Cale Morton – Cale continued to develop. Last year, he predominantly played as a wingman, but this season he played as a lead-up forward – kicking three goals against Geelong – and also played down back on the likes of Adam Goodes. He really worked on the defensive side of his game and he showed he is really durable. Cale played 20 games last year and 21 this year. as to Cale...much improved.. Seems to be developing stature. I think he really undrstands his role now. Look forward to his 2010 onwards

A future star. No doubt about it. The plan is for him to add some much needed strength and weight this off season which will see him become even more versatile. A Bluey in 2010? Only Sylvia has more momentum heading into next season.

An excellent development year for Cale, adding considerable versatility to his repertoire. Not sure that he will ever have the physique to be a regular KPP, but he can play just about anywhere else. Looks to have a great future as he matures physically and gains experience and confidence at the top level.

Pretty much as mentioned. Runs all day, can play most positions and will be able to play more as he gets stronger. A bloody good pick up for the MFC.

i suppose everyone has watched him, he deserves his spot in the team, we know he is good enough to warrant the hype and most people believe it fait accompli that he will be a quality player, whether elite or just a grade most people believe he is/will get there.

who thinks he will be an elite star? who thinks he will just be a good solid ball magnet?

we know he can kick it, but hasn't used his disposal as well as he could thus far at afl level. he has also shown some signs of avoiding the hard stuff. will the hard stuff come as his body gets stronger and he puts on weight and gains confidence? does the gaining of confidence mean that his disposal improves?

if the above scenario occurs he could well be elite as soon as he puts on a bit of weight, if not he will probably just be a very good player who gets lots of it.

it just appears to me that anyone who finds the ball as easily and naturally and as often as morton has something special about him, and that that something special should take him to elite level one day.

Would love for him to settle as a KP forward in the future, but he is of better value to us as a "plug-a-hole" player, who can play anywhere.

His best attribute is his cool head under pressure. Always looks to have plenty of time in tight situations, like TJ, only without the Jesus beard.

Will be a gun, but really really needs to put on 5-6kgs.

So far Cale is the best out of his draft year, and will get better. Great pick up.

Can see him rotating from wing to CHF with Watts and Jurrah, when he put on weight.

not sure if he has stamped himself the best in a pretty good draft with Dangerfield, Rioli, Kreuzer and Cotchin, but he is up there, thats for sure.

This is one guy I can see going forward in a few years and being hard to match up on. defensively he has developed well and is a natural wingman as this stage.

I think his year was exceptional considering he was given different tasks throughout and still ticked a couple more boxes.

He needs size now, and although he will never be huge, that will come soon enough.

Well we could probably use either, honestly.

I take a lot of heart from other players who were skinny when they started, and had humble beginnings in their first four-six years but were persevered with. Think someone like Montagna who this year was a star of the comp. I don't think it's fair to put the weight of expectation on Morton and suggest he'll be in Sheahan's top 10, but he's off to an extremely peasing start, isn't he?

I will say though that I think he's a superb outside player. But as with many outside players, he'll rely on the Scully's and Jones' to burrow in and extract for him on many occassions.

I think mostly what will govern how highly we and the football world rate him will be his accuracy by foot.

He needs 10kgs of muscle. Needs it so he can start winning more of his own ball; holding his ground in one-on-ones; and to assert himself around the ground and on the game. He's going to be a good player, but I am not one who thinks that he is the next elite midfielder. He'll be good, but he won't be our best player. However I do seem to often forget that he's only had two seasons of football. He'll have his 100 games up at the age of 22. Guess I'm underselling him a bit. Could be a star. Will be an essential part of our finals team in the middle stages of the next decade regardless of how good he gets.

Cale could become one of the hardest matchups in the AFL if he gets some size about him and retains his current mobility and endurance. Someone have him call Tingay and find out what "vitamins" he took to become big and strong <_< Cale really improved his work in traffic over the second half of the year.

The thing I really liked about Cale last year was that oft taken out of context pushy-shovey bit he had with Lade? early in the year. I don't care in the least that non Dees think it was a giggle fest but I loved the way he left that PA goon arguing with himself while Cale sprinted off to gather a touch. Anybody can get sucked into a pissing contest but it takes a smart footballer to know when it is more important to worry about the ball. I think we have drafted very, very well with this kid.

Has that awesome ability to find the ball and be in a good position to be fed it.

Will be interesting to see who will turn out to be dux of 2007:
