont see Petterd as having much upside unfortunately...

I wasn't much of a Ricky fan at the start of the year apart from his courageous nature however I think we unearthed a very smart small forward who uses his body extremely well and is a good kick. He has the ability to kick a couple of goals a game and whilst not a gun, he has become very handy. His game against Port this year was fantastic. I say keep him and send Miller to them.

Do not underestimate Petterd.

He is/will be well worth holding on to.

Mate I would love you to prove me wrong. But will the GC accept miller...what bargaining power do they have? I'am worried that we should not [censored] off the AFL in whatever dealings we do with GC as we are not yet self-supporting.

i'd chuck in 20 bucks to the club that takes miller off our hands! cant wait to see him gone

Grant.

In regard to the AFL.

The smart thing to do is not to let them know that

you have outsmarted them.

I'll question the need. We are building a team. we have actually quite a lot of the components already and are about to top up. These players will galvanise into I think a fairly decent outfit.. and still some seem to want to constantly tinker.. to "collect' picks as though that in itself is teh name of thegame..Its not. Playing good footy with good players is. You get no where if you dont at some stage actually aplly friction to theroad. if you keep the wheels constantly spinning all you do is burn rubber.

its time to focus on teh results from this emerging group as opposed to dismatling and reconfiguring ad nauseum.

The goal..the real game is playing...NOT pretending.

We will be able to getthrough these early GCyears just fine.

if we are to trade Miller it has to be this year for mine, cant see him in my best 22, if not getting a regular game will be even harder next year

see i dont get why there is this mentality often shown to ricky, yet people go week at the knees for maric, who albeit had school last year but has shown nothing.

ricky has plenty of upside. midsized forward or defender, he has strong hands, good kicking and is courageous as all hell. in a robert murphy role in a good team he could be a very good player.

Ricky is a future gun, although I have heard whispers earlier in the year that he has his eyes set on GC17. At the time I found this very hard to believe but as it stands seeing as he hasn't signed a contract extension pass 2010, the speculation is warranted

Probably because many don't agree that Petterd's a good kick and has plenty of upside.

Maric hasn't shown much but he's also younger than Petterd. The Champion Data stats indicate he's a very good kick.

i was using him as an example primarily but nonetheless. i still think petterd has equal upside.

and lets not forget that petterd had a significant injury so although being in the system for 3 years, it is much less than that. im pretty happy with where ricky is headed. he will be a big beneficiary of the experimentation this year as he had the opportunity to develop his game in its entirety.

and as for chamption data stats - if you only get 6 kicks a game, it isn't hard to have decent efficiency.

YEah 12 months ago Butcher was Pick1 or at the very least 2, so careful looking into that crystal ball of yours - 12 months is along time for 16/17 year olds

Nothing wrong with doing the homework. Many things will change between now & then but the learning that we will go through is beneficial.

Know the players like a golfer knows all his clubs, not just the ones in his buggy that particular day.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
