Clint Bartram – 'Barty' finished the season off really well. His last six games were in defence and he did some really good jobs for the team. He showed some improvement in his game – particularly his kicking and decision-making. We know he is a competitor and he's very quick. He has good endurance and can play on different types of players - Sean Wellman on melbournefc.com.au

I love Barts.

Seems like an absolute top bloke and has had a rotten year with luck. Had a fantastic debut season in '06 and was cruelled to miss out on playing finals.

Unfortunately, he will find it very difficult to maintain his spot.

All the best to Clint, the kind of goer you love to have at your club and wish all players could put in to the same extent.

Agree - "goer" he certainly is. Especially liked it that Bartram, like Dunn, played so much better when they came back to the team after being dropped to the Scorps for a few matches. Showed us that for both of them there might be a lot more upside to come. Top teams have reliable taggers who can nullify the opposition's best while giving their team some drive also, and we need at least two players with that ability - Bartram is right up there for that role, and his value to the team will increase hugely if he can pull it off. If not, then he'll be competing with a number of hard-at-it smaller players and his place in the team will be more vulnerable.

Pretty much echoing the comments made by most others - love his endeavour, seems to have a top attitude, and is a handy type of player to have at a club... But, I think he could certainly be a chance for a delisting or a trade (would anyone trade anything of any value for him? I really have no idea), and if he does stay, I think he will find it hard to play 15+ games next season, excluding a horrid injury count again. But fair play to you Clint, you give your all. And a tough year off the field with your dad dying too.

His skills really let him down, which makes it tough. Certainly a potential delist.

I'm surprised the Saints have shown interest, but with pretty average draft picks in a shallow pool they might be keen to pick up some 'fringe' players who they feel have untapped potential.

Those who want to keep him need to figure out who of guys like Buckley, Miller and Cheney they're happy to let go of instead.

When Barty burst on the scene i was mightily impressed with this kid.. ..wheres it gone ?? Very borderline as a retainer for mine.

caveat... Hes had a shocker of a year in many respeccts and on that basis I'll give him some largese but he will probably be kept if not traded and needs to do a mighty preseason and come out scalp taking.

Potentially he has the prospect ( and potential ) of taking over a Junior type role. He will need to become better poised and more of a clinical thinker and if so will be more than handy.

He'll be kep in this light unless really needed as part of some convoluted deal to secure a gun.

Will survive the cut at whose expense?

I severely doubt this. We still need to lose a few.

I'm surprised by these rumours that he's wanted by other clubs, but if he is, he'll end up at one of them.

I don't think you can count rookie-listed players in this equation...

They are places - places on the Rookie List.

You can't draft players out of the National Draft straight onto the Rookie list.

not so fast..if Valenti was to remain he goes on the senior list... ..and we only have so many places for rookies etc. Not all cut and dried as some would have it

That just means we have to cut ANOTHER player on the Senior List to make room for him.

It does not mean there is an extra spot.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval.     With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
