I must admit the Demons were the joke of the competition from about round 3 2007 until some point a couple of months after our great man Jimmy took over the club. We were embarrassing and pathetic both on and off the field. Once Jimmy took over and changed the board and the CEO the club seemed to be back on track both on and off the field. Jimmy you have saved our club, thankyou.

So who has taken our title? There seems to be several contenders.

Here are the nominations.

Port Adelaide: A club in turmoil. No supporter base to talk of........... the few supporters speaks no English and have no coin. A club that just could not turn up to make the finals, which is all well as their supporters can't afford finals tickets anyway. Terrible losses to bottom teams Richmond and Melbourne cost them a finals berth. Yet this club decided to re-sign its coach who seems to be fighting with absolutly everyone including his players. His best player then simply walks. PA is also on financial life support from the AFL. Yes a nomination is worthy.

Richmond: a simple choice for a nomination. Pathetic is a word that is simply not strong enough to describe this rif raf of an organisation. The word "team" by definition can't be used when describing the tigers. The disgracefull tigers have appeared just twice in finals in 27 years, they signed and then carried a terrible coach who made all the wrong decisions when recruiting, did not have the guts to let the team bottom out, continiously came 9th and then convinced himself that they were a premiership threat and took a 31yo drug addicted Cousins who turned out to be their best player for the 2009 season. Seriously this does not say much for the rest of the list. Richmond then compounded all of this by beating Melbourne after the siren who were tanking like no other team in the history of the competition. Ironically this win cost them the number one draft pick and Richmond supporter Tom Scully. Richmond is truly a joke and is also on AFL life support. I hold no hope of finals for this ridiculas, joke of a club pre 2016 and thats assuming everything goes right for the tigers from this point forward.

Fremantle: who can go past this team when talking about mediocrity. The only "new" team in the competition to stuff up the AFL bought premiership which comes as part of the package from the AFL when buying a AFL club licence. Two finals appearances with one win in their 15 year history is a pathetic return considering their concessions. This club seems to always be in the headlines for the wrong reasons and has failed to take its opportunities. Unlike its cross town rivals Freo seem destined to be waiting for a premiership for a long, long time.

North Melbourne: A nomination simply for failing to take its best option and move to the Gold Coast where they would have become very strong, extremly successful and mega rich. Instead they remain on AFL life support with next to no support. With a very low, non affluent supporter base its hard to understand how they will survive. Norths poor decison to stay in Melbourne may well end up costing it the ultimate price.............. extinction. A nomination for not waking up and smelling the coffee..... A nomination for failing to take its opportunity.

Melbourne: As carrying over "joke award winner" and wooden spoon winner, a nomination is automatic, however, recent on and off field performances and improving list suggests it no longer holds the title. Despite still being on AFL life support it seems the club will soon be healthy enough to stand on its own.

Richmond. They are going no where and have a very average list. I think what we saw from them in that infamous loss after the siren match indicates how rubbish they really are.

Freo , no wonder they have an anchor on their jumpers. They are anchored down the bottom, even Pav and Sandy cant help them

Am I right in saying only one team has only won one final in 14 years and that is Freo?

An invented team with its only history mired in mediocrity and horrible trading.

- North shouoldn't even be on the list, they may have had financial problems, but everything else they do is as a proud club.

- Freo are, on the whole, the biggest joke on-field. And their culture is stunted. But their finances, I believe, and facilities are among the best going round. They don't have membership issues either, I think. Add a third side to W.A. and you might find things are a little different. Not that it looks like happening.

- Port belong on the list. They have a whole lot of talent in their list and have underachieved more, perhaps, than anyone this year. Off field they are headed for some short term disaster. Next season will show what they're made of though. Could be hell to pay.

- Richmond and us are still fighting it out, I reckon, with the Toigs ahead mostly because they look like they're about to go through a rebuild during the worst possible time for a rebuild. We're looking encouraging, but we still have such a long way to go.

Richmond because I don't see them getting any better, they never went into rebuilding mode and kept finishing in 9th place which is essentially moving backwards. The personnel coming into the side seem sub-par either as a result of not getting overly great picks or just pure blunders from the recruitment staff. Fremantle are rebuilding and some of the kids in their side right now will be among the best in the game in a few years time. Melbourne are obviously rebuilding. The other teams on the poll just had a bad year.

Sure we might be coming, but people in glass houses...

Sure I am bias, I love the MFC................ but I am also a massive critic and have not held back saying how pathetic we have been during long periods of my life.

I truely beleive we have now turned the corner. A new board which has delivered in all ways, a new ruthless attitude by our FD, a new training base and home in a population growth area, an improved relationship with the AFL, a move back inside the MCC, improved lobying with the state governement and Melbourne council, and most importantly a new, young, exciting list has given me faith and great optimism. We are no longer the laughing stock of the comp, not everyone knows this yet but they will by mid season next year and this makes me feel good.

Richmond have a decent number of members and are doing well with there $. On field they are not the worst team atm but for years have offered nothing..and i means yearss. The Dees have been very very poor on field and off field for quite some time. Nort Melbourne worry me off field more then any other club. They maybe building some new facilities but I wonder how long they are going to stay around.

I'm inclined to say Port Adelaide. While Richmond is a mess, they at least are taking steps to fix things with a new coach and player culling. At Port they have the same coach who seems to have presided over their descent into farce and rather than delisting their poor players they are having their quality players desert. Added to that is their low membership and financial difficulties. I think the fix will take longer for them than for Richmond.

Port Adelaide for me.They should merge with Adelaide! (Wayne Jackson please take note!)

Melbourne are full of potential, but we have proved nothing yet. Too early to get cocky boys.

I would hate to barrack for Richmond right now more than any other club. While there are other clubs (North and Sydney come to mind) who I think will have trouble rebuilding in the next few years, I cant even imagine how Richmond are going to meaningfully improve, and I wouldn't say that about any other side. They're going to go backwards in the next few years with a spate of retirements, and make no mistake, they're already atrocious. I really feel for Hardwick; he's really come into the job at the worst conceivable time. At least Bailey got given a blank canvas, and was allowed to rebuild right from the get-go- for Richmond, it'll be another two years before they even get an uncompromised draft, at which point they'll probably need yet another few years to put together a core group of players seriously capable of challenging for a flag one day.

I dont think Richmonds list is as bad as people think. They have to get rid of a number of older and NQR players and that process will be finished by next year but they have reasonable core of players to deal with. Despite their rotten culture, they still have a huge suporter base.

Despite some insipid performances on the east coast in recent years, a terrible club song they do have a big supporter base, highly profitable and have two definite stars in Pavlich and Sandilands. They have an excellent squad of young players lead by Palmer and Hill that they can build on. I think there coach is an issue.

What do you mean "joke of a club"?

Was melb or freo a joke in 2006 when playing eachother in the semi-finals. I remember everyone saying, watch out for the dees in 07, they're probably top 4.

Was Port a joke when they were top of the ladder for 3 seasons in a row during 2002-04, won a grandfinal in 04 and avoided bottoming out by attending a grandfinal in 2007.

I personally believe Richmond is the most poorly run club (hands down)

Freo will always be a joke IMO. Jumper looks like someone threw up a cadbury chocolate wrapper on a putting green.

That, and their logo is an anchor, a bad omen in sport having your logo symbolically weigh you down!

If we lose Davey I know who will be the biggest joke of a club.

the tiger have always been the joke, not the dees, they have had 8 years of rebuilding and they are still rebuilding since 2001,they have had 8 years out of the finals,they could have had buddy and pav in there side they picked other hacks instead.
